I liked your tank. It had a lot of movement, starting at the bottom right and zig zagging up to the top. That said I think it could have used a few punches of color. While I get what you were doing with a solid duo-tone, rewarding the viewer with some surprises at each direction change would have been a pleasure. I would add some splashes in the lower right, middle left, and finally a little something at the top right. Like little rest areas for the eyes.
I've just been watching this video, and got to number 21 & thought "wow, now that one is nice!" Came to see comments and this was the top. Totally agreed. Some inspiration there!
For some reason i was immediately attached to #1, im not even in the hobby but that idea of the driftwood in the front, I was hooked. You didnt look at it like a picture, it pulled you in and immersed you in this underwater jungle of minimalism, with that wood in the front it gave a three dimensional experience that surpassed all others. IMHO i greatly respect the judge.
Great video. The only distraction was the reflection of the room lights on the top of the tanks. I am sure I would not have been able to get even close to your artistic presentation.
8, 21, 27 and 29 are great nano tanks with 21 being my clear winner thanks to its great use of shadows and depth. Several others are good tanks too. I've now checked the placement and, yep, I'm not at all surprised by 21 winning.
4...8...9...12.....15...17...18...21...25....27.....29. I'm quite surprised to see that all the winners were on the list I liked the most. BREATHTAKING SCAPES!! ❤❤❤
Absolutly the right winners, great scapes 👍 But i would have Switches the 3. Tank at 1. Place cause the Perspektive from it is very unique and gives it a very good athmosphere wich is in my opinion a tick better than the one which won
Yeah, wanted to say that 21, John Pini, was looking sharp and 3d .......with clear water. But I liked nr. 2, which didn't place.......So I guess that looking nice is in the eye of the beholder too :D
Thanks Rachel! I copied the registered names but I wouldn’t put it past me to have made a copy error! I love #17 as well, once the back stems grow in I bet it will feel much more complete!
The better scapes all make the tank look bigger than it is through depth perception, and understanding rule of thirds, leading viewer focus, and light and shadows. Can see the difference in experience level of the participants. Great video! Good reference for my next nanoscape!
For me number 12 takes the win! I really feel like this is a cut taken out of a small tropical creek and that the small tetras call this their home! I would love to have that as a scape of my own, very well done!
It actually looks like a dick. The stones on the bottom are the testicles, than the dick and the skull is actually the dick head. Damn. This is childish as fuck
No surprises winners have a nice multi-layered scape, with a clear focal end point. Weird that some tank had a backlight and other did not, some of the other tank would have been really great with some backlight.
17 and 29 are my favorites. Both make me want to walk within the scape. In 17, I feel like the ocean is just over the ridge. And in 29, I want to explore the forest. Both had great depth of field and excellent attention to detail. Your cinematography is lovely.
#24 :) It wa different than the stardard approach of "a piece of jungle". Looked like a small hill. Plus the substrate color was matching the rocks and emphasizing the green of plants. 3# caught my eye first but then faded away, lost in multiple clones of the same idea xD
Loved the close ups but was a bit distracted by the reflection of the lights. I’d love to see a contest where everyone got a plain rectangular Aqueon 10 gallon from Petco, some sand, and a $50 decorating budget.
16 was my favorite but I remarked aloud to my wife when the first place entry came up. That is a truly unique layout! I’ve never seen hardscape up against the front glass, leaving an opening to view the layout behind the portal that opens up and creates incredible depth of field.
Omg! I really loved your tank! I was looking for some inspiration because I just bought a nano tank, and I actually stopped the video to go back and play yours again (I didn't know it was yours yet) It really caught my eye! I enjoyed it very much, and I was mesmerized by how simple yet beautiful it was, I appreciated that it stood out from the rest. It's such a disappointment it didn't make it to the top rankings, but I felt really inspired by it! You have a new sub!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I was watching this with my buddy and without knowing you were even part of the competition I'd commented on your setup mainly because as I was telling him, "Man I love how this looks natural and the the color of the rock and substrate was carefully chosen as it looks as if the rocks were slowly worn away over the years and formed the matching substrate!" Nice work. Very impressive. Subbed!
Lol, just for fun i rated all tanks with a score, this was my result: First: 21 Second: 24 Third: 3 / 8 / 12 / 27 Fourth: 20 / 29 i enjoyed this video, thank you for that ! maybe better if you might put the number of the tank in the results ?
I liked 3 a lot, but I actually also really liked 9. I did feel it was missing something, and it probably would have been better in a slightly bigger tank, but the rockwork was really cool, and I actually thought the impact of have just that one species of plant/moss growing in specific patches on the rock was very nice.
Which is weird, because those looked the least natural. I hate when the sand and rocks contrast so hard it brings all the attention to that instead of to the plants/animals.
Not a comment about the scapes per se, but the Rummy Nose Tetras in number 2 look very sick. They say these fish are the coal miner canaries of an aquarium and you can tell the health of your tank by how deep a red nose they have. These poor fish have virtually no colour to their noses and are huddled on the substrate. I believe they are mid level swimmers. I would prefer not having fish in a tank if it's being entered into a competition if the tank isn't ready for inhabitants.
putting rummy nose tetras in one of those (#2) is a torture for the fish, if I was a judge, this one would be directly disqualified because of this. Rummy nose tetra is one of the most active fish you can have in a tank, it needs a group of at least 10 in a tank with a length of at least 80 cm, preferably 100 cm and above. Rummy nose tetras never say at the same spot if they have the space to swim and swim very fast all the time. The trance like movement you see is a typical symptom of a behavioural disease which fish develop when they are put in a tank too small for their needs.

