I try not to use them as much as possible. I only bring them up if there's no way to avoid it like in the StarFox64 redo review, or to make fun of them before people can leave those quotes instead of saying something else.
I love watching your videos because you know games so well, have great logic in your analyzing, and your voice is so awesome! Not only do you help prepare me for making games, you remind me why I even want to make games in the first place: to bring forth new, legendary games into the world that people will love to play and analyze to make even better games.
Sceptile honestly didn't get much in Gen VI, however effective physical Unburden Sceptile's are now easier to run with Power Up punch and replacing Fighting gem for Flying gem to help boost Power-Up punch rather than Acrobatics. To be frank it's a good fighting type move to give potential physical sweepers more to strive for because of it's attack boosting ability while supporting a very good type coverage against steely walls that gives the option of Leaf Blade Sceptile something to look forward to.
Oh my god! I love sceptile so much. I use him all the time in my playthroughs of emerald. So many times sceptile is left unnoticed while blaiziken and swampert get all the praise. I'm just so happy he's number one on your list!
Hmm, I love how Mawile is a deceiver with a massive mouth on the back of it's head. Kinda like Girafarig but more my style. Plus Steel is my favourite type.
You my friend has earned my like and favorite for the sole number one pick. Sceptile is not only my favorite in gen 3 but in all of Pokemon :D I thought him Leafblade, Extreme Speed, Solarbeam, Crush Claw .
That's right, here's how it worked. I played through Pokemon Sapphire and recorded it to a DVD since my HD PVR couldn't record it. Then I took the DVD and played it on my PS3 so I could record it from there. The little number is how fast I was speeding up the DVD footage.
Great list as always. ^_^ Gen 3 is my favorite generation so most of my favorite Pokemon are in it. I love Gardevoir the most, then Flygon, Metagross, Mudkip, Tropius and a few others. I love Gen 3. :D
Hearing that part about the first normal pokemon made me realize i am Kinda surprised Snorlax wasnt in the Gen 1 list. I get its all personal opinion. But that seemed like one of The pokemon that everyone liked no matter what.
Great list, I understand most of those entries, but I was really hoping to see Aggron and/or flygon. Aggron is downright my favorite pokemon, mostly due to it's appearance and impenetrable defence, and Flygon is a special pokemon to. I'll elaborate a bit: I am a huge fan of dragons, pokemon or not, and my first pokemon game was emerald. Flygon was the first dragon I ever raised, so you can see why flygon holds a special place in my heart.
Because it wasn't on this list can we all take a moment to appreciate how fucking awesome slaking is? He has the highest base stat total of any Non-legendary pokemon (Not counting mega evolution) he is leagues ahead of the pseudo legendary pokemon people always cling to, Slakoth can be found in one of the first areas in the game and is quickly skyrocketed towards level 36 where you may witness the birth of a god, He has the same base stat as regigigas, REGI- FUCKING- GIGAS!! The colossal Pokemon! But, Regigias has to wait 5 turns before reaching his full potential, But slaking? Oh no. He comes flying out of the gates with an impressive 100 speed to hit you right where it hurts with a massive 225 base power giga impact(With S.T.A.B.) Paired with Slaking's enormous base 160 attack, To leave even the toughest metagross' on their shiny metal ass! In other words slaking hits like a freight train full of bacon and dynamite, and best of all he just does not one single fuck! He'll destroy Drake's Salamance without breaking a sweat and then continue just to turn around and eat his lunch in the middle of battle because why not? Well guess what I'm gonna tell you why not! Because after that there is no battle, THERE IS NO CONTEST! The battle is over all of the other pokemon have fled with no intentions of coming back, or within 1 mile of slaking for that matter. To recap, Slaking is a fucking beast that can destroy anything at anytime and doesn't Show off his power around because he couldn't care less whether or not he's recognized, but make no mistake, Slaking is the greatest of all time with no plans of that changing anytime soon.
