Totally agree, but this was also on point that "NC" over the ear headphones are getting really cheap in quality of late. Millitary ear defenders are designed to amplify sounds such as talking while cancelling noise such as gunfire. If you're just in an aircraft you're probably best trying the QC25's. Yeah... I really hope Linus got paid for this BS video. He even try the lie that Bose's first noise cancelling headset was the first one ever, as if this wasn't 80s tech.
I got the QC15 and I just recently replaced the ear cups because I didn’t know that was possible when they started to open 3 years. Very happy with those headphones still to this day. Also in looking for those ear cup replacements I found a mod that can turn them into Bluetooth as well so I got that and that also works great! Will hopefully be using for the next decade to come as well.
I’ve had my Bose QC-15 headphones for 10 years. They still work great. The only thing I have had to change out are the ear pads and that is easy to swap out. I have also had a Bose clock radio for the past 20 years that still works great.
Just wanted to say love your content, and also thanks for the Skillshare 2 months. I’m hoping to turn my life around once and for all and this will help!
My Bose 25's are still working after many years, but had too renew the ear pads. The Bluetooth version Bose 35 /2 £325 + tried them on at an airport store and are they are impressive however there is a converter for the 25's to Bluetooth but the battery only lasts 5 hrs for about £70-£80
could you do a video on headphones in these 4 aspects 1. for indoors where sound quality is paramount 2. for sports and gym 3. for travelling where noise isolation in important 4.in ears
I bought the QC 35 II's a few months ago and while I don't use them regularly, I love them and the amount of sound eliminating it does from the outside is nothing short of amazing.
The problem with anything "better" than QC25 is that Bose made the battery non-replaceable and pretty tiny and short-lived as a bonus. That's why I won't get anything better than QC25 because I intend to use the headphones for longer than the battery lasts. Plus, the replacement time for the AAA cell is seconds compared to charging time of an integrated battery. And if you use AAA Li-ion cells (1.5V) you don't need to purchase any batteries when you can re-charge your cells instead.
Hi there! 3 years using my 1 pair of QC25s here. They’ve been durable, dropped many times on concrete (while in the case mind you), traveled across the world in cars, planes, buses, in coffee shops on an almost daily basis since the beginning. They were $300 when I got them and $180 is a steal. They do the job, they’re comfy, sound great, but please oh please make sure you have an extra battery on hand or you will be disappointed. These (imo) only ring true in good audio quality when the noise cancelling is on. That must be a small % of duds because mine have been rock solid and I am convinced that the quiet comforts are worth every penny
I've had my Bose QC 25s for years back when they were the newest edition. I still use them daily for several hours a day at work and they are still great. I do have to replace the ear pads about twice a year though since they break down.
I ordered the Bose QC35 back in 6/2016 and they still work just as good as they did on day 1. I use them at my local public library where there are groups of noisy kids and people on their cell phones and even the occasional band playing music for the kids. I also use them on the NY subway where I can now fall asleep and miss my stop. They do not cancel all sound but they cancel enough sound that I do not need to blast the music.
I've had my QC25 in well over a year and they are still as good as when they were new. it's all about the way you treat your stuff. Same thing with the apple chargers breaking after a year or so, I had mine for like two or three years before it got messed up..
As a private pilot: active noise cancellation is a gift from God himself. Radio communications are easy to hear, my head doesn’t hurt, and my flight headset has an aux jack for listening to music while flying as well.
3 years after this video and 8 years since my first qc25, it’s still looks and works as intended when bought! Except for the cushions obviously that you may have to change every 2 or 3 years! I have purchased since then the qc35 and nc700 and still in love, same ANC quality and sound quality as brand new! The newer are just better at having Bluetooth, and EQ for the nc700! I still use them for monitoring while filming or DJing! Thanks for that throwback (watching in July 2022)
Have been a heavy user of my QC25s since I bought them back in 2015. Aside from having to replace the ear foam pieces once, they have not given me any trouble.
I had to repair my QC 25 because one of the hinges broke. I managed fixing it by using a small carbon rod and locking it in with some sugru silicone. They are bulletproof now :D
Thanks for the info, i did not know the price. Apple marketing is really anti consumer .. i heard too they will not include the fast charging brick for their new phone.. This really blow my mind..
