How would you handle another tough job like this one? Poor lady is way in over her head! Again the previous mechanics took her money and didn't fix her boat issues instead they may have created more issues.

This would make a good candidate for someone to plant it in their property and have it for a spare bedroom but the problem is the cost of moving something that big you’d have to give it away or maybe even pay somebody the boats that I am looking at right now, or that big or a little bigger with some of them have two brand new motors in excellent shape with everything working, and they’re almost giving boats away so I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I know you are a boat professional I’ve been working on boats for the majority of my life 63 years, but either way it’s sad. Hopefully she can put a lien on the peoples property that stole from her.

Two mechanics abandoned the situation. I wouldn't touch it without a significant deposit in advance. There is more to that story than she is telling. I would stay ahead of her on the money the whole way through if I did take it. Been on the losing end of those too many times. A lot of people that own boats that never had the money for a boat to begin with. You are not in the business of insuring people's poor decisions.

Had a Marine Trader and later a Pursuit at the US Naval Base Boca Chica for some years. Be advised..it is nearly impossible to find and trust a "mechanic". Anyone can call themselves a mechanic, but view really know what they are doing..and at $200 plus per hour, the cost can just magnify exponentially. This guy seems very competent and trust worthy. Think twice before buying a boat you cannot tow behind you vehicle.

People don’t realize how much work fixing up a boat can be. I bought an Intrepid that was 17 years old when I bought it. It was in pretty decent shape and passed a sea trial survey. I’ve still spent a ton of money and countless hours getting her back to her former glory. If I had to hire someone else to do everything, forget it! It’s cheaper to buy a new one. Looked at a cheoy lee 53 motor sailer. 28 frozen thru hulls, many disconnected hoses in engine room, raw water strainers held in place by hoses alone, rudder rotten, skeg moved an inch when rudder was given a 2 finger shake, deck/hull delam, bulwarks attached over dryrot with 5200, all plumbing bright green, signs that the engine room had been flooded. Thats a partial list. I wrote 11 pages of defects. I was told by the broker that she only needed a valve adjust and she was ready to sail from Annapolis to Seattle. Told the broker that if it was floating in a duck pond, I would be in my survival suit and in the life raft. Asking price 200,000. The skeg and rudder were repaired (probably with 5200 looking at the quality of the previous repairs) and some poor chump bought her for 185,000.

I got one for ya! 1990 or so off brand overseas built aft cabin- got the stb running gear ripped right off on the jettys- yard spent tons removing cutting re glassing where the stb strut was to go, it also ripped the stb ZF gear in half! However replacement gear takes a different coupling, bell housing won't mate up to the crusty 3208 Cats, bell housing supposedly no longer available, overall the boat is in terrible shape and the owner abandoned it to the yard. Best thing they could do is cut it up! Sell engines as is if they run.
