Good tips. :) I've only ever been harassed once. Two guys kept trying to get me to pvp and wouldn't leave me alone in my camp. They followed me into one of my rooms and so I put a lock on the door. So to get out they had either had to fast travel or pick the lock (and get wanted). They fast traveled and I blocked them.

I feel it's sad for me that I pay for fallout first mostly to avoid griefers. It has happened to me rarely, but when it happens and they kill me (my camp is barebones soooo it's not a target really), it turns me off from playing in public servers, which I honestly like doing for events.

You don't need to logout to go AFK. Just go into sneak and fast travel to a location that has low traffic and squat in a bush while being AFK. Sneaking removes your map marker and hiding in a bush near a low traffic area means you can probably squat there for 8 hours and nobody will spot you. Example if you go to Autumn Acre Cabin, turn left to face north and go hide in a bush where you cannot see the road anymore the chances of anyone finding you are near impossible. There's nothing north of the fast travel spot for players to want to go to, no resource nodes, no random encounters, just nothing of interest, what players will go there for is the cabin, the treasure map south of the cabin, the random encounter northeast past the cabin, or the hunters shack east of it, not your bush in the woods that has nothing of interest in that direction or nearby.
You can also go squat on a toilet in any train station, everyone has already checked the toilets for loot then ignores them after and nobody checks them for AFK players. If someone's new to the game and does look in the room they will get a surprise... catch you on the toilet lol.

After I killed him, I sent him a message that simply said "Oops", he didn't respond...

The reports on here have definitely made me realize the best Fallout 76 anti-griefing tip is to play on console. Besides lacking many of the cheats and hacks, the extra monthly fee for Xbox Live or PlayStation Plus goes towards moderators on top of what Bethesda offers. That’s two layers of protection, and reporting users to Xbox or PlayStation can be far more devastating than on PC where the game is cheap and it’s easy to create a new account.

One thing that I would like to share as an anti-grief tip, since not everyone has or can have that brotherhood tower, is to use weaker materials to build your housing like wood since it will be destroyed faster than other materials.
This is only worth mentioning because once your wood foundation is destroyed, anything sitting on top of it will disappear, hopefully before it can be destroyed too.

Griefed 2 times this evening. One level 179 at scorched earth the other level 213 at a breach and clear. From here both incidents are identical. Invisible player in both cases however names did display once they attacked. Both used a flame thrower like weapon. Both were instant kills (with me in pacifist mode). Upon my death both displayed the "lost 50 caps" message. An interesting footnote. In both cases as fast as that message indicated lost 50 caps appeared their bounties vanished even though I could still see their player icon and name. Don't know what any of this means. Just felt it might be useful data for you. The flame weapon. As soon as I heard the flame I died before any chance to react. Thank you for being a voice for those of us that desire to play within the rules and guidelines of the game.

Every time ive challenged players that try to PVP me in Adventure I send them a message to meet me on Nuclear Winter. Luckily I haven't been grieved too much. 99% of my encounters have been great. I had one guy start shooting my old camp and so I server hopped. The other day, two guys spawned at my Camp and started shooting me and my Camp up and I left the server. Someone destroyed my cow's fodder and I repaired it. Most people are actually kind to me and will even leave me gifts at my Camp. My Camp is dedicated to farming and so I have the vintage water coolers in a building that is left open. I have all of the major crops planted and there are tons of them. I have a fenced in cow, a beehive, and a chicken coop. My home is a two story wooden house that is nicely placed and built. I sold all of my major things in the vending machine and I still leave it up cause people are free to come and take as much as they want, especially newer players.

Pacifist mode can help in terms of a specific griefing method I experienced on my first playthrough. The dross item players use during the dross toss daily technically counts as a weapon and if it hits another player thats in the way of the targets (on purpose or not) they can shoot back at you and kill you if youre not prepared.

One of the biggest griefing issues my mom and I get are when we take a workshop over for either scoreboard or to get a few things, we're almost always killed by extremely high level players. She's over 100 and I'm 80. We're casual players and don't live near each other. So fallout is a great way to connect and play. And the griefers never take the workshop. They just kill us and run away. It's immature and beyond ridiculous. I keep my camp open and friendly. So does she.