Not sure if you read my response to your other comment but just in case no, these are not emulators. Here's what happened. I played through Pokemon Sapphire on my GameBoy Player and recorded it to a DVD since my HD PVR couldn't record it. Then I took the DVD and played it on my PS3 so I could record it from there. The little number is how fast I was speeding up the DVD footage.
great list, i definitely love Sivper waaay more then Zangoose xD Swampert and Sceptile has always been of my fav pokmon as well..hoenn and johto are the only regions where i love all the starters.Kyogre and groudon are two my favs but i love Kyogre more...i just got a Kyogre plushie in the mail today xD Latios is one of my fav Psychic pokemon next to Dexoys, i thought it would be on ur list for sure lol either way i loved it and cant wait next one :) P.S i have a Blaziken with speed boost xD
10. Neat 9. I love it 8. Agreed 7. MY FAVORITE POKEMON!!!! 6. I still prefer Kyogre more, but Groudon is also really awesome 5. I agree 4. Took me 3 YEARS TO OBTAIN. 3. I personally prefer LatiAs, but both of them are great 2. EPIC 1. I thought you were going to say Rayquaza or Deoxys. But this Pokemon is AWESOME!!!!!
Honorable Mention: Gardevoir I love Gardevoir because it has an elegant appearance, has a Japanese name Sirknight, and is my favorite Psychic type Pokemon.
Hoenn is by far my favorite region in Pokemon. Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald are tied as my favorite Pokemon games. The GameBoy Advance SP is my favorite handheld gaming console.
Same here, kid. I just love it and Gardevoir rekindled my love for Pokémon. I ALWAYS name mine Viola. Moves: Calm mind, Psychic, Thunderbolt and Protect.
My favorite Gen 3 Pokémon is Gardevoir. It's extremely OP in Gen 3, learning Psychic at level 26 in its Kirlia stage. While it got changed to learning it at level 40, to this day, it remains as my Psychic Pokémon on my team (and now Fairy too in X and Y).
10 - Sharpedo - Normal and Mega 9 - Aggron - Normal and Mega 8 - Sableye - Just Normal 7 - Metagross - Just Normal 6 - Milotic 5 - Flygon 4 - Blaziken - Normal and Mega 3 - Sceptile - Normal and Mega 2 - Absol - Normal and Mega
My Hoenn list is: 10. Manectric 9. Flygon 8. Metagross 7. Absol 6. Gardevoir 5. Sceptile 4. Blaziken 3. Swampert 2. Milotic 1. Latias When Gen 3 came out, both my sis and I had GBAs so we could trade together. I technically preferred Latias over Latios, mainly it was easier to catch and I ended up getting one with very high special attack. Not much to say about this list except that it was much easier for me to pick my favorites in gen 3 than any other generation.
My Top 10 Favourites) 10: Ludicolo (Good rain sweeper) 9: Gardevoir (A great special attacker, that now gets Fairy Type moves like Moon Blast) 8: Kyogre (Great special attacker) 7: Cacturne (Creepy) 6: Blaziken (1 of 2 non-legendary Ubers) 5: Whiscash (Better than Quagsire, to me) 4: Dusklops (Great walling beast) 3: Groudon (Dat attack & bulk) 2: Deoxys (It's defense form is amazing) 1: Metagross (My favourite Pokemon of all time, it's very powerful, and can learn many great moves)
My list is ALMOST the same. One major difference, however, is that instead of Sceptile, I have Grovyle at number one, for a couple of reasons. First and foremost is that I don't like Sceptile's looks as much as Grovyle's. Second is that Grovyle is an AWESOME villain in PMD Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. It's awesome having the fastest Grass-type in the game be one of your starters, especially when you consider that even today, it's near the top of the list and is tied with Arceus.
