I think Erwin will choose Armin and Armin will choose Erwin. Erwin: He let Armin lead the search in the walls and compliments him. This means that he considers Armin's potential. Erwin also accepted his fate and said "We die trusting the living who give meaning in our sacrifice".
For Armin, of course, he respects Erwin so much. He knew that he will never be as good as him. Until now, we can observe how Armin still compares himself to Erwin when it comes to decision-making.
They both have amusing dreams. They are both ready to sacrifice their dreams for the sake of humanity. They are both ready to give the syringe to each other if they had a chance. What makes them different is their leadership. Erwin has intelligence with guilt while Armin has intelligence with doubts.

The ironic thing about this decision, is that after all of the arguments on who would be better for humanity - none of that mattered. The decision was ultimately made purely based on emotions by all sides. Eren and Mikasa wanted to bring their friend back, disregarding humanity’s future. No matter what reasons they brought up, their connection to Armin was the deciding factor. And on the other hand, Levi, who was trusted to make a logical decision on the fly, chose Armin only because of his connection to Erwin. Levi didn’t decide who will live, he decided who will die. He saw how enslaved Erwin was to his dream. How it took over his life. What would’ve happened if he reached the basement? He doesn’t even know. His life has one end goal, and there’s nothing after that. So Levi decided to set him free, to let him pass on.
I think it’s valid to discuss who would’ve been the better choice, but personally I think the point of that scene is that it doesn’t even matter.

Erwin cukup mampu mencegah perpecahan diantara orang-orang. jikalau memang erwin nantinya merasa hampa setelah menggapai mimpinya, aku yakin dia akan tetap menjadi komandan yang hebat karena pasti dia akan terus mengingat para prajurit yang gugur

    • @a_kmza
      @a_kmza 2 місяці тому +1

it was an emotional decision on his part true and he did it so that his friend could be laid to rest and no longer be forced to play the role of devil that everybody viewed him as, however it also makes sense from Levi's perspective. When comparing their dreams and taking into account what Kenny said to him he realised that once Erwin had seen the truth in the basement there was a chance he simply would lose interest beyond that. The dream he was a slave to was in reach and Erwin himself admitted it. Everything he did, all the plans he came up with and all the steps forward they made thanks to him was in service of reaching this dream so once he had achieved it there was no clear plan beyond that. Maybe he would simply lose that certain aspect that pushed him forward and made him such a great commander since in his mind he already got what he wanted, there was no further reason to try as hard. Meanwhile with Armin he had his eyes set outside the walls. He has proven that he has humanities interest at heart as well. His dream takes him further than just the basement and the truth but to the seas and ultimately they need someone with the drive to go further rather than a commander who might possibly phone it in.

I think what makes this episode so interesting is the fact that you can make countless arguments for either Armin or Erwin being a good choice. You can argue that while Ewrin was the more experienced commander, his goal only reached the basement, while Armin's reached the sea and the whole outside world. Or that while Armin is young and smart, no one can touch the hearts of their soldiers quite as well as Erwin. It's so fascinating that the dilemma in this episode is still talked about even years after it was released.

People also are quick to dismiss Erwin’s significance because they are more attached to Armin and want him to live. In my eyes that’s just missing why this decision is difficult and there can be points made for both the characters. I see a lot of people comparing the plans against Beast titan and Colossal titan without taking into account how different those situations were and both Armin and Erwin gave it their all. I love both Armin and Erwin and it really is unfortunate to lose either of those but Erwin had made his peace and suffered enough guilt. It was time for him to go.

S3 with bringing down the government. If you think about it in a war sense, we didn't know Marley would leave for 4 years. If they hadn't, how would Armin develop into a leader so soon. There is a big diffrence in how they think tho armin is good at figuring out stuf but erwin is the one that planed ahead and saw what could happen because of the amount of military expiriance that he had so for me this is a big mistake even tho i wanted armin to get it but when emotions are involved you are bound to make mistakes

So many people try to argue that Mikasa only cares about Eren, but that's so clearly not true. She is literally crying her eyes out and screaming at the chance to bring Armin back. She's willing to fight humanity's strongest on the slim chance that Armin would get to live again. And when it looks like that's not going to happen, she looks completely and utterly defeated.
Eren was willing to risk his life for Armin back during episode 5 of S1. And now Armin returned the favor. And we see how much it's broken Eren. He barely speaks above a whisper and he pleads with Levi to bring Armin back. Because Armin was the one who gave him his dreams of freedom. Armin was the one who told him about the outside world. About the sea.
Moblit is very underrated. And he went out protecting Hange until the end. And the last thing Hange saw with her other eye was him burning away to save her. R.I.P. Moblit.
On a side note, I definitely respect Bertolt for what he believed in and that awesome OST he brought. R.I.P. Bert. You'll always be the Colossal in my heart. Our original poster boy who finally found his confidence near the end. Also, it's commonly theorized that the reason he calls out for everyone in the end is that when he wakes up, he's still pretty out of it(possible due to blood loss). Then he remembers the situation he's in and calls out for Annie and Reiner.
And as for Floch, he may sound annoying, but Erwin coming up with that plan was the only reason the Beast wasn't able to get over the wall and obliterate the rest of the scouts with his throwing ability. He provided them the opportunity for victory while being at a disadvantage(due to Monke Man being skilled at long range fights due to his lanky arms). Erwin overthrew the Government and made the plans that allowed everyone to get to this point. Erwin sacrificed his arm to save Eren. Floch doesn't really know Armin, so saving a random scout with potential over a commander with known ability seems crazy to him. But also, carrying Erwin over an entire field just to be told you did that for nothing has to feel really crappy. And so, Floch is the lone survivor of that charge.

People argue that mikasa only cares about eren due to the manga adaptation. In the manga, mikasa is shown to care a bit more about other but WIT studios were such eremika fans that they cut most of her good dialogues with 'Ereh'.
Like in the fight with Annie in the trost district, in the manga mikasa thought to herself that its her fault that levi got hurt fighting the female titan and they lost their best soldier so with that in mind she believes she must be the one to take down Annie to make up for it. But in the anime?
"Annie i won't let you have ereh" was all she said.

Yeah I’ve read the manga and Mikasa does care for others. But still remains that Mikasa always butheads with Levi and and whoever is against Eren and Armin. It got in my nerves by season 2 and season 3 it got more annoying. I wish by season 4 Mikasa would have changed more but at least she got a good ending for her character.

It's funny how Montana says "It feels right" to revive Armin, as Armin himself said similar things like he has a gut feeling or has a hunch.
