It was so satisfying and interesting to watch these highly skilled artisans. I agree they deserve top dollar for their work! I hope I get to visit a manufactory like this some day.
May those hands that worketh so hard lack nothing good. May your house be filled with blessings. May you and your family live long healthy and peaceful life. Amen!
Thank you very much for such an interesting & well-done documentary...I don't imagine many people have the slightest realization of just how much time, planning, & effort, & with such intense attention having to be paid to so many many details that go into the making of these beautiful rugs... beyond the actual weaving by hand...I'm a textile artist in the U.S., & am simply mesmerized...I wish I could speak to the Artisans as I have so many questions...
They put in hours after hours in these beautiful rugs and I hope their hard work pays off, they deserve top dollar. I hope one day I will own one of these beautiful rugs
It would be great to see a commentary on this channel about the extreme disparity in profit and labour between Western 'designers'/labels. Making obscene wealth from the techniques, fine skills and traditions of these workers who are not compensated fairly is nothing but colonialism disguised as a free market. We know who Robyn Cosgrove is now -great - but who are these nameless artisans? You absolutely have a responsibility to address these issues as a channel devoted to textiles
Jenny N last part of your comment was .....silly...i agree these are wonderful as is. The culture.... ...culture we have isnt supportive of this...you would complain if “ unemployed “ had this raw material, sheep etc. around in your neighborhood...this is a cultural thing...where to get sheep ...etc. please...i wish we had a culture like this more...stop comparing .
Yes earlier around 20 years ago , they were getting very less, but the Jaipur Rugs company has organized these people and seen to it, that they get the fruits of their labor. They are now given health care, education for children and in general they are connected with cities around the world so that the work of rug making is recognized as an art form .
Indudablemente este trabajo que nos muestran es muy hermoso pero en Gualupita, Edo. de México hay unas preciosidades también. Aquí en Saltillo hay hasta escuela para enseñar a tejerlos y son muy hermosos.
It's a sickening shame that Robyn Cosgrove puts his or her name on these rugs and also reaps the most financial gain from the labor of these peasants. It's the way of the world I suppose.
Hi Judy...I've been thinking the same thing & imagining how very difficult it must be for these Artisans sitting for many hours... day after day...after day... on nothing but a cold, hard concrete floor...I 've lived in Southeast Asia, & was literally sickened...HEARTBROKEN over the mass abject poverty I saw EVERYWHERE around me...How these poor people are taken advantage of so badly by foreign business enterprises sickens me...
Today, "peasant" is a term used to define workers of lower classes...I used to live in & travel a lot, throughout Southeast Asia, & I can pretty much guarantee you these laborers are indeed..."peasants"...Yes, they are all too often taken advantage of by the large overseas Corporations responsible for their jobs & working conditions, but for most it's the only way their large/extended families can survive day-to-day...Calling someone a "peasant" in a Country where social ranking & "class" is still very much a part of their Society, is not such a bad thing... Cheers...
Its truly disgusting. I have travelled to many places to see the craft traditions and the same advantage is taken of artisans everywhere...ruining their bodies and having myopic lives to make a couple of people huge $$$ and a luxurious, aesthetic existence for only the elites. It is sickening
Eso lo hacía mi suegro en xuchitepec, Edo. de México. Además hacía cobijas muy bonitas. Me enseñó a hacer el anudado de las puntas para que no se destejieran.
Balendula ...they are not snails but soapnut...we call them Reetha...its a natural seed to wash stuff for soft effect..human hair/gold becum shiny glossy
Aritha/reetha (aka soapnuts) contain a natural, gentle cleanser called saponin. I use them on my yarns after spinning and for laundering some of my fiber art projects.
We get so easily discouraged with projects...then these people show up! What marvellous hard-working people...and such beautiful work! 🌹
these people have my utmost respect! this is a long process and they deserve top dollar for their art!
Laura Torres .....thanku
You took the words right out of my mouth. They do the most beautiful work and I would love to one of these days own one

What a fascinating video! So many steps, each by individual artisans.
May those hands that worketh so hard lack nothing good. May your house be filled with blessings. May you and your family live long healthy and peaceful life. Amen!
Wonderful hand craft, highly skilled artists .

Amazing colours and watching them work so hard. A few of our unemployed need lessons in working hard. As you say they should get top dollars.

Mia Behrens that’s exactly what I thought
Wow, they are all amazingly skilled artisans. Wonder how much the rugs are.... And sadly how little the artisans receive.

Try not calling them peasants before you go for somebody else

Eso lo hacía mi suegro en xuchitepec, Edo. de México. Además hacía cobijas muy bonitas. Me enseñó a hacer el anudado de las puntas para que no se destejieran.
