  • Heroes of Rock and Roll 1979 Hosted by Jeff Bridges Part 2. This was a documentary which covered the History of Rock n Roll from it's inception up until about early 1979. Starting with Little Richard and Elvis Presley, it works up to The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. A fun film to watch and remember fond times with. It also has some nice rare footage of the Rolling Stones. Originally an ABC FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES production.

Join The Club. I was 13 when I first saw this Documentary. So much History but I didn't know it at the time. Think about, Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers where the First Boy Band in Music who was a major influence on both Smokey Robinson & Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes. Alan Freed gets "burned" for The Payola Scandal. Do you think he did it though. He worked with the Cream of the Crop of R & B but did help them get "Paid". Malcolm Leo & Stephanie Bennett are Wizards for doing Music Documentaries. This One, The Compleat Beatles, Two On The Beach Boys and they digitally remastered The Ed Sullivan Show's Rock Classics If it were up to me, I would love for every future Boy Band look at Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers and see how it was "really" done back in the day. The Cadillacs were a major influence on Otis Williams of The Temptations when he saw them as a Teenager at The Fox Theater in Detroit, MI.

In the movie Goodfellas when we first see Robert DeNiro's character Jimmy Conway, they play the song "Speedoo" by the Cadillacs. It always bothered me, I knew I had heard it somewhere before. This is it: The Heroes of Rock 'N' Roll. I watched it one night with the whole family.

This was the First Time at 13 I saw Harlem and The Apollo Theater. This Year marks the 35th Anniversary of it's reopening. When they did The TV Special with Bill Cosby so many of the acts are no longer with us and may they all rest in peace.

Thanks for posting this, I think is one of the best documentaries about R&R that I've seen.. & since The Big Lebowski Jeff Bridges (a great actor since The Last Picture Show) has the perfect credentials to present it! The thing is: someone else has posted this too, but both of your uploads have parts missing. His doesn't have the whole of your Part 1, but Bill Haley (with phenomenal footage from a German gig) & Chuck Berry are totally missing from yours! What's going on?

  • @kidcalabria

Oh yes! I almost forgot! From yours the whole bit about the rise of Elvis is missing too! It has some early footage of him playing live, moves and all, and the public going crazy! But don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining! Thanks for posting this!

Thanks for posting. This was the very first rock n' roll documentary I ever saw. Got me hooked on the '50's and made me regret being born too late! Great stuff.

It's funny to think that there was a time when jeans weren't considered "proper school attire" or whatever. I remember someone telling me that jeans didn't become fashionable until the 70's. Before that, you only wore jeans if you were engaged in some kind of physical labor (e.g. working on a farm) or were "from the wrong side of the tracks".

Here's another fun fact. When Smokey Robinson's Group then known as The Matadors auditioned to be Jackie Wilson's Opening Act they were rejected because they were too much like The Platters. Smokey's then Wife Claudette was in The Group at the time. Blessing because while Smokey became a Multi Millionaire Jackie died a vegetable without a Penny to his name.

There was a Story behind "Let's Go To The Hop". It was originally Titled "Do The Bop" but Dick Clark The Host Of American Bandstand encouraged them to change the Words & Title and a Hit was born. Unfortunately it was their only Hit Record.

Does anyone know where a full copy can be obtained? I used to watch this off of a betamax recording as a young child and just discovered that this was it - I'd mistakenly thought it was called "25 Years of Rock n' Roll" as that is what it had been labeled. The tape I had is long gone.

Old man are you crazy , bill haley didnt start anything because he came along around 1956 with elvis but blacks created and were singing it in 1952 so you are dead wrong as usual white man trues to take over and capitalize on what blacks created !

@@cozycool3505 Exactly. He was in the right place at the right time. He also like alto of White Artists still even do to this day take Old School R & B Songs and do "Cover" Versions. He covered Big Joe Turner's "Shake Rattle & Roll". The UK Boyband/Girlbands cover songs by Chic, Dan Hartman, The Pointer Sisters amongst others.