It seems the griefers wait to see the workshop 'owner' get to the workshop, spawn in, then a quick kill and grab their junk. They don't even claim the workshop. I have developed a tactic of only bringing minimal resources and always placing a stash box at the workshop so I can stay empty.

Another pointer from my personal experience. If you lock up all your apparatus with level 3 locks you are more prone to camp griefs! I used to lock up everything back at launch and I noticed my stuff consistently got destroyed by passerbys. Since then I leave everything open for all and my camp greifs have totally disappeared.

A small tip on fixing moo-moos:
if your building budget allows - plant and then store a bunch of razorgrains. When moo-moo dies plant those stored razorgrains and scrap them - boom! You don't have to fast-travel anywhere.

It was a camp where I had to stand on a pressure plate and walk into a room without windows. I went in and could not get out and triggered a blow torch. I was so surprised by their ingenuity, that I laughed really hard and couldn’t be mad.

I think the way they trigger the explosive bait (it doesnt always work when they throw it down) but they can put it down then try to kite enemies to your camp, since it works on npc enemies it will then trigger. Thats why it still works at fasnacht, the critters trigger it as well as super mutants and radtoads. Since critters trigger it as well I think having brahmin at your base or chickens will possibly cause it to automatically trigger.

Just discovered your channel. Great content. I played Fallout 76 for maybe six weeks during "early access" (beta) and after initial launch. Since then, I only play Fallout 76 maybe two to three weeks per year. Your videos are very, very helpful for teaching me (an infrequent player). I am very sorry to hear that you have been targeted by nasty Griefers. Since launch, I have strongly felt that Bethesda should offer no-PvP (co-op play only) servers. But I guess they never will? Maybe Bethesda doesn't rid the game of Griefers . . . because they motivate customers to get Fallout 1st to have a private server?
You have mentioned that Griefers track you down even after you swap servers? On the Bethesda website they state, "Once you have completed steps one and two [block player and swap servers], you will never interact with this player again. If a player is on your blocked list, our system separates you to different server environments, so you will not encounter them again." Is this statement not true? (Would be nice if it were true.)

Griefers dont even have the excuse of being pvpers. There is an event for that, workshops, slapping eachother, or becoming wanted.
Everytime I engage and kill them they end up rushing my camp and targeting generators and purifiers. Blocking does nothing. You can only take their junk once when they keep rushing you.

