Chetty H2O, you are an artist. Fantastic repair. I have a world cat and unfortunately needed this exact repair due high currents when (missing) re-trailering. Fantastic camera work by your wife, too - thanks for wearing a logo shirt in your video so we can find your company info! 😊
if the boat it old u need to cut out 1x1 pop the gel out send it to fiberglass florida they will color match it for u or go spectrum gelcoat for new boat with hull ID
@junkintreasures We use many different sources of Gelcoat. Sometimes we color match it by eye. If it’s a newer boat, then we typically purchase factory Gelcoat with the hull ID. Spectrum Gelcoat and Mini craft are a couple companies that manufactures have outsourced older models of their factory Gelcoat. We also have used Merritt supply and Fiberlay to have them color match the Gelcoat with a small quarter size sample. Good luck!
Seriously beautiful repair. I need to do similar repair on my boat where keel hit when being placed on dry rack. Previous repairs have fallen off down to the fiberglass.
I use your recipe for spraying gel coat with a preval sprayer and small cup, eg. 2oz gel coat (no wax); 1oz patch booster; 2% MEKP. Im getting a lot of orange peel? Any suggestions?
@bubbabigbucks1 You will always have orange peel after spraying Gelcoat, you should apply guide coat and sand them out with 400 then 800 then 1200 and after that process you can compound and polish. Even when spraying with a gun you will still need to sand out, unlike paint unfortunately. The guide coat will really help to see the orange peel and stay within your repair area.
@@ChettyH2O thanks for your reply. You make this process look too easy. I think I need to load the gel coat on more than I have. I’m burning through the repair more often than not.
We like to use Dura Block sanding blocks. They sell them in a kit with different sizes which makes it nice for different angles/areas of the boat. You can buy them on Amazon or auto body stores.
If i were able to email you a few photos of the damage i have could you help me with a few suggestions to fix the damage? It's not on a boat but it's similar damage to the rounded keel shape and on a dune buggy. Can you help?
@@ChettyH2Ohey I don’t know how to email or message people on UA-cam but is there any way you can contact me so I can inquire about you patching the keel of my boat
Worldcat boats are notoriously famous for poor sponson glass. My old boat would Crack and chip down that line even hitting small sticks at idle. Nice repair though
Thank you for being so detailed with this video, im just learning how to do these repairs on my boat and this probably just saved me thousands!!
Good luck with your project, hope these videos help out.

Thank you, we appreciate it! This is very common and we see this all the time.
Damn fine work, very much like the way you prepped and repaired this issue...
Thank you
What is the average cost for repair similar to the one in video.
I been in collision repair 20 years. I'm now getting into gel coat repair. My biggest struggle is getting color matched gelcoat. Where do you get it?

Hey where you get those little screw on bottles for your preval
We get the plastic jars for the Prevals at Marine Trader or Amazon but they’ve been hard to get lately.

Do use the same wool pad for each polishing step?
What is in the spray after sanding guide coat? Just water in the bottle?
Yes, just water
Great video…Do you still do this?
Yes, we have been busy lately and working on some large projects but hope to continue the videos soon
Great process thanks for sharing
@randygreenberg6656 thank you for watching, I appreciate it

If you want factory Gelcoat you can purchase it through your local Robalo dealer with your hull ID they can get the color code.
Great work, please tell me where you located. What state? I will bring my boat to you.
Thank you @chunkyfather29 We are located in Southwest Florida.

Once you started buffing how many different pads did you use
@@bubbabigbucks1 Just one, but I lightly clean it in between compounds
@ChettyH2O will this work on a bathtub?
@@SgtRudySmith31bRet I have heard of others doing this with bathtubs but I have not tried it.
Didn't change to a polishing pad for the polishing step.
Perfect accept you can not get the CERAMTEC unless you are a dealer
About how much in materials?
Materials will vary. We purchase in bulk so it is a lot less expensive and many of these items you can use for several repairs.

Use flow coat, not gel coat.
