  • Heroes of Rock and Roll 1979 Hosted by Jeff Bridges Part 4. This was a documentary which covered the History of Rock n Roll from it's inception up until about early 1979. This one features The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, the kinks, dave clark 5, the animals, the yardbirds. A fun film to watch and remember fond times with. It also has some nice rare footage of the Rolling Stones. Originally an ABC FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES production.

My dad had this recorded on his VCR when it was new and I watched it a million times over the years into the early 80s

I am from Syria and i remember renting this documentary back in 1980 to try my parents new VCR! I've rented it more than 30 times ever since (couldn't record it!) just to watch Elvis & 50's R&R stars. I was probably one of the only five Elvis (Syrian) fans back then! Today i am the only one! That documentary was a blessing and still is. Couldn't find it anywhere. Many thanks for uploading it!

Ahh brings back memories. Remember sitting in my parents living room with a tape recorder recording this very segment and this segment only. Listened to it over and over. Was going thru what would be a life long Rolling Stones fascination. Some Girls had just came out. Shadooby!!!

This was the first video of the Rolling Stones I watched, I was about fourteen, maybe. For my next teen party I wore a jacket, no shirt and shoeless. This is the spirit of rock and roll. From that time up to date, the Rolling Stones are my favorite band.

Thanks for uploading this. Remember my dad taping it off TV when I was a kid. Got me into the Stones and they're still one of my favourite bands. Think Jumpin' Jack Flash is the best rock 'n roll song ever and that promo for it is great.

I was waiting for a good response on these postings with 4 or 5 star ratings before I posted more. I'll post the other ones when I get a chance. Thanks.

I was a huge KISS fan as a kid, and I remember David Bowie came right before KISS on this show. I think it was the video for Ashes to Ashes by David Bowie with the tractors following behind him, then KISS came on with Rockin' in the USA. I hope you're posting part 5 so I can see if memory serves me correctly.

I was right about KISS coming right after David Bowie, and the KISS song being Rockin' in the USA, but I was wrong about the video with the tractors. Thanks so much for posting this! You brought me back to a time long ago forgotten when I used to tape these kinds of shows on audio tape and listen to them over and over. Thanks again!!!! (this is in reference to part 6)

Also alot of these groups appeared on Dick Clark's Where The Action Is however, many of them had to do it Via Satellite where it would be one pm in los angeles but 6 pm in London.

it really is a great 25th anniversary special for rock n roll music. it's just a shame half of it was taken off or blocked from youtube viewers due to copyright claims. which leads to the following request. i've been meaning to ask this for years and if i already asked it before i'm asking it again, is it possible for you to make a personal copy of the special in it's entirety, uncut, unedited, containing commercials, promos, bloopers, deleted scenes, all of it on a DVD and possibly mail it to Steven Goldman 7 Cobblestone Drive Medway, MA, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE SPECIAL IN IT'S COMPLETE, ORIGINAL, UNCUT GLORY, BUT UA-cam IS NOT THE PROPER NOR IS IT THE SAFEST OR MOST LEGAL WAY TO SEE THIS WONDERFUL DOCUMENTARY. FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH, I'M QUITE A ROCK N' ROLL PERSON MYSELF, I LOVE ROCKIN' OLDIES, I KNOW ALMOST ALL THE SONGS BY HEART, I PLAY CHROMATIC HARMONICA, I'VE SEEN MANY CONCERTS FROM THE PLATTERS TO ROGER WATERS TO BUDDY GUY TO THE ROLLING STONES AT FENWAY PARK AND I WAS ACTUALLY TAKING MUSIC LESSONS AT A POINT IN MY LIFE AND UNDERSTANDING MUSIC THEORY AND READING THE NOTES. IN ADDITION I'VE DOWNLOADED SEVERAL VIDEOS OF PERSONAL INTEREST, LOTS OF THEM RELATING TO MUSIC, SONGS, BANDS AND THE HISTORY OF ROCK N ROLL, BUT ONE ELUSIVE VIDEO THAT I DON'T HAVE IN MY DATA BASE LIBRARY IS THE HEROES OF ROCK N' ROLL 1979 WITH JEFF BRIDGES IN IT'S UNEDITED ENTIRETY. SO IF YOU PLEASE AND IF YOU CAN, PLEASE FIND SOME WAY TO SEND ME THE COMPLETE SPECIAL ON A READABLE FORMAT EVEN IF IT'S ON VHS TAPE. USE ANY MEANS NECESSARY IF YOU HAVE TO, BUT THIS SPECIAL IS TOO GOOD, TOO IMPORTANT TO BE UNSEEN BY HUMAN EYES.

What wa sso sad was that although The British Invasion was a force to be reckoned with it was at the Expense of alot of other Folks especially Black Artists and Girl Groups. With the exception of the chosen few at Motown, most notably The Supremes no Girlband continued their success. "I'm Into Something Good" was origianly recorded by The Exciters of Tell Him Fame. They got their name from the Cartoon Series Bullwinkle where Mr. Peabody had a "Boy" named Sherman thus the name. Another thing that made UK Groups different from US Groups was that they were more open in acknowledging they were heavily influenced by Black Artists most notably Little Richard as well as Chess Artists like Chuck Berry, Howlin Wolf, Jimmy Reed, and Bo Diddley.

The line about by Popular Acclaim the Stones we the world's greatest Rock and Roll band by the end of the 60s is a BS line used to endorse them because they were still together at the time and one that was started by the Stones self proclaimed comments. The 68 and 69 biggest albums by far were The Beatles White Album and Abbey Road. The biggest single was Hey Jude. The Stones were NEVER bigger than the Beatles at any point in their careers, while both were bands.

The World's Greatest Rock and Roll band stuff was just silly. Sam Cutler introduced that band as The Greatest Rock and Roll Band In The World on their American tour in 1969, and from what I understand the band didn't like it. I pay it no mind. However, there may have been spurts when the Stones were selling more records than the Beatles when they had a big hit single like "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" (number 1 song in over 30 countries and continents) and a few other hit singles, but the Beatles always ended up back on top.
