- After the Lombaxes were sent to a different dimension, Ratchet's father sent him to the Solana Galaxy or more precisely planet Veldin out of all other planets out there. Why Veldin?
The Lombaxes lived on planet Fastoon in the Polaris Galaxy. Planet Veldin has a very similar environment, a desert planet. It looks like Veldin has some Lombax technology around the place, as if research was being done and suddenly got abandoned.

Veldin has symilar climate to Fastoon, looking at lombaxes, they are genetically adapted to desert enviroent. Their colours would be a great camuflage in Africa-like landscape (also their fur has light colors so Sun doesn't affect them that much) their big ears are good for cooling blood (like fenek or desert cottontail) in high temperatures and their fur is a good protection from cold, desert nights and bugs that are really common in warm climate. Also their big feet help walking on sand. Even the giant eyebrows help sweat not to get into his eyes on this giant sauna of a planet.
That might have played a role in choosing new place for Ratchet, his faher wanted him to live on a planet symilar to home here he would feel comfortable.

Loved your technical/scientific response! Now what about Angela Cross? She most likely lived on Greblin for some time, where it's freezing cold. Now you're saying their fur doesn't completely absorb sun rays due to their color. So going with that, maybe Lombaxes can live in cold climates as well.

Ratchet was 15 in the first game, and was 17 in the third game, cause in that racing game of Jak it says on Ratchet's profile he is 18 by Deadlocked, and he was born the year 5339 and the first game is set in 5354 making him 15.
I know, he's 15 years old, if he was 17 years old that would be too old for him in the first game. I think he's supposed to be 15 years old in the first game.

This is the kind of detective work I appreciate.
As desert creatures, Lombaxes would naturally favor hot, arid planets as oppose to cold or temperate ones. Its all about their adaptions to thrive in harsh dry canyons and roam sandy dunes. After all, if you look at a little rodent call Jerboa (super weird looking critters), it looks like a mini real world (but disfigured) Lombax that hops. Heck it even has fuzz on its back paw pads just like Lombaxes whose soles are cover in fur to protect from the baking sun.
I think Lombaxes had certainly came in contact with Veldin. After all, many people in the Solana Galaxy knows what a Lombax is and thus never questions Ratchet's species. I like to believe that a small population of these highly intelligent, anthropomorphic animals had once colonized Veldin in the distant past but were forcefully taken back to Fastoon to fight in the war. As such Veldin was left to the citizens of Solana to repopulate the now deserted planet. Among them being Ratchet's possible future caretaker, Grim. By the time the war was over, Veldin was already claim by other creatures.
Veldin could've just been a former Lombax territory since most people would prefer living in lush, lively worlds like Kerwan or Novalis where the climate is more comfortable.
And yeah, I believe Grim was the one raised Ratchet and eventually past away, either by illness or tragic accident like a ship crash, natural disasters, freak accidents, break ins, etc. Ratchet was just too young and helpless to live by himself at the point of his arrival. His caretaker probably died when he was still young though, forcing Ratchet to toughen up and survive the streets on his own. That would explain his wild and rebellious nature in the first game. He was brought up like that because its the only way to survive the harsh reality of the universe on his own.
I always love your replies thank you! The first war between the Lombaxes & Craigmites happened eons ago right? So it actually makes sense to think that the Lombaxes did leave it in order to aid in that first war.

I always had the idea of Veldin being a Lombax planet since A Crack in Time. I mean why not right? It just seems much more then a mere coincidence for Kaden to pick a particular desert planet in another solar system to send his son away.
Right! The war happened a long time ago and during that time the Fastoon government would've requested the aid of their brethren over at Veldin. It was said that neither armies on the battlefield were winning, so the Lombaxes of Polaris must had gone desperate and frustrated. They message their brothers over at Solana about the situation and ask for more support to which they agree. Of coarse they would help their fellow Lombaxes over at Polaris! So they would've packed up and move back to Fastoon for military training and recruitments. That leaves Veldin deserted and open for habitation. After the battle was won years later and Veldin was taken over by Solana citizens, they had no need to return to Veldin anymore and decided to just remain on their planet of origin. Then years later the second war happen, and as in reverse to the previous war, Veldin now has a Lombax living in its canyons again whereas Fastoon became deserted. That's how I always see it.
This is late but like, I came up with a similar concept about Grim passing away before Ratchet met Clank for my fanfic skdkdjddjdk