So just a story I'm gonna share for everyone thinking griefing doesn't happen. I played the BETA and a bit after, loved the game but didn't like the bugs - so I decided to give Bethesda some time to get it to a stable state. I finally came back and rerolled a new character once Wastelanders dropped, as I heard that the game was pretty stable by that point. Not only did I play the BETA, I watch a lot of videos on this game, read Wikis, etc so I know how the game works fairly well. Well, after I hit level 15 and had my CAMP set up across the bridge from the Wayward, vendors and all, a dude with the username "pigpen" and a bunch of numbers comes up to my CAMP and buys some stuff. Dude must have been like, twice my level, I think he was around level 70-80. I don't think anything of it, I'm inside my locked off Red Rocket prefab crafting stuff when I see the notification pop - pigpen is wanted! And I look through the window to see the dudes still there. I didn't see what he'd done at the time, but when I went back after, turns out he'd taken all my crops (which would have been fine tbh) and unlocked my Scavenger bot. Even that would have been one thing, and as he was twice my level and I didn't see what he did, I didn't shoot. I figured maybe he'd lockpicked something by mistake, I'd heard about it before, and even if it wasn't dude was twice my level, I'm not PVPing him. So I stay inside my prefab and wait for the dude to leave. I'm looking out the window in the side door when next thing I know I hear the garage door opening. Dude had lockpicked that open and was waltzing in. I didn't know what he was up to so I locked it again. Then he opened the garage and side door again. I figured out that he was trying to do some low level trolling so I emoted "no" at him, basically saying hey dude I don't want to PVP, go away. He didn't. I tried to block him for the session - I didn't know blocking didn't work then - only to come back to see him stealing my newly regrown crops. Well I'd had enough at that point so I blocked him, reported him and signed off. I later got an email follow up from Bethesda basically saying they wouldn't do anything, oh well. I thought that was the end of it, I stayed offline for a couple days figuring he'd forget about me. Well when I finally came back, it was worse. At first he left me alone but a couple hours in, him and a friend kept following me to all of my quests, making the mobs spawn in at twice my level and killing me in the process or making me break my weapons, armor and run out of ammo. Basically made the game unplayable. I knew blocking didn't do anything at that point so I'd sign off and hope he'd leave by the time I came back. Nope, kept happening. This was before the One Wasteland update and on Xbox, BTW. So I ended up taking the plunge into Fallout 1st and basically played the game in my private world until I was higher leveled, about level 47 or so. Then I came back to the main game, but I hid my CAMP and kept my vendors off and snuck literally everywhere. It must have taken over a month before I was able to put it back up safely. I still spotted his buddy following me, but the only places I'd pop up at there were no enemies at so he couldn't do much. A couple times he'd pop up down the way from my tent, for example. Another week went by and they finally stopped. And don't get me started on the others who when I was level 15-20 kept trying to start PVP with me, even when I said no, and they were over level 100 or higher. Persistently. I'd just be by the Wayward or out in the world exploring, it was irritating. One I even had to block and server hop before they'd stop. I didn't fight back, I knew how PVP worked but still, that's blatant trolling imo. So yeah guys trolling happens. Even now at level 130 I still get run ins with trolls. I just know how to avoid it better now. One tip I can offer is if you go AFK, do it in your shelter. Lock the shelter door and set up an entrance with a lockable door and turrets. This way even if they get in, the turrets will shoot them on sight and they'd still have another lock to get through, making it more of a hassle. If a troll really bugs you, nope out to your private server if you have one and lay low for a while. Someone also suggested I try blocking them on the actual Xbox next time it happens, but I haven't had anything that severe happen since, still its something you can try if you get harassed to badly. Also, I see this a lot - guys, workshops are open PVP zones. The little pop up notification even warns you it is when you take one. If someone attacks you at a workshop and you die even with pacifist, that's not trolling, that's PVP where you didn't know the rules. Granted it's a crappy thing to do to a low level but a lot of players think that's how you learn. If you can, take workshops on private servers or do it when you're high leveled and well equipped enough to fight back. Until then, go to fo76map.com. Hide everything but the junk you need specifically in the drop down menu. Set up CAMP next to that node and build a resource thingy to harvest it. There you go, junk without workshops. Should hold you for a long time. That's what I did. Anyway, thought I'd share my story of the worst troll I've gotten, and a couple tips I learned on how to avoid it.
Edit: I forgot to mention, when you're low level a good rule of thumb is to build your CAMP in the safe zone that can't be nuked. You can Google it if you like, but I know it goes down to Flatwoods, The Wayward and I think Point Pleasant. That also saves you the hassle of being nuked with no radiation protection, though I would also suggest getting power armor or a Hazmat suit as soon as you venture outside that zone. You never know, after all.

@@cmac8141 Hey its all good, I just wanted to share my story because I see a lot of comments on here and on Innovs poll doubting trolling even happens, or if it does its just a newb misunderstanding how the game works. I just wanted to illustrate that's not the case all the time. I didn't let it stop me playing and enjoying the game, just used it as a lesson. And now I game with a great group of people in Fallout 76 and we have a great time. If I run across any trolls I know what actions to take. I've learned and moved on, yanno? And yeah, I realize that now but I didn't think about it at the time. I didn't realize that Bethesdas reporting and blocking function was going to be so bad, and after that I was so focused on avoiding it I didn't think it through. If it happens again to that extent, I definitely will do that though. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Griefing BECAUSE of Camp never happened to me. Why?
Here's the thing: NOTHING is as shitty as my camps: they're out in the open, maybe on top of an unadorned wooden platform, and ALL resources (like water, plants and minerals) are totally FREE for whomever needs them. Also only fixtures are crafting benches that's it. No cosmetic stuff, only useful things to anybody. No locks. I have some of the crafting stuff duplicated inside a simple locked shelter - they would gain nothing from storming that either - it's there only because of nukes.
I have not been camp-nuked ever. Other griefings have occurred, but, once they see I'm both pacifist and totally irresponsive to their tries, they usually give up, nothing in it for them.
Oh, one more thing! Do not engage in any workshop activity (especially defending yours), in public servers, I've once been killed by an a-hole with a hacked gun that posed as if he was going to help me.

