    This Is so elegant and beautiful, lots of people seem to think this is strange but let's not forget that in the Victorian era widows would often wear necklaces containing their late husbands hair, besides, hair isn't going to give much use when brushed out, so why not give it life in a centuries old tradition of beautiful art.

    I cut my hair a year ago and kept it, because it was quite a lot. I feel tempted to embroider with it 😂

    Gorgeous! Given that hair is sacred and magical in many traditions. Victorian England wove hair into jewellery and other keepsakes such as memento mori.

    Unbelievable the patience this people have to be sitting there for hours and days and weeks and months on one piece of art before you can even see a bit of a result !!! It must be pure passion to be able to do that!
    As wonderful as it is, it would be too boring for me lol

      ...slightly less awful than digging them from a brush?

      Kokoro5050 i think its quite spiritual- I have a dear friend whos wanting me to use my leather work to honor her prized quarter horse that died suddenly and i have some of his hair- this is so exciting because this is the perfect way to honor him 💖

    Ok so hair is actually very strong one strand of hair can hold three pounds meaning if you have long well maintained hair then cut it off and made it into a rope I would be one of the strongest ropes in the world

      Adrian S. each hair is very thin, of course one strand won’t be able to hold much. The fibers which makes up rope aren’t strong when singled out but when you tie them together, they can hold a lot

      Historically, children have been learning how to sew, knit, weave, COOK, and more since about the time they start walking and talking. In fact, it's been shown that you significantly REDUCE the risk of a child being injured in the home by common home economic activities if you include them in those activities from the beginning. This is particularly true in kitchens - children who know how to behave around a hot stove are not going to get burned, are they?
      Growing up, I "hung out" with the adults working on quilts with my own little hoop and needle going back as long as I can remember, was definitely before I started kindergarten. I also starting crocheting when I was between 4 and 5.

    That is something wonderful. The devotions to Guanyin and the sacrifice of ones hair, something we take for granted daily, the time and the talent of the embroiders, and the concentration to meditate while stitching all combine to make something so special.

    What does washing it in egg yolk + water do for the hair? Does it clean it better? Give it a certain texture? This is all really cool and I'm just curious.

    • @LivLaugh
      @LivLaugh 6 років тому +1

      Egg makes hair stronger and more shiny, it "nourishes" it. Since she's collecting hair and it's not fresh the hair dries out when no longer getting natural oils from the scalp. And dry hair is weak hair, you don't want to be embroidering and have the hair snap on you!
      But for real try it on your own hair on your head, works wonders.

      I'm mixed of Japanese and french and Asians have very thick straight hair and Asians very rarely bald but it's very common for Europeans to bald of have extremely fragile hair
      I have wave thick hair my hair type is from my french mom but the amount and strength of it is from my dad. Hair embroidery is very time consuming but sooo beautiful lol