you had them for 4 years and are not telling people about their ear cushions falling apart after 1-2 years, even in moderate usage, which bose charges you 35-50$ to replace? I like them, but discount-store quality on 200$+ headphones (i have some that do NOT fall apart, even after 5 years, btw) is a no-go. I would not recommend them to anyone, unless they feel comfy with a "subscription". Heck, Bose even counts them as "wear and tear" parts and don't cover them under warranty, which mine are still in.
I bought the Bose QC 35ii when they were on sale. I've wanted these headphones since the first time I tried the demo version on at the airport. So I started saving money since then. I finally was able to buy them and I'm so happy I got them! For someone who has ADD, I find it extremely difficult to concentrate when I hear sounds around me. Also, because I wear glasses, the Sony headphones hurt my head after a while. I've got no issues with the Bose headphones though! Love them!
Confusing in that Linus did not really recommend some REAL alternatives to the Bose QC25. Over the ears that work well and are comfortable yet...might have better build quality. As enjoyable as this episode was...I feel let down. Help me Obewan-Techtip, you are our only hope. Yes, I did have some cheese with my whine.
Well, the thing is that that's the point of this entire series. It just serves to rationalise why the hell [this product] is at the top of its category on Amazon. That's pretty much it. The Bose QC25s happen to just be great all around, so just say it's great and move on. There's no debate to be had there, since this isn't a "why should you buy this" but just a "why people are buying this". I'll agree it's very poor that they just accepted as is (even going as far as to say "best in category" when many have said Sony's new offers are a lot better), but it's clear they fulfilled what they wanted to with this video and anything more would've just been extra credit.
My personal recommendation is the wireless variant of bose. They have the option to attach a cable are just as good in sound quality and noise canceling and are( in my case) just as good as day 1 after about 1,5 years
I have both Bose and Sony. The only advantage of Bose over the Sony is that it’s cooler on the ears on long usages. Other than that, Sony wins all the way.
I have the upgraded version of these (QC35) and as a college student, it is one of the best investments I have ever made. They help me study at home but also in a "quiet" library to make it near silent and are excellent when ever I travel on vacation. The QC25 are a steal for $150ish since the QC35 are over double the price at about $300
....I don't consider myself as a very smart asian but I think mechanical engineering is one of those majors that you really need to study to even get a C. Failure rate in these class are about 40-50% easily. This is my forth year of college but I'm technically a junior after transferring and have seen my fair share of students get utterly destroyed in these classes. Lastly, when you are stuck in school for 14 hours (like me) with a break of 4 hours between two classes, you might as well study and get shit done
I've had mine for 3+years. I use them daily and have recently purchased AirMod QC25 Bluetooth adapter so now mine are wireless. Still using the original ear cup cushions. I wipe them with a damp cloth at the end of the day. No problems with quality at all
I have a pair of the Cowin E7 headphones that I use at work a lot. Even though they have a lot of plastic and feel kinda cheep but sound decent, last a long time and take a beating while I'm wrenching on heavy equipment.
This video didnt go into the specifics at all. You just said these headphones sell well, they have 3 bad reviews, and started giving us in video ads some more... Disappointed im this video. Please go back to giving more detailed information.
Tired of hearing this line repeated. I've had everything from AKG's more expensive offerings to the Bose QC25s and I honestly couldn't care which of them I was listening on; normal people don't listen to music scrutinising every note for accuracy, they simply listen to the music with whatever they have, passively enjoying it. Also, it can be argued that there isn't an objectively 'better' sound signature. You might say that the more accurate a speaker is the better it is, but for most people they pick a set that sounds good to them. That's what matters!
@Gus Johnson so you're a sound engineer at apple or just an internet fanboy showing off his live for a company who doesn't care about you. Probably the second.
I think this video was meant to be a blanket of the noise canceling lines, you'd be looking for a video more set on a single one of these products, going into specs. I completely agree, this felt lacking, but i think I see what they were going for
I own the Bose QC35 (first gen) headphones. I can safely say that these headphones are my best audio-purchase! I travel a lot with the bus (2 hours to and from school), the noise of the bus is almost completely blocked. If I compare the ambient noise with the earpods from Apple and the QC35, the QC35's completely obliterate the earpods (obviously). But I have to say when you disable the noisecancelling feature, the audio that the headphone produces isn't quite good. It just excells when combined with the noisecancelling feature. I own these headphones for one and a half years now, I still have no problems with it.