10. Heh, zangoose is one of my favorite normal-types. 9. I'm on thin ice with puns too (RRRRRRRRRRR). I honestly prefer registeel. 8. I prefer the earlier evolutions. 7. I'm not the biggest fan of kyogre. I prefer the other weather-affecting legendaries. 6. YES! I like groudon. 5. TOASTY! He's really good. Blaziken should be in smash bros. 4. Not a big fan of Milotic. She's basically a female gyarados. 3.I Like latias, but LATIOS IS MY FAVORITE LEGENDARY, DRAGON-TYPE, AND HOENN POKEMON! 2. One powerful steel-type, he is. 1. I like him too but it's hard for him to get into my team of six.
Hooray for sceptile, groudon, the latis, milotic, and my personal favorite Pokemon ever blaziken. I also remember trying to get to regice. I was decoding it letter by letter and it opened up just as I cracked it
This list just reminded me of how most of my favourite pokemon are gen 3. Metagross, Gardevoir, Milotic, Blaziken, Groudon, Rayquaza. Zangoose had a bad-ass design but I wasn't fond of battling with it. I never managed to evolve my feebas (which I found really easily and had no idea was rare at the time) because after a certain point it wouldn't eat anymore pokeblocks.. being about 99% maxed out on beauty. x(
you are both right, if you have the scale you can just trade evolve, but if you traded over a feebas with max beauty already, just level it up and it will evolve
You pronounced Scald "scaled"! I nearly banged my head on my keyboard hearing that. Great list, though. My favorite Gen 3 Pokemon include Jirachi, Gardevoir, and Plusle and Minun.
I love using Slaking when the circumstances are right. Sceptile is awesome as well. He's my grass type for Gen 3. Torterra is my overall Grass type for all of Pokemon.
This is the last Generation of Pokemon that I actually still KIND OF liked. My favorite Pokemon from Hoenn are Linoone and Kecleon. Some of the other Pokemon I like are: Sceptile, Aggron, Groudon, and Rayquaza.
And in this list are two of the Pokemon I dread fighting. Milotic is a nightmare, and despite being the prettier version of Garydos it is the more destructive of the two. It hits hard, takes forever to kill, and if you don't have an electric Pokemon you will suffer. Metagross is just as hard to kill, and he learns some scary moves. Not only that, Metagross is also just plain intimidating to face.
I love Houenn and a lot of my absolute favorites are from here 10- Masqurain (Thank you Sun and Moon) 9- Flygon (I accidentally called him Google Head instead of Goggle Head) 8- Aggron (Greatbthing you can get early on) 7- Claydol (Loved him in Black 2...even though it's genderless) 6- Rayquazza (do I have to explain) 5- Peliper (Thank you even more Sun and Moon, it's amazing with Drizzle) 4- Armaldo (Nice design and is a savior in a nuzlocke I did) 3- Sharpedo (Great water type and Tate and Aliessa can't touch it) 2- Salamnce (Duh) 1- Sceptile (2nd Favorite starter and awesome design and it's a sweeper)
And No Thank You to Psychic either. Luster Purge and Mist Ball may be slightly weaker but their Special Attacks barely make that even matter, plus both of their signature moves have a 50% chance of lowering a Special Stat.
Technically part of what you said was incorrect. The code for the contests condition stat still exists in FireRed/LeafGreen/HeartGold/SoulSilver/Black/White/Black 2/White 2 and as such Feebas can still evolve via Beauty in those games but there is no way to raise it, so you'd have to bring it over with the Beauty stat already at 170 or higher (which I'd note also isn't max - liike all other stats contest stats take up a full bit meaning they max out at 255 and only 170 is required for Milotic).
I like a lot of 3rd gen pokemon, but my top ten are: 10: Dusclops 9:Tropius 8: Swampert 7: Sceptile 6: Blaziken 5: Altaria 4: Cradily 3: Glalie 2: Metagross 1: Flygon
Sceptile is my favorite Pokémon of all time.
Hello brother. :)
Simon Bonezay I prefer Grovyle he just looks so badass :D
Same here, of course
3DSwordsman yussssss

Hell. Yes.