I started playing the game pretty much right away when it first came out but then I quit for over a year maybe a year and a half just came back to the game recently. The only issue I have ever had is being at someone else's camp checking out what they have for sale and then another player comes up to me and starts hitting me trying to have me engage them. one person was doing it Non-Stop and they were only a level 15. I just ignored them and eventually they went away. I do have to say however I was watching a video and when it came to the section on trap camps I just about peed my pants laughing at the shots of players coming in and then just crumbling to the ground. I very seldom carry any junk on me when I go to anyone's camp. I go to camps to check out plans because I miss so much in game. I had one person have 7 plans of a Brahmin plushie and he wanted 2000 caps for it, I don't have that many caps as I just started out again. Went to someone's camp cause I saw they had ammo and I needed to knockout the buy or sell 25 items thing on the weekly. I was looking through the selection in the second of the four vending machines, I had already purchased what ammo I could use and was looking through the the weapons they had for sale. They had a nice gangters tommy gun 3 star and the price was very reasonable so I bought it. Next thing I know my character is getting shot at with a shotgun of some sort and explosions are going off I finish up my business with the machine and scan around and there some little fella throwing around explosive bait and shooting at the vending machines. It was a bit crazy I watched for about five seconds and than I headed my character away from the camp. I looked on the map to see who the owner was and they were involved in an event the one where you fight all the mole miners in the mine. Either way I saw my characters way outta there and just headed to the next camp to do some shopping. I got lucky besides the gun I got two plans at another camp vendor I didn't know yet and one of them was one I really wanted and thought I missed out on.

In regards to explosive bait ... it is not a fixed object so you can remove them from your camp ... !!!
By using an explosive rifle you can shoot them and they will move in the kinetic direction they were shot ... so you can literally shoot them out of your base and off your area ...
If one does become trapped behind some furniture and you can't get it out ... take the wall off next to it and shoot it out ...
Someone tried this with my outpost once ... it took me all of 5 minutes to shoot all the bait out and into the river next to me ...

The extent of my "griefing" in 76 is picking locks but not taking anything so people can come kill me & make progress on their 'Kill 76 Wanted Players' challenge.

I dunno about pc but blocking someone on xbox tends to make it so you don't see them that often unless they join someone's server that you are on.

im fine with trying pvp and am working on my pvp gear since my build is good at the moment a couple weeks ago I met a trap base player outside of the wayward and they would not fight me back. some griefers are scared of a real fight, doesnt make sense to me at all.

Love your videos always so informative and helpful. My camps never been griefed but I definitely run into the annoying harassment types all the time. Had a group of 3 players couple of days ago just walk up and start punching and shooting me while I was trying to craft and repair weapons.

It's sad that there's toxic players that go around ruining people's camp's just to do it and probably thinking it makes them feel more bigger and badder than anyone else but in reality they are just cowards trying to go around bullying others players so it makes them feel more better about them selves talk about being self insecure is most of the grieffers issue atleast I think so. As someone as chill and nice as she is you think people would try to show her some love instead of ruining her camp. I hope you have better experience playing fallout 76 now of days and the best thing is like you said kill them with kindness! ❤️😀 I've been playing on Xbox for the past few months and I've not gotten my camp destroyed but my issue is people abusing legacys and ruining every public event not just for me but for all of the other players especially the newer players that can't even enjoy the game because of how out of control legacys are on the Xbox servers

PS4/PS5 players are pretty chill. I never really got griefed in my 1000+ hours playthrough. Am I just lucky or what?

    • @kylavitek
      @kylavitek 3 роки тому

I'm on PS4 & got griefed a lot as a low level character. I actually had to change my privacy settings because someone kept following me. It's a bit of a pain since people can't add me, but 🤷🏼‍♀️. Now that I'm a high level, I don't get bothered. I'm not sure if it's the privacy setting or just because it's harder for them to pick on someone their own size.