Size of the tanks pls
Number 21, by John Pini was my favourite due to the multiple dimensions, depth and attention to scale, superb.

Most of these were good, but some looked like they were hastily thrown together at the last minute.
They were I think contestants had 4 hours to put it together
You mean most were crap
I thought the same thing
100%

You have an excellent narrative voice for your subject, and I like the pacing of your video work.
The Aquatic Experience this year was awesome. I hung out with the UA-camrs too bad I did not run into you. Cheers!
Yours was my pick! For realsies. Loved the grey gravel choice and rock. Very pleasing.
#21 is my favorite! Others were 3, 8, 7, 10, 21, 29 - they're all beautiful. Great video, inspiring!
4...8...9...12.....15...17...18...21...25....27.....29. I'm quite surprised to see that all the winners were on the list I liked the most. BREATHTAKING SCAPES!! ❤❤❤
My favourites (listing favourites first) are: 21, 27, 12, 9, 3.
I never had a nano.
All of them look fantastic!
Thank's for sharing. 👍🏻
That's it, I'm stealing the winners idea, that tank was just too good
Absolutly the right winners, great scapes 👍

Really loving your videos! Keep up the great work! :)
I like your lava rock formation. craggy.
My favourites are 17, 21 and 29.... love the content.
Your tank stood out to me I like it.
All are great tanks, but the one designed by Cory Hopkins stands out! 🤩
12, 21 and 29 my top three ... Love it
Yeah, wanted to say that 21, John Pini, was looking sharp and 3d .......with clear water.
But I liked nr. 2, which didn't place.......So I guess that looking nice is in the eye of the beholder too :D
Oh man these look beautiful.
Well done brother.. keep spreading the hobby
Well deserved the first place!! 😲
I would vote - 8, 21 & 27.
WOOD + ROCK + GREEN that's all it takes ??? why not 4 or 11 !! they looks bold and passionate...
What is the plant on the far right side at 2:37 in Victor Huang’s tank? Gorgeous. And... what is the red plant behind it?
I like your tank
I liked 12, 21, and 29
Size of tank ?
I think shadows are the common factor of top six tanks.
wow 21 look nice
I liked 7 9 12 15 17 18 20 21 23 24 27 29 not sure which is my favorite but I really like the ones listed.
What's the song (remix) from 6:14 to 10:22?
Tank size?
Loved your tank.
I came for the aquascapes... I come back for the music
Is there a link to where i can buy one of these glass tanks? Id love to scape my own in one of these.
The problem with nano tanks is it's hard to maintain balance long term. Easier to keep a larger volume
does 19 have water in it?
2:39 what is this plant on the right ;O it is nice
Wonderfull
#21 John Pini
Why is there no water in #19?? It’s and aquascaping contest not a lifeless terrarium contest!! Lol
great job alex. One correction- #15 is Ricky Chawla, as opposed to Rich. My favorite, for a few reasons, was number 17- Hock Ng.
Thanks Rachel! I copied the registered names but I wouldn’t put it past me to have made a copy error! I love #17 as well, once the back stems grow in I bet it will feel much more complete!