Now that ORAS is out, the "any special water attack" in Kyogre's move set has basically been replaced with Origin Pulse
But Origin Pulse can miss under normal circumstances, and Surf can't...
Really well made video, entertaining, and had a ton of well executed jokes! Great job! It was just a joy to watch!
I try not to use them as much as possible. I only bring them up if there's no way to avoid it like in the StarFox64 redo review, or to make fun of them before people can leave those quotes instead of saying something else.
10. Swampert
9. Salamence

If anything Sceptile should have got Speed Boost not Blaziken; then again 'Game Freak Customs' at play again
10.Groudon
9.Kyogre
8.Aggron
7.Metagross
6.Swampert
5.Armaldo
4.Regirock
3.Registeel
2.Rayquaza
1.Sceptile
"Come on guys, don't give me the cold shoulder."
It felt a little forced which was another reason I removed it.
Oh my god! I love sceptile so much. I use him all the time in my playthroughs of emerald. So many times sceptile is left unnoticed while blaiziken and swampert get all the praise. I'm just so happy he's number one on your list!
Very nice list Mr Smith. Here's my personal favorite Hoenn Pokemon:

Treecko's line being the number one on this list. You, sir, have just earned my respect and admiration.
Hmm, I love how Mawile is a deceiver with a massive mouth on the back of it's head. Kinda like Girafarig but more my style. Plus Steel is my favourite type.
YAY! Swampert made the list! I hate it how much everyone hates it just because of the "I hear you likez mudkipz" deal. It deserves more praise!

FINALLY THERE IS LOVE FOR SCEPTILE!!!!!!!!!!!! My first and favorite Pokemon of all time.
sceptile is really strong, but almost noone ever choose the grass type in the beginning. its sad
Cause gen 3 ( which is my 2nd favorite gen) was horrible for the treecko line.
You my friend has earned my like and favorite for the sole number one pick. Sceptile is not only my favorite in gen 3 but in all of Pokemon :D I thought him Leafblade, Extreme Speed, Solarbeam, Crush Claw .
I'm already subscribed to Roger. Hooray for being ahead of the curve and in the dark about how the internet works at the time! .....Yaaaay.
I applaud you for adding my starter Sceptile and Zangoose was my second Shiny Pokemon. Good list.
Holy crap, you're one of the few people I've seen who doesn't glorify the hell out of Rayquaza, I thank you for that sir.
That's right, here's how it worked. I played through Pokemon Sapphire and recorded it to a DVD since my HD PVR couldn't record it. Then I took the DVD and played it on my PS3 so I could record it from there. The little number is how fast I was speeding up the DVD footage.

thank you for putting him on the list :)
Hearing that part about the first normal pokemon made me realize i am Kinda surprised Snorlax wasnt in the Gen 1 list.
I get its all personal opinion. But that seemed like one of The pokemon that everyone liked no matter what.
Zangoose is my favorite pokemon of all time :D Thanks for putting him on here :D
1.) Yes it is. 2.) If I had a preference for one over the other then that pokemon would've been on the list instead of tying.
Great list, I understand most of those entries, but I was really hoping to see Aggron and/or flygon. Aggron is downright my favorite pokemon, mostly due to it's appearance and impenetrable defence, and Flygon is a special pokemon to. CJ, your ice puns are amazing and I appreciate them
Did you hear the stats my Sceptile had? I can't do that without EV training. Plus I brought it up in the Pokemon Black2 review.
HOLY CRAP there's someone else who likes Sceptile over the other starters in Hoenn! Never thought I'd see that!
4 ice puns on the 9th entry. That's just cold.
Honorable Mention: Gardevoir
I love Gardevoir because it has an elegant appearance, has a Japanese name Sirknight, and is my favorite Psychic type Pokemon.
man... sceptile never actualy got love... even though he was (is) my favorite grass type.
Great list. My list would be: 10. Armaldo

Hoenn is by far my favorite region in Pokemon. Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald are tied as my favorite Pokemon games. The GameBoy Advance SP is my favorite handheld gaming console.
