If I had the room for it, I would consider putting one in the center of a room. Esp if it was a fish room. And I would definitely use a cube tank over a standard one. Because you do get a 360° view. Oh and it would absolutely have to have live plants and scaped to perfection. 😊

Congrats on your channel Joanna!!! I can't wait 😊 I prefer the rectangle tanks. But it also depends on your space and the fish you pick. I enjoy having a tank in the center of my house. I'm about to upgrade the 20 gallon tall that helps divide the living room from the dining to a 75 gallon. I love being able to see it from all sides. The only panels I clean the algae from is the dining room side.. For the most part anyway. This is the 2nd time I'm upgrading that particular tank lol.

Cylindrical shaped (acrylic) aquariums are my favorite. I have two 12 gallons and am considering buying an 80 or 125 gallon cylindrical. I’m aware of the limitations and challenges of cylindrical shaped aquariums, but to me those are minor issues. My 2nd favorite are sphere shaped aquariums, such as, the BiOrbs, which I own three of, each 28 gallons. Rectangular shaped aquariums are my least favorite due to their lack of depth, and limited viewing angles. I would prefer either a bow front or 1/2 Moon aquarium over a standard rectangular. Regardless of my preferences, I do have several standard rectangular shaped aquariums as well, but as I expand my collection, I’m favoring non-rectangular shaped ones.

I've had Cubes and Hexagon tanks and due to the ability of fish to swim the length of the tank leads me to prefer rectangle tanks. I have a 80 gallon Hex and I would absolutely love to put it in the center of the room. I think a cube would be great in the center of the room.

  • @James_NatureAquatics
    @James_NatureAquatics 3 роки тому

I agree with rectangular tanks for scaping. If you buy a tank made for scaping that is deeper. I have a 16 gallon sitting beside a 30 gallon rimmed tank.... the 16 gallon is deeper because it’s built for scaping. I like cubes but they are harder to scape and generally a nano. There are large cubes but hard to find. In depth of field it all depends on the scape. I design a scape depending on where it sits in the room compared to where I view it most. I like the comments on the shallow tanks. DOOA Air has some really interesting designs. I want to do a pond style or palidarium scape soon! In cost I prefer low iron tanks, they cost much more.

  • @TheOfficialSteelReign

I may try a building a rimless wall mounted tank if I can get it engineered. I've been toying with the idea of a short and shallow, but exceptionally long, tank that attaches to the wall. Something like 6x6x72 or even 6x6x96 and turn it into a river biotope of sorts.

I like both shapes. I have cubes for my nano tanks, less than 10 gallons, and rectangle for anything bigger than 10. I have to say, I hate putting rectangle tanks side ways, in this case I would prefer a cube. But I guess it really depends on the space I have.

In my garage I have a 6' x 3' desk, on the desk I have a 55gal tank long wise and a 29gal tank perpendicular to the 55. The 55 gal acts a as a pseudo room divider. On one side is the door to the kitchen, the door to the back yard and the path between the two. On the other side of the desk is a work bench with two 10 gal tanks.

  • @Ekster77
    @Ekster77 3 роки тому +2

I have had a cube tank since a year, but regret it now to be quite honest. I think it's hard to aquascape (creating depth) so there I agree with Joanna on that point😁. Often they are rather small, so maintenance can be a nuisance in my opinion. Fish prefer length over height so that's a downside as well. And I agree with Jason on the fact that getting replacement lights e.g. is hard. The upside is that they fit on your dressoir or desk for example. They don’t take up a lot of space and I like that they are rimless.
But I do think that in the future I will be getting a rectangular tank here. I love your lowboys as you call them, but I rarely see them in Holland. That would be my preference. Do you already have a video about what yo do when you want to change your established tank for a new one? How to handle the startup. I am curious about that.

I've always been intrigued with the "middle of the room" tank but until they come up with a way (assuming they don't already have something) to hide the cords and hardware that allow the feature to function. I have seen electrical recepticals installed on the floor, but all those cords and hoses will be unsightly on at least one of the side panels.
Personally I have never tried the tank in the middle of the room, but I did have a 130g livestock trough for my snapping turtle, but as I described above, one side had the canister and all the cords dangling on the side and the cords were strewn across the room, posing as almost constant tripping hazards.

It depends on what kind of creatures you are going to keep in it. If you want fish and want to see them swim from side to side a rectangle tank is probably better , if you want a community with crustaceans and shrimps i think the cube is better because it is light a close neighborhood lol. I have my cube tank in the middle of the room. But plan on replacing it with a rectangular tank soon.

I know it's been couple of years, but I'd totally put a cube tank in the middle of my living room, only I can't. My wife is fully blind ad would just walk into it, and the rest you can imagine.

a square is better in a corner or along a wall but a rectangle goes along a wall or in the middle of a room like a partition

I do like a good cube tank, not crazy about a standard tank, but i love a long tank... 20 long, 33 long, 40 long, 125

Cubes go in My Basement Office, in the center of the Room, as a Divider.

Contemplating putting 220 rectangle in middle of room, or using as a peninsula tank.

I'd totally put a cube tank under or over a end-table or coffee table.

I feel that adding floating plants to my planted 20 long was a mistake... Water changes urk me know... Plants all on my forearms
Edit: picture frame at dollar store for small tank hood is genius!

I just recently got floating plants too They haven’t grown out yet so that’s not really a problem but I have had them get stuck on my hand before while working in the tank I didn’t feel them on my hand at first💯😂

You can make rings to keep them together and leave open spaces in your tank.

I think it really depends on where the tank is going to be placed. Saying one is straight up better than the other is a tough arguement to make.

Cube tank considered in center of room. But a very big cube.

I've had a couple 7 gallon cubes running for a few years.
My biggest mistake with them was using gravel.
Cleaning them has always been a chore: remove most of the contents in order to vacuum the gravel, but with a smaller water volume, you can't vacuum them fully before the water gets too low.
I'm taking them out of service soon.

I would like a rectangle tank but they all seem so thin front to back, if they were deeper I'd definitely prefer that to my cube.

cube alows more front to back depth in your view when concidering its width..........in reality both are just different, and you can certainly feel that vibe case by case, its situational.

I find very few fish that are better suited in a cube tank. It’s all about the length 🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴

A nano tank doesn’t always have to be a small tank It can also be a big tank with big schools of small fish and usually the only time people have a tank in the middle of the room is if it’s behind the couch I know you’re old enough to remember the show (Give me a break) Nell Carter had an aquarium behind her couch That was one of the main things I always remembered about that show I’ve also been watching that show recently on Antenna TV MTS The struggle is real💯😂🌱🐠💙🔥

New here, old here... I’m old wherever I go...
Yin and yang - I was thinking Laurel & Hardy...
Given the same height, a rectangle of a given volume will have the same footprint area as a square.
Hex, oct. or round look best in the center of a room... or racetrack...
Depth front to back is the most important dimension for aquascaping. Rectangles are great for viewing from the same; people choose to hide the ends or not aquascape them for viewing from that angle.