Ratchet's origin story on Veldin has always been a total mystery and that's something I'd like insomniac to elaborate upon in future games. So many unanswered questions, they still haven't explained why Clank's hardware was built in a robotic factory in the Solana galaxy. What purpose did Orvus have to send Clank's software to Quartu? Did he know about Drek's plans? Or did he know that he would bump into Ratchet? Crossed fingers that they'll bail on the reimagine games and continue with the old story.
Ah! The Zoni see into the future and made sure what they saw happened. That explains Clank well technically, Orvus wanted a being capable of defending the great clock aka senior caretaker. The Zoni can't live long in Ratchet's dimension, Orvus wanted someone who could. If they continue with the old story, I would love to see young Ratchet through flashbacks :D
The only thing I can think of is Ratchet's lombax nature. They are pretty much alien cats after all, maybe he had natural feral survival instincts since he was a baby. I dunno, just a thought. Maybe you're just not supposed to know. Yet...
Ask yourself this, why did they come up with Grimroth? Someone who raised him. Yeah, Lombaxes are naturally intellectual, but Ratchet was still a baby.

True felines are born with natural survival instincts, When there babies they watch there parents so they can lean and have protective instants. Cats can even go several days without food.
@@thespyrofans6924 but ratchet had no parents to watch, sure basic survival instincts can get animals to survive in the real world, however in ratchet's universe there are so many unique factors that we rarely see in our world. Extreme weather conditions, apex predictors that would destroy any predictor we have on our planet, and you expect a baby lombax to compete and survive against all that without having any guiding figure to help them learn faster.
Are lombax babies able to identify what food is, what's dangerous to eat, what is suitable shelter, that certain gases are toxic, what animals are dangerous - where the animal's territory is without it being an early game over etc. All that plus the fact that Ratchet as an infant would be as physically able as he is when older.
Even Tarzan needed help from gorillas to survive his infancy - and he is a human, the "smartest" animal on our planet - which wouldn't even happen in real life either.
It's hard to say how realistic it is to say that he could survive such a situation without any evidence of what lombax infancy is like, however it is clear that Ratchet wouldn't of survived the war in his current state, which is why he was sent away.
Does ratchet remember his infancy years at all? If so it might make it slightly more plausible.
I honestly would like to see something where it goes between Ratchet, Kaden, and a younger version of Ratchet for a story. That would make it fairly interesting and answer a few questions.
I'd love Ratchet's backstory, how did he raise himself? Not counting re-imagining.

‘Confirmed 17’ pretty sure it got theory busted that he was 15 due to the devs forgetting something or other and in cutscenes of time between events and between 1 and 3 was roughly a little over 3 years, he was 15 in the first game

One of the developer's said 15 or 17. There is seemingly no concreate answer.
What about the possibility of Ratchet being raised in an orphanage there ? Sure the place has a low population but I bet it still have important buildings like hospitals and such there.
Also what if the age of adulthood in the R&C universe is different from ours. That could explain why he was alone at the beginning of R&C1 (besides the writers not thinking that far ahead yet) it was that he was finally old enough to live on his own.
That could be very likely as well! And you're very right, IG didn't think of other Lombaxes at first. That explains the whole mess with Angela. Theories are theories, and of course there's the realistic side of things. But, it's fun :P

There doesn't seem to be a civilization there, but Ratchet comes across very social. I don't think Insomniac thought too deep about it, to be honest.
They should have included this in the movie the lombax planet being destroyed or they should include kaden and alister oh the next game and movie should be tools of destruction mixed with a crack in time

No, I don't think they should've. It had nothing to do with Drek's scheme and would've made the movie feel even more unfocused. Better to save it for a potential sequel that actually addresses Ratchet's back story.
Insomniac Games doesn't even know where to take the series next. Options:
1. Post ITN (Lombaxes)
2. Post ITN (New Adventure)
3. Post Re-imagining (Going Commando re-imagined)
4. Post Re-imagining (GC + elements of UYA)

I was thinking this... Ratchet could Be the real name of our protagonist... I mean... If Kaden know well the Solana Galaxy thanks to his friendship with Orvus, maybe he wrote on a piece of paper "this is Ratchet, the Only Lombax in the Galaxy. Take care of him, please".
And so Tachion lies during the final boss battle of ToD (although Clank think that Tachion Said the Truth).
I can't imagine that the protagonist of 13 games could change his name. It's Just Crazy, so i believe Ratchet is his real name.
BUT, There is a possibility that Ratchet is a nick-name, as in reality, "Ratchet" is the name of a tool of "ironmonger's shop".
For Who grow up Ratchet in the classic games... We don't know: maybe Orvus oversees on Ratchet... But no idea On this.
But It Is a good idea to think that Orvus predicted the future... Maybe he was already conscious that he is going to build Clank and that Ratchet and Clank Will become friend as Orvus and Kaden were.
on Ratchet galaxy there's a part where the writer from the future series did answer some questions about the series. He said that they wanted to leave out Ratchet's real name in "A Crack in Time" for some reason. But yes we were supposed to know Ratchet's real name in "A Crack in Time"

Even if Ratchet's true name is revealed, I think he'd prefer going with Ratchet. After 13 games, I doubt they're going to switch his name like you said. Some have been saying Lombaxes have natural instincts, where they're capable of surviving on their own. Sure, but Ratchet I think was sent at a very young age, he still needed someone.