Your opinion is a very good one. And your profile picture is even better :D
Finally, somebody talks about Sceptile for once!
Same here, kid. I just love it and Gardevoir rekindled my love for Pokémon. I ALWAYS name mine Viola. Moves: Calm mind, Psychic, Thunderbolt and Protect.
Liked this video because you added groudon on this list. Its my favorite legendary and pokemon with gardevoir ;)
Zangoose, Regice, Metagross, Sceptile... We've got a lot of the same favorites... Eager to hear about your favorites from Sinnoh next!
10 - Sharpedo - Normal and Mega
9 - Aggron - Normal and Mega
8 - Sableye - Just Normal
7 - Metagross - Just Normal
6 - Milotic

7. Absol
6. Gardevoir
5. Sceptile

1. Latias
When Gen 3 came out, both my sis and I had GBAs so we could trade together. I technically preferred Latias over Latios, mainly it was easier to catch and I ended up getting one with very high special attack. Not much to say about this list except that it was much easier for me to pick my favorites in gen 3 than any other generation.
My Top 10 Favourites)
10: Ludicolo (Good rain sweeper)
9: Gardevoir (A great special attacker, that now gets Fairy Type moves like Moon Blast)
8: Kyogre (Great special attacker)
7: Cacturne (Creepy)
6: Blaziken (1 of 2 non-legendary Ubers)
5: Whiscash (Better than Quagsire, to me)
4: Dusklops (Great walling beast)
3: Groudon (Dat attack & bulk)
2: Deoxys (It's defense form is amazing)
1: Metagross (My favourite Pokemon of all time, it's very powerful, and can learn many great moves)
My list is ALMOST the same. One major difference, however, is that instead of Sceptile, I have Grovyle at number one, for a couple of reasons.
I actually caught a Feebas once, good thing too. It is the one me and my friends all have been using to get new ones using the Ditto breeding technic.
Those Ice puns made me smile.
i agree i like sceptile :D
welcome to the club
I'm planning of buying black 2 and platinum maybe even X to get my classic Team Omega and I have the 1st version of the DS
Hooray for sceptile, groudon, the latis, milotic, and my personal favorite Pokemon ever blaziken. I also remember trying to get to regice. I was decoding it letter by letter and it opened up just as I cracked it
Zangoose! I allways called my Zangoose ,,Blade'' because of that awesome design and the claws.
So if you like Swampert, do you liek Mudkips?
Hmm, interesting list. As for my personal favourites:
10. Cradily
9. Mawile
8. Seviper
7. Swalot
6. Milotic
5. Altaria
4. Salamence
3. Metagross
2. Swampert
1. Grumpig
This list just reminded me of how most of my favourite pokemon are gen 3.
Metagross, Gardevoir, Milotic, Blaziken, Groudon, Rayquaza.
Zangoose had a bad-ass design but I wasn't fond of battling with it.
I never managed to evolve my feebas (which I found really easily and had no idea was rare at the time) because after a certain point it wouldn't eat anymore pokeblocks.. being about 99% maxed out on beauty. x(
KYOGRE!!! i love him so much.
Blaziken will always be my starting pokemon in hoenn.
Latios & Latias are great as well.
overall great list
Of course I do, how do you think I played these games?
My favorite hoenn pokemon is swampert
My friend, you get a like specifically for the ice pun sequence :)
you are both right, if you have the scale you can just trade evolve, but if you traded over a feebas with max beauty already, just level it up and it will evolve
4:53 I love how all Groudon does is jump two feet and it shakes the whole region
love the flurry of puns at 1:30 xD
Thanks, I actually had a 5th pun but I thought that would be over doing it. :)
You pronounced Scald "scaled"! I nearly banged my head on my keyboard hearing that.
Great list, though. My favorite Gen 3 Pokemon include Jirachi, Gardevoir, and Plusle and Minun.
I... I like all of these guys! Sure I'd change the order a bit and add some other ones but... my list would be rather similar.