No 7 - Just calm and lovely

6:42 I'm sorry, but if that's one of the best nano aquascapes in america, america sure is slacking.
Haha yeah wtf
There's quite a few here that are lame.
Agreed, it sucks
It actually looks like a dick. The stones on the bottom are the testicles, than the dick and the skull is actually the dick head. Damn. This is childish as fuck
Yes. That was exactly what I was thinking. Thank you for saying it out loud. 😝🤫
This might be a dumb question but how big are those nano tanks, gallon wise?
10:00 the guy forgot his plants at home lol

17 has nice depth, 21 is also nice, 24 I like because of the colour choices grey and green and the rock type , 27 nice jungle cliff,

yours is so cool! I loved the matte black sand, way different than what the other tanks had. :) all it needed was shrimp or a betta boi
Beautiful. Anyone know what size they are)
This wasn't only a very good video (I'm just getting back into the hobby) but you also just introduced me indirectly to Chris Zabriskie. THANK YOU!!
3, 12, 21 and 29 were my favourites, and 3 of those finished in the top 6, so I guess I have the same taste as the judges :)
#8, 21, 25, 27. Are my top choices. Look great. I would think 21 or 8 are the winners.
Very nice. I like it
What on gods green earth was #19 like did he just throw some dead shit in a tank with some water and just show up to the contest 🤦🏾♂️
Lol, just for fun i rated all tanks with a score, this was my result:
First: 21
Second: 24
Third: 3 / 8 / 12 / 27
Fourth: 20 / 29
i enjoyed this video, thank you for that ! maybe better if you might put the number of the tank in the results ?
What sizes were these tanks? They all look amazing
That’s a great question! These are 15 gallon cubes.
which gallon ? us or imp ?
@@g06o84r US. this are 29 of the best nano aquascapes of the us so it's US gallon
These tanks are absolutely stunning and you photographed them perfectly displaying their beauty. Great video. 👍
Funny enough yours was the one i though wow i must try this one, the others felt like something that Will fastly desolve
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THESE TANKS?
Quite a few that were very interesting. Suprised how low many of them ranked. Nice video like always👍👍👍
I don't know... But why I feel so much inspiring after watching the videos of Tank Tested!!!

Lmao, most of these weren’t even built by Americans, looking at their last name, I know some of them are Vietnameses and some other countries
All the winners had dark spindly wood, grey rocks and light sand.
Which is weird, because those looked the least natural. I hate when the sand and rocks contrast so hard it brings all the attention to that instead of to the plants/animals.

Omg did you see the betta on number 28? Heartbreaking and irresponsible!💔 Liked 7, 14 and 21 btw

That setup is actually good for Blackwater setup.
No joke, when I saw 21 I thought to myself "If I was a fish, this would be the best place I would be happy to live in" sure enough, it was the winner.
Not a comment about the scapes per se, but the Rummy Nose Tetras in number 2 look very sick. They say these fish are the coal miner canaries of an aquarium and you can tell the health of your tank by how deep a red nose they have.

I agree with judges choice #21 as the very best. Top, sides and bottom are filled, most difficult to finish and execute.
For me The best 1 is yours aquascapr especialy cuz of this kinda medow there..gorgeous🤝👌
putting rummy nose tetras in one of those (#2) is a torture for the fish, if I was a judge, this one would be directly disqualified because of this. I love the tanks but this video would’ve been better with some 90s R&B or Jazz Just a suggestion for future videos
I just got a 5 gallon cube just like these. Now comes the hard part. How should I tackle this? What species should I take care of too?
Definitely think 1st, 2nd & 3rd should be switched with 4th, 5th & 6th place by the judges
I am new to this, just a beginner, my favorite's, 10,17,21,23,27,29
3 and 21 have so much depth, I can't tell where they end.
