  • One of the most important things that you can learn in skating or any other risky sport is how to fall the right way. I am by no means a professional inline skater, but I do have many years of experience in falling from my background in martial arts. Hope this video helps and if you have any questions or suggestions for future videos leave them in the comments below!

'Learn to fall' - I've heard it given as a tip for beginner skaters ever since I started six years ago, but have never, ever seen a video saying how to do it. This is a first, so big, big thanks 👍👍👍

Its super cool getting your martial arts perspective on this, the control you need for MA is completely different than the control you need to blade, but there is a lot of over lap. Loving this content man!

you sir are a life saver. I have learning rollerblading and it has become pretty clear that if I don't learn how to fall properly I'll break my hips. thank you so much for this tutorial

Thanks for this I studied martial arts since a kid on and off
The importance of knowing how to fall can actually save your life it has for me
First thing I would learn a shoulder roll from karate and have it ready when you need it
I guess I was lucky to learn

I feel so old watching this. Great content though! I skated for 10 years as a kid with no serious injurious somehow (i rollerbladed(main sport), skateboarded and did bmx). Mostly street stuff with big gaps and sketchy rails. Guess i was lucky. Now im 30 and just straped on rollerblades for the first time in 10 years today and it felt so weird. My body cant move and jump the way it used to. Im a bit scared of getting a bad injury now that i have a job and adult responsibilities. So this video is what i didnt know i needed till i randomly came across it.

Also a suggestion: Find a parkour gym (if possible) and take the basic intro classes. They emphasis falling before giving any movement lessons. That's what I did many years ago as a refresher on falling. Good video and I liked the illustrative overlays.

Oddly, when I took several parkour classes they never taught falling at all. They were very good at instructing the parkour techniques, so I never took a spill, but concern for crashing-down is why I stopped learning parkour - the possibility of significant injury was too great. Had a great time doing it, but the danger was real.

Im a martial artist and a inline skater and i teach the same thing.
    Bonus tip.
    Get impact resistant gloves.
I use full gloves that cover the whole hand, and yes, even the fingers, those are important too.
Buy the ones that dirt bike riders use like Hart brand or something.
Gloves and learning to fall are essential. I dont wear any other gear but i ALWAYS wear layers to avoid road rash if the worst happens.
    Your clothes are your armor.
Yes its hot but id rather work up a sweat that a injury

    • @alexoleksa7743

How do i fall when grinding on a rail? Or how would you catch yourself to not get hurt too much?

    • @alexoleksa7743
      @alexoleksa7743  Рік тому +4

Thats a tough one! My thought is to always spread as much contact as possible over the rail if i'm falling on top of it (like going left or right means death). If i have a choice i try to fall away from the rail slightly to slide or roll out on the surface if its not too treacherous. Thanks for the question! I might have to make a part 2 to this vid for things like transition and rails.🤝🙏

    • @alexoleksa7743

Well because I fell forward and tried to use my hands to stop me. Instead, I should have pulled them in and rolled over the shoulder to dissipate the energy.

@@alexoleksa7743 ohhh wow okay, see I was looking at it from one angle. Seeing you twist your legs and hips the way you did. I was confused on how landing safely would even be possible. I didn’t think of tucking in and rolling. That seems like a better solution for less damage. 🙏🏽 good thinking.
