  • Brown trout fly fishing in small streams is exciting. Hunting brown trout is a game of poking about the likely holding water in a trout stream, looking for a rising brown trout, spotting the brown trout or prospecting. Stalking rising and cruising brown trout takes on a whole new level of fly fishing in trout streams and in this video, the first episode of season 2 of our As It Happens series, we join Ashley & Amber at Maruia Motels in New Zealand. A chance meeting led to us fishing together on several streams near their motel. This is the first of 4 days together and we had to apply some advanced small stream tactics in order to be successful. Look for the next episode next Saturday morning or in our As It Happens 02 playlist.
    At our website we offer a free e-mail course on fly fishing small-medium trout streams that leads to our in-depth signature series course on that same topic. To take part in that course please go to our website.

    Every time I watch your videos, I am motivated to at least lawn cast. Every time you come to us from NZ, I become hopeful for a return trip before I’m 70! (5 year countdown...). Thanks for the pleasurable videos and helpful explanations.

    Thank you for taking the time to highlight the takes. So many videos are cut to drift, cut to set, cut to netting. The take of the fly is by far the best part. Slow mo takes/ real time sets and runs!

    Outstanding video. I find I have to watch most of these twice. Once in a state of awe over the surroundings, admiration of your technical abilities stalking/casting/presenting the fly, and with a bit of jealousy over not being there myself. The second time I’m able to concentrate on the actual teaching points being made trying to commit them to memory for my next time on the water.
    Also, if Ashley were Canadian he would have known how to play goaltender with the net in front of that logjam on the first fish.

      Ha! Yeah it was hard to know what that fish was going to do all through that time. Ah well! And like you, we too learn along the way - reviewing that missed dry fly eat and examining 'why' it didn't connect was really neat. Thanks again. 😊🍻

      That's NZ tribs in Feb! It rained mercilessly leading into that time frame then the switch turned. A week after this vid was shot there likely would have been a fraction the fish. We'll miss being there this year! 🥺

    Is the increase in pressure on this stream (and others there) due to more people seeking out alternative activities due to COVID, or just an increase in fishing pressure in general?

    • @jensenflyfishing
      @jensenflyfishing  3 роки тому

      Just an increase in pressure in general and more to do with many of the waters in the area having mouse fed fish which tend to get large, hence the draw for anglers.