I tried the QC35. Even with noise cancelling on, they sound worse than some $100 Sennheisers. I have returned every Bose product I bought, they're all garbage. They sound like what I'd expect from something for $20. I have Skullcandy Bluetooth in ear headphones that sound comparable for $50 and block sound nearly as well...without batteries or that weird noise cancelling pressure.
@@aluisious yeah QC is ok if you really aren't picky about the sound of your music and you need noise canceling . If you listen to any kind of rock or electronic music BOSE is way too flat and has 0 punch
Sorry Linus, but your research is a little bit 2016 on this... As of last year, Sony's WH-1000XM2 had caught up with the Bose QC25/35. But while it's not politically correct to say so, the real benefit of noise cancelling on an airplane is not to wipe out the white noise, but to silence other people and their children. In this respect, while Sony doesn't really say it directly, they made a MUCH better "baby cancelling" headset than Bose did. Fast forward to today, and just last week Sony announced an update to their headphones that make them 4x better at cancelling out people, improved the ergonomics, and beefed up the strength of the plastics but did all that while keeping the price the same. I haven't tried the newest version yet, but based on the strength of last years WH-1000XM2, the XM3 will be a must buy for this holiday shopping season. It would be great if you could get a pair of the XM3 and QC35 headphones in for a proper test, including not just airplane and white noise, but cancelling out crying babies and human voices as well. The latter is something that neither Bose or Sony is brave enough to document, so you'd be doing all us business travellers a service if you reported on that! After all, as you're fond of saying, "it would be crazy to preorder something like this without at least seeing a few actual reviews and tests of the device". Here's the link the new XM3 product page: www.sony.com.sg/electronics/headband-headphones/wh-1000xm3
Wow... I must be the exception. I got my QC25 about 4 years now. The only issue I had was cushion breaking which I have replaced easily with replacement kit. I have gone thru over 30 "gaming" headset and none of them last. I have a big head. The type of head that you need to adjust your baseball cap to the last pin. Every time I put on the headphones, I gradually bend the headband to a point where it snaps. Bose QC25 has never done that. Plus the comfort level on this headphones is astounding. It may not makes sense to you but it actually feels like nothing on my head most of the time. I sit very near a portable AC. QC25 does an excellent job of filtering that sound. Ever since I got this headphone, I really don't care about my PC noise level either. Which saved me tons of money on builds for buying regular parts instead of fanless mode hardware.
I own the QC35, and to my knowledge, they use similar sound canceling tech to the QC25s. I've owned dozens of high-end headphones ($300CAD+). I've got to say, I've never had a better pair, they are just amazing. I'm a software engineer. In my industry, it's pretty standard that people have good headphones for working in the office. A number of my co-workers had the QC25s and absolutely loved them. I wanted a new pair and was asking for recommendations. They all said I should get the QC35. I paid ~$500CAD for them and initially thought It was a bit insane, call it buyers anxiety. That anxiety went away in about a day after using them. Nothing I've ever used has come close to the comfort or sound quality of these. As for on a plane, I fly for business occasionally, and yes, these really do work on a plane. They make plane rides fun, and completely remove the sensation of pressure you get from the engine noise, dulling it out completely, so you can relax. I've had them for almost 2 years now, and I love them just as much as the first day. Absolutely unbeatable IMO.
As someone with ADHD that has extreme trouble concentrating on work and school, the QC35s have been an absolute lifesaver. Ever since I found out about them I wanted them. When I finally purchased them, my life changed for the better. Nowadays I carry them around all the time. They're great headphones, but the pads can get worn out easily and replacing them with original ones is expensive ($30). That being said, I'm sure there are much value-oriented options out there. I totally understand why the 25s are selling like hotcakes, though.
30$ is expensive?? i smoke a 1/2 oz of weed a day under prescription at least (60-80$ a day) my point is 30$ for replacement earpads is a steal considering they are high end cans :D
My pads worn out in 22 months (24 months warranty in the EU). They Just sent me a completely new pair of headphones. Same when my cable broke down (Don’t just put them in your pockets), instead of sending me a new (detachable) cable, they gave me a new pair of headphones. Can’t complain about customer service, at least not in my country.
I have owned my QC 25s since 2016 and they have been deployed to the Middle East with me twice over those 4 years. The only thing i had to do, was pay 10 dollars to swap the ear cups out after that 2nd deployment. They are amazing.