The reason why kaden sent ratchet to veldin instead bringing him to the lombaxe dimension because he knew one day his son will stop tachyon and save the galaxy plus your right about one thing the lombaxes did lived on veldin long ago thats why you can see so much technology they made
Hmm....I mean if all Lombaxes went to a different dimension, why wouldn't Ratchet as well? When the Lombaxes left, did they care what havoc Tachyon would bring to their former dimension? I feel as though Ratchet remaining here was due to different circumstances.

Well I have a couple of thoughts as to why Ratchet was sent to Veldin. It is stated many times in the game series that Veldin is a back water planet. It is one that not a lot of people know about as when Ratchet tells someone he's from Veldin, they have no idea what planet he's talking about. The planet only became known because Ratchet became a hero. I do believe that Kaden knew of Veldin because of what you mentioned in the video. But I think Kaden was banking on the fact that Tachyon didn't know anything about Veldin. Which meant it was the safest place for Ratchet to go to get away from Tachyon. And it was clear that Tachyon didn't know about Veldin because he never thought to even look there from Ratchet until Ratchet made his name known. As to why Kaden didn't go with his son....well someone had to stay behind to distract Tachyon until everyone got away. Alistor even makes a mention to it when he tells Ratchet what really happened. Kaden stayed behind to distract Tachyon so everyone else could get away. Whether he was able to escape or Tachyon killed him, well....it's never confirmed that Tachyon killed Kaden so maybe there's a small chance. Of course this brings up the fact that the other Lombaxes were sent somewhere else. I think the way Kaden's thinking was that there was still a chance that the other Lombaxes could be found by Tachyon later on. He wanted to delay that as much as possible for Ratchet. so he decided to send Ratchet away to a back water planet in hopes that Tachyon wouldn't find him, at least until Ratchet could fight back against him. And it worked. Tachyon didn't find Ratchet until he was already a hero and was able to fight against him,. Of course that's just my thoughts on it. Could be wrong.

The 2016 Ratchet and Clank reimagining and the movie aren't canon, so I wouldn't take Grimroth as a good answer for who raised Ratchet.
Given the similarities between Fastoon and Veldin, it makes me wonder if it was just an unspoken part of the backstory of R&C that Veldin was essentially the Lombax homeworld prior to the new lore introduced in the Future games. Just one of those quirks of the Ratchet games that goes unexplained, like Clank and his stream of ladybots, but the devs just agree that it's what the score was. Maybe just saw no point putting it in a game till the Future games actually focused intensely on Ratchet and Clank's personal backstories.
But when we start getting into aspects of the story like Azimuth and Kaden it begins to feel more and more like the Future games saw the originals as troublesome baggage rather than as part of a cohesive universe where these stories were taking place. Hence the holes and stretches in the lore between the old games and new games. A facet that the new Remake universe appears to be emulating.

Veldin probably was a lombax planet because the main Veldin towers in UYA were officially designed (by IG) after the shape of lombax ears. (Of course let's not forget that it's because back in 2005 there was not backstory about Ratchet and his species' past, and Veldin was most likely the homeworld of the lombax race)

Wait a minute! What if Veldin was a mining site for the Lobaxes? That was probably where they found Tachyon, right? Tachyon might have not known about this place because he was never told about it! Right? No?
Lombaxes mined trillium on planet Zaurik. So Tachyon was most likely found on Zaurik.
VTNVIVI No he was discovered as an egg on the Kreeli Comet by Lombax Miners according to IRIS.
It was not an industry standard back then to populate levels with unnecessary NPCs (the ones who would not give you missions). So, Veldin seems deserted because Insomniac did not care to put any of the supposed inhabitants in the actual level.
You can assume they hid after mildly terrifying robots invaded.
Now we're looking at this from a lore/theory side of things, not from the realistic obvious side.
Of for f**s sake! Can't we just protest to InsomniacGames to make the final R&C game with Ratchet reuniting with his race?.

