Always like seeing the OL get some spotlight because they don't get near enough of the spotlight and credit they deserve because they're the reason that we see the big offensive plays we see today more than anyone else! They contribute to those great plays. When you watch the '88 Bengals and Boomer throwing TD's and Ickey Woods, the time Boomer had to throw and the space Woods had to run, that was Munoz doing what he did best.
My uncle is Ickey Woods. In his rookie year in 1988, he scored 18 total TD's, including three in the playoffs. I'd guess that 14 were behind Anthony Munoz. Having a relative play in the NFL meant being able to watch a team up close. I never paid attention to line play until I watched him run behind big #78. He was the PERFECT LEFT TACKLE. Strong, great feet, fluid, and while not dirty by any stretch, finished plays. Hands down, the most overlooked legend in football history.
Munoz was incredible to watch play. He never seemed to make a mistake, he was always in the right place, shut down the best pass rushers routinely, and made it look easy. Oh yeah, and caught a few TD passes along the way.
Actually should be higher. He routinely shut down the best defensive ends in his era. White and Smith and all of them did zero against this man. He's one of the greatest players ever.
@@xaviervega468 Ah they saw each other a few times Muñoz said White was the best he ever played against. We lost White before he could give his 2 cents on the best.
I won an award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Anthony Munoz came to my school and spoke. My dad has been a Bengals fan for his entire life. That was easily the best day of my life. I got to watch my dad meet his idol. He was so nice. Signed tons of autographs and spoke to everyone. Great guy.
1:14 He's going up against Lee Roy Selmon, HOF, and stopping him in his tracks. A perfect example of the Irresistible Force meets the Immovable Object.
The 1985 bears defense had one player who was the most feared of all. He was edge rusher Richard dent and was considered the hottest edge rusher in the league immediately. Besides being voted All pro for 1985 he also had the really unique honor of being named super bowl MVP in the bears only modern super bowl championship. With the super bowl finished he was on top of the world it seemed like nobody could stop him. Then he went to the pro bowl where the tackle on the other side from him was somebody he had never met named Anthony Munoz. After the game at the press conference a journalist asked him to give his assessment of Anthony Munoz. Richard dent shook his head slightly and said " I couldn't do anything with that guy"
Tee Roberts well Matthews played multiple positions in the trenches and don't forget Roosevelt brown and Jim Parker they could easiest replace Munoz and Ogden.

'Yeah a great Mexican tackle.' He quipped back. 'What the hell are you talking about the greatest tackle of all time is Mexican!' I yelled at him. 'What?' He responded. 'Anthony Muñoz.' At the of the best practice this future all-state player had ever had I asked him 'So how many Anthony Muñoz youtubes did you watch?' 'All of them.'
This list definitley needs revising. Hell Alan Page is the only DL in NFL history to win a MVP and that was at the DT position which is pretty much impossible. An he's all the way down at 43.
I remember when the Bengals played the 49ers in Super Bowl XVI: Fred Dean of the 49ers was the NFC Defensive Player of the Year and Anthony Munoz shut him down. It is amazing how the 49ers won that game.
Both of you are so, so wrong. Especially not Deion Sanders. Sanders was phenomenal in coverage but when someone broke out, his pursuit and tackling was weak.
+TBSandNFL He struggled with nothing. That's why he's 12 on the list. Everyone after 20 is almost perfect in every way. Jerry is #1 because he holds every major career receiving record, and held many others back when he played. Munoz dominated every snap of his career.