My Bose 25's are still working after many years, but had too renew the ear pads. The Bluetooth version Bose 35 /2 £325 + tried them on at an airport store and are they are impressive however there is a converter for the 25's to Bluetooth but the battery only lasts 5 hrs for about £70-£80
could you do a video on headphones in these 4 aspects
1. for indoors where sound quality is paramount
2. for sports and gym
3. for travelling where noise isolation in important
4.in ears
Why does everyone claim they sound better with NC on? To me, all it does is add some static, which I don't appreciate at all.
my qc 25s that i use every day are still going 3 1/2 years later love them

I ordered the Bose QC35 back in 6/2016 and they still work just as good as they did on day 1. I use them at my local public library where there are groups of noisy kids and people on their cell phones and even the occasional band playing music for the kids. I also use them on the NY subway where I can now fall asleep and miss my stop. They do not cancel all sound but they cancel enough sound that I do not need to blast the music.
I've had my QC25 in well over a year and they are still as good as when they were new. it's all about the way you treat your stuff. Same thing with the apple chargers breaking after a year or so, I had mine for like two or three years before it got messed up..

you had them for 4 years and are not telling people about their ear cushions falling apart after 1-2 years, even in moderate usage, which bose charges you 35-50$ to replace?
They have the option to attach a cable are just as good in sound quality and noise canceling and are( in my case) just as good as day 1 after about 1,5 years
Go Klipsch, Bose Quality better price
I'd say Marshall Monitor BT
Well that a decent choice of yours but What are you talking about? This video is not about "linus recommendation"
I have both Bose and Sony. The only advantage of Bose over the Sony is that it’s cooler on the ears on long usages. Other than that, Sony wins all the way.

I've had mine for 3+years. I use them daily and have recently purchased AirMod QC25 Bluetooth adapter so now mine are wireless. Still using the original ear cup cushions. I wipe them with a damp cloth at the end of the day. No problems with quality at all

Disappointed im this video. Please go back to giving more detailed information.
That is what several have said. Thanks for a meaningful comment. Very refreshing.
@Gus Johnson im not buying you an audio engineer if you're using apple headphones
I completely agree, this felt lacking, but i think I see what they were going for
Only if iPhone had an headphone jack
There is a qc35 that is bluetooth but why would you buy an iphone in the first place?

I have my qc25 for 3 years and I use them quiet heavenly and not even a scratch, just as new
I own the Bose QC35 (first gen) headphones.
All the bose headphones sound terrible with the cancelling off! Like a tin can. So weird. Glad it works when the battery is dead though...
I tried the QC35. Even with noise cancelling on, they sound worse than some $100 Sennheisers. I have returned every Bose product I bought, they're all garbage. They sound like what I'd expect from something for $20. I have Skullcandy Bluetooth in ear headphones that sound comparable for $50 and block sound nearly as well...without batteries or that weird noise cancelling pressure.
hahaha skull candy is the worst buddy! no comparison@@aluisious
@@aluisious yeah QC is ok if you really aren't picky about the sound of your music and you need noise canceling . If you listen to any kind of rock or electronic music BOSE is way too flat and has 0 punch
These are actually my favorite headphones that exist!
You are comparing different products man, try less hard fanboy
No he is comparing the qc35/25 with sony's equivalents the 1000XM series.
what? is there such a thing?
THe qc35 does compete with the 1000xm series, but the qc25 doesn't; it's a much simpler set of wired cans.
I 100% bought these headphones to cancel baby noises on the planes, it really is the fucking worst thing ever to hear babies crying
I own these BOSE Noise Cancelling headphones 2 years now and love them

Got the old 25's when they came out and now I have the 35's. Both have been great and are still going strong.
30$ is expensive??
i smoke a 1/2 oz of weed a day under prescription at least (60-80$ a day)
my point is 30$ for replacement earpads is a steal considering they are high end cans :D