Haha, yes apart from the Zoni theory, Ratchet was piloting for the first time and crashed. The way IG worded it, ''why he crashed it on Novalis'', I mean they were going to Novalis, he didn't decide to crash it, it just happened due to his lack of experience. Although Zoni theory sounds far-fetched, think of how they're able to spread their energy across the galaxy, that lightning strike at Quartu in the re-imagining is a nice visual representation.
I think he picked Veldin just because it has a similar climate and environment to Fastoon. Best place to stick is son is somewhere similar to home, right?
As for who raised him? No clue. Maybe cyclophic monkeys a la Quark.

My headcanon is that it's a case of best laid plans going awry. Kaden may have wanted to get his family safely through the portal, but due to his duties as guardian of the Dimensionator he had to make sure everyone else made it through first. However when he discovered his wife and child were not among those that escaped he went back only to discover his family's house had collapsed from Tachyon's assault and Ratchet's mother died shielding her son from the roof caving in. Not a very dramatic death, but a meaningful one. Kaden may have also been forced to smash the only Dimensionator to stop Tachyon's forces following the lombaxes: choosing the many over the few and thus having to find another way to save Ratchet. It's also possible Kaden died stalling for time while the rocket launched.
Veldin having lombax technology is interesting as I really just assumed that Kaden set the rocket to send Ratchet to the furthest inhabited planet on whatever fuel it had. Fastoon and Veldin having similar climates just being the universe's ironic sense of humor.
It's possible that Ratchet grew up in an orphanage or the one who raised him died before the series began. I can easily see a caretaker at an orphanage saying: "I can't give him the same toys as the other children, he just immediately starts trying to take them apart."
Lombaxes are naturally curious when it comes to technology, but Ratchet didn't know how to build a ship, he was using a step by step guide from Gadgetron's help desk girl. He crashed on Novalis because he was a rookie pilot who had never flown before and didn't know how to slow down or land properly. How he survived the crash is a better question.
Clank said he detected no lie in Tachyon's voice so he might have known it. I'm more curious as to why Alister didn't seem to know Ratchet's true name being Kaden's best friend and all. I guess Insomniac didn't want to chance coming up with a name we didn't like.

Weird. TJ Fixman could still have revealed the name in the interview, but maybe he thought Insomniac would change it later on. I don't see what the harm is in knowing it now.
If the toads helped him then the first level is a huge betrayal on Ratchet's part.
Yeah to get more into detail, Kaden was the keeper of the device and made sure it didn't end up in the wrong hands. Like you said, he made sure everyone made it through first. He refused to leave his family behind while also keeping the device with him. He was too late, his wife was dead and Kaden hid the dimensionator, he could have been friends with Apogee and told him to relocate it on Jasindu...but it's theorized that Angela and Apogee used the device to flee, you hid it later??? Also, the device can be taken with you as we was with Tachyon in Tools. Therefore, Kaden could have still escaped with his son and take the device with him... There's something mysterious here...

I'm pretty sure they're scrapping the old timeline, but I don't think Ratchet needed someone to look after him. If he had a father or mother figure, he would most likely know his own name. The fact that he calls himself Ratchet is most likely because it's his favorite tool. He's not very creative with names as he calls his robot friend "Clank" after hitting him on the head
I believe someone named him Ratchet seeing as how he always used it. Ratchet was too young to remember his true name.

VTNVIVI agreed after I saw the movie this has been on my mind for a very long, how come Insomniac didn't tell details or show scenes of Ratchet's childhood and I think Insomniac should come up with something like for the next game whether the next game will be based on the original or the re-imagining? Well when ever your orphan it's pretty munch live and fight for your food or die, my theory is maybe the toads around that place helped him collect food for him. I mean there were a lot of toads around Ratchet's place.
It only makes sense for Kaden to Send Ratchet to veldin, who knows maybe ratchet did end up having to raise himself, maybe not all Lombaxs are the same🤔 maybe ratchet could be different from the other Lombaxs that Kaden believed he could survive on his own just a leap of Faith

Vivi, I have a theory. I think Fastoon wasn't a desert at all but what we see of Fastoon on Tools of Destruction is after decades of being destroyed and deserted. Also they could make ratchet think grimroth died but really he was captured and in the next gane ratchet could find out he is alive and rescue him.
Good point! Now it'd be quite hard to think that Grimroth was captured all these years.
I know this is a late comment compared to video release, but my assumption to what gave Ratchet the motivation to be a mechanic aside from just a wish to explore/travel was actually Captain Qwark. After all back then Qwark constantly claimed weapons and tools that were of his own making, even if they obviously weren't. We know that Ratchet was a fan and its not hard to assume he had no means of watching or listening to something that probably had Qwark spouting rubbish.
Assuming Ratchet was also a little younger when he first heard about this stuff with Qwark, Wouldn't be hard to imagine he'd want to make his own tools and gadgets like his 'hero'
