This Is so elegant and beautiful, lots of people seem to think this is strange but let's not forget that in the Victorian era widows would often wear necklaces containing their late husbands hair, besides, hair isn't going to give much use when brushed out, so why not give it life in a centuries old tradition of beautiful art.
Gorgeous! Given that hair is sacred and magical in many traditions. Victorian England wove hair into jewellery and other keepsakes such as memento mori.
Unbelievable the patience this people have to be sitting there for hours and days and weeks and months on one piece of art before you can even see a bit of a result !!! It must be pure passion to be able to do that! As wonderful as it is, it would be too boring for me lol
Kokoro5050 i think its quite spiritual- I have a dear friend whos wanting me to use my leather work to honor her prized quarter horse that died suddenly and i have some of his hair- this is so exciting because this is the perfect way to honor him 💖
Ok so hair is actually very strong one strand of hair can hold three pounds meaning if you have long well maintained hair then cut it off and made it into a rope I would be one of the strongest ropes in the world
Adrian S. each hair is very thin, of course one strand won’t be able to hold much. The fibers which makes up rope aren’t strong when singled out but when you tie them together, they can hold a lot
Historically, children have been learning how to sew, knit, weave, COOK, and more since about the time they start walking and talking. In fact, it's been shown that you significantly REDUCE the risk of a child being injured in the home by common home economic activities if you include them in those activities from the beginning. This is particularly true in kitchens - children who know how to behave around a hot stove are not going to get burned, are they? Growing up, I "hung out" with the adults working on quilts with my own little hoop and needle going back as long as I can remember, was definitely before I started kindergarten. I also starting crocheting when I was between 4 and 5.
That is something wonderful. The devotions to Guanyin and the sacrifice of ones hair, something we take for granted daily, the time and the talent of the embroiders, and the concentration to meditate while stitching all combine to make something so special.
rocio marisol velasco caravantes y yo que me sentía orgullosa que mi abuelita materna me enseñó a bordar y hacíamos toallitas para la cocina y fundas de almohada, nada que ver con ésta belleza y paciencia de éstas mujeres..
This is so beautiful. I love learning about history and this video was so interesting. This art seems so special because its like you are incorporating a physical piece of yourself and lineage and preserving in a masterful piece. Thank you for uploading. The music was mesmerizing.
What does washing it in egg yolk + water do for the hair? Does it clean it better? Give it a certain texture? This is all really cool and I'm just curious.
Egg makes hair stronger and more shiny, it "nourishes" it. Since she's collecting hair and it's not fresh the hair dries out when no longer getting natural oils from the scalp. And dry hair is weak hair, you don't want to be embroidering and have the hair snap on you! But for real try it on your own hair on your head, works wonders.
OMG, I'm so mad at myself now. My hair was all the way down my back and got it cut up to the top of my shoulders, and I have EXTREMELY thick hair!!! Damnit. Live n learn!
We can also do this may be in a faster and cheaper way ... My father used to make face portraits by silk strings hand embroidery.. but this embroidery is also amazing and very fine .....
Maravilloso * que bonito que conservan sus tradiciones. Es una hermosa manera de usar los cabellos que caen de nosotros, esa que como mencionan, representa la energía del humano. Todo tan natural ∆
They also stitch over the same part until it's more noticeable I'm mixed of Japanese and french and Asians have very thick straight hair and Asians very rarely bald but it's very common for Europeans to bald of have extremely fragile hair I have wave thick hair my hair type is from my french mom but the amount and strength of it is from my dad. Hair embroidery is very time consuming but sooo beautiful lol
My hair is getting really long. It's reaching my ass and imagine if every day we lose 100 hairs. Because of that, I have to sweep really often. But, now that I see this Omg I feel so tempted.
Crystal...Just Google "beading/bead needles," & you should get an awful lot of information/references, etc...There are countless online needlework shops...I'd also check out eBay...Good luck...
The amount of skill and patience it must take to do this is astounding

I cut my hair a year ago and kept it, because it was quite a lot. I feel tempted to embroider with it 😂
Do it!
Leena Husa Do it !

Jipsee Bree I'm sure they washed hair before cutting it so it's clean hair lol

Oh my! Someone should do this but with different hair colours all together. That would be so cool😍😍😍
Peace Out *vomits*
that's a great idea !
haha..yaa... it might be cool
When I was little (7-10) I'd embroider or sew things up with strands of my hair.
Nice to know I wasn't a total werido lol
Kokoro5050 aha well long it was clean it's all good
Katherine Canon I suppose so. I'd pluck strands straight from my head.
...slightly less awful than digging them from a brush?
Kokoro5050 i think its quite spiritual- I have a dear friend whos wanting me to use my leather work to honor her prized quarter horse that died suddenly and i have some of his hair- this is so exciting because this is the perfect way to honor him 💖
This is so beautiful! That amount of concentration and dedication needed for this ancient art is extraordinary!
Is it just me but the song in the background is quite catchy ;)
Jack Nordqvist The song is singing about the Buddha in the video. The woman Buddha you see at the last part of video
Ok so hair is actually very strong one strand of hair can hold three pounds meaning if you have long well maintained hair then cut it off and made it into a rope I would be one of the strongest ropes in the world
Kaitlyn Odom that's cool lol

And here I am with my hair that can barely handle 1 lb
Adrian S. each hair is very thin, of course one strand won’t be able to hold much. The fibers which makes up rope aren’t strong when singled out but when you tie them together, they can hold a lot

I’m jealous of how she got the string inside the needle in just one try ;_;
This is fascinating! Thank you for making this video!
Scary? This is Art, she's creative, good for her she uses things for something good
Never underestimate Budhist pattience.
The serenity of the embroiderer was nearly as beautiful as the piece she was working on.
This is amazing. And the way this mini-documentary is edited and narrated only enhances the mystical feels of this art form.
That is something wonderful. The devotions to Guanyin and the sacrifice of ones hair, something we take for granted daily, the time and the talent of the embroiders, and the concentration to meditate while stitching all combine to make something so special.

Wow, amazing 👌👌👌
Massive respect
Después de todo, el cabello es también una fibra, como la de los otros animales. Hermosos bordados.
This is so amazing and beautiful ❤❤ I respect the people who make these.
If you're cheap you don't need to buy silk just use hair.
Born 2 play hair is pretty expensive tho.
Buy a cheap long long long wig😂
Interesting and great idea to use the wonderful resources that we have naturally.

interesting tradition but imagine how thick that hair is? My hair is light brown and so fine it is hard to see with the naked eye :)
miaskittens D Asian hair is usually pretty thick compared to european hair (:
That explains a lot :)
They also stitch over the same part until it's more noticeable