I love using Slaking when the circumstances are right. Sceptile is awesome as well. He's my grass type for Gen 3. Torterra is my overall Grass type for all of Pokemon.
Also, groundon can learn solar beam at around level 70. Combine that with its ability, you got a couter against alot of water types.
Are you going to include Mega Evolutions in the Kalos list? If not, can we get a list of your 10 favorite mega evolutions?
Favorite Hoenn Pokemon Are
10- Blaziken
9- Gardevoir
8- Aggron
7- Ludicolo
6- Absol
5- Swampert
4- Zangoose
3- Milotic
2- Metagross
1- Sceptile
This is the last Generation of Pokemon that I actually still KIND OF liked. My favorite Pokemon from Hoenn are Linoone and Kecleon. Some of the other Pokemon I like are: Sceptile, Aggron, Groudon, and Rayquaza.
I honestly feel this generation is so criminaly underrated
And in this list are two of the Pokemon I dread fighting. Milotic is a nightmare, and despite being the prettier version of Garydos it is the more destructive of the two. It hits hard, takes forever to kill, and if you don't have an electric Pokemon you will suffer. Metagross is just as hard to kill, and he learns some scary moves. Not only that, Metagross is also just plain intimidating to face.
I love Houenn and a lot of my absolute favorites are from here
10- Masqurain (Thank you Sun and Moon)
9- Flygon (I accidentally called him Google Head instead of Goggle Head)
8- Aggron (Greatbthing you can get early on)
7- Claydol (Loved him in Black 2...even though it's genderless)
6- Rayquazza (do I have to explain)
5- Peliper (Thank you even more Sun and Moon, it's amazing with Drizzle)
4- Armaldo (Nice design and is a savior in a nuzlocke I did)
3- Sharpedo (Great water type and Tate and Aliessa can't touch it)
2- Salamnce (Duh)
1- Sceptile (2nd Favorite starter and awesome design and it's a sweeper)
Personally, I would have put Gardevoir on the list. But that's just me.
My favorite gen 3 Pokemon is Sceptile, too! Mostly because it was my first started in gen 3.
And No Thank You to Psychic either. Luster Purge and Mist Ball may be slightly weaker but their Special Attacks barely make that even matter, plus both of their signature moves have a 50% chance of lowering a Special Stat.
My list:
1. Breloom 2. Sharpedo 3. Flygon 4. Sceptile 5. Absol 6. Metagross 7. Ludicolo 8. Manectric 9. Blaziken 10. Aggron
editing is a marvel
Agreed so much, can't argue with the childhood.
Nice job cj. Like these pokemon list so far. Are you also going to do a top 10 least favorite pokemon on each of the 5 gens too?
very nice list number ten, two, and one are my favourite pokemon
Aside from crunch what would be another good move for a sceptile in gen 3? I'd appreciate suggestions
1:18-1:36. you have more one-liners than Mr. Freeze from Batman & Robin. Now that's cold. DAMMIT!
Well. There is an event in Pokemon X and Y which it has the Speed Boost ability. I happen to have that one that is Level 100.
*Sees all 3 starters on the list*
Freaking, sold.
My top 5 favorite from this region are these, the rest Im still deciding which to put
5.Breloom
4.Slaking
3.Swampert
2.Rayquaza
1.Metagross
I like a lot of 3rd gen pokemon, but my top ten are:
10: Dusclops
9:Tropius
8: Swampert
7: Sceptile
6: Blaziken
5: Altaria
4: Cradily
3: Glalie
2: Metagross
1: Flygon
Sceptile is my favorite 3rd gen Pokemon. It used to be Blaziken, but now it's Sceptile.
Good luck with Sinnoh! God, there are so many good Pokemon, like Arceus, Empoleon, and Regigigas (neglecting its ability Slow Start)
I thought this wasn't going to be on UA-cam glad it has
Based on the tree I thought that Sceptile would be kind of slow, carrying that heavy tree around.
