It’s too bad that Bungie weren’t able to give us their original vision for The Library where it was this massive corkscrew that spiraled down and you’d see your goal at the bottom. You also had Flood jumping up and down from the different levels to get to you. If the CE remake is real I’d want them to give us that, but also throw in some Covenant squads that are also after the Index, and introduce the cut flamethrower. That would dramatically improve the WORST level in the game.
I’d also want Two Betrayals to be a largely aerial mission set on a different section of the Ring. I’m fine with Keyes and The Maw reusing level geometry since there’s a narrative reason to return to those locations, and the Flood change how they’re played. But, there was NO REASON to make us go through what was already the longest level in the game backwards. Ruby’s Rebalanced did a good job of making it feel more varied, but it would’ve been better if the Ring’s firing systems were located somewhere else.
Something interesting about the name Two Betrayals is that it’s a leftover from when Bungie planned on having Cortana go mad with power after being inside the Ring for an extended period of time. Thankfully, they didn’t go there. Sure am glad that we wouldn’t later get a dumpster fire from 343 where Cortana turns evil and they’d have to overcorrect in Infinite (removing Prometheans from almost everything going forwards and just hand waving the Created plot point. An ai uprising could’ve been interesting if 343 actually understood that Rampancy went by the Marathon definition. Speaking of Marathon, the trilogy is on Steam for free thanks to the Aleph One community adding it using the source code that Bungie released years back). That would sure be a disaster.

That does sound like a major improvement for The Library. An aerial battle on Two Betrayals would have been awesome. Yeah the title of the level always confused me.

In my mind I imagine this hypothetical Two Betrayals reimagining as being like that one CE multiplayer map where there’s a big bridge in the middle, has a few walkways/rooms on the sides, and a lot of open space for flying (terrible with names, so I don’t know what it’s called. It’s one of those things where you’ll know it when you see it, and has been used in several custom mission mods).

I also forgot to mention that for the reimagined Library even if it was still inside the Ring they could have the Covenant moving troops and vehicles in through the Ring’s teleporters like they did in Ghosts of Onyx (that book was phenomenal).

The library was alright but it just got repetitive since we didn't see any covenant here but tone wise its alright but for Two Betrayals the Covenant vs the flood is with humanity fighting 2 enemies instead of one. Despite the issues/problems the Prophet of stewardship had been causing sending teams to Threshold/Basis for artifact retrieval though with the disaster of the Infinite Succor and Rtas Vadumee being the only survivor and giving Thel the report though this civil dispute between the supreme commander and Minor prophet leading to the future war The Great Schism event and the downfall of the Covenant.

I think the main reason The Library is so horrible is its repetitiveness. Two Betrayals is kind an ingenious way to reuse assets from previous levels. This was definitely a necessity due to end of development crunch.

I really like these videos, but I am kind of disappointed that you haven’t really been including Fireteam Raven stuff. Then again, barely anyone played the thing, and various elements don’t really mesh with CE or its novelization. Haven’t played the thing, but I did watch a play through and Halo Canon/Xperia’s videos about it. Those characters have interesting back stories, but none of it is presented through the actual game. I’d be fine with the fabled CE remake that may or may not be real including them if done right.

I’ve played it a little bit, but I didn’t find it too interesting and I honestly didn’t want to bloat the halo CE recap vids more than I had to. I felt like people might be more inclined to tune these videos out since they’ve played the game before.

    • @shreksnow1918

Yeah, that makes sense. That probably would make the videos feel kind of rambly/aimless. Also, the Fireteam Raven characters/events of the game definitely fall into the category where they’re mostly interesting in concept, but not the actual execution (if the Halo show was a mini series that juggles the plots of CE and the surrounding material they could better flesh out those characters, and show the Covenant’s perspective. But, that sadly wasn’t what we got from that dumpster fire).
