@H3R371C yeah holidays in countries with unrestrained communication of a virulent disease is so much better than trying to keep it at bay. I'd say something uncomplimentary about your intelligence but it is probably against community standards...
@H3R371C LOL. Lock down doesn't work because there has been so few deaths? Unfortunately, it's not a closed system. Lock down gets it gone and it gets back in again. So you lock down again to get it gone again. It really is quite simple and, it appears, so are you. But I'm not here to convince you, it's a waste of my time. So I will engage with you no more. Stay safe.

After much confusion it turned out that he was trying to say..... " I had a shirt like yours ( and I loved it so much I wore it all the time and ) I wore it to rags." Finally understanding I said..." Oh you mean Rags! " He said....." Yes, RAaaaaaaaaaaGZ ! " ( In his best Aussie accent.) Also, after waiting in a boiling hot car for him to return, I said............" Thank God you're back. I was cooking." He said......" What you cooking!? " 😜!??!🤪
I was such a Fernando back in 1989! Now as I try to help some "fernandos/as" I share the sentiment of the last bit... lol Jimmy you are somewhat a hero in my covid life lol
Hahahahaha when I first came to Australia 25yrs ago a new friend came over to invite us for a bbq. We didn’t speak any English and we thought he was talking about Barbie (the doll). My poor mom was standing there trying to understand what he meant while my sister and I ran to the kitchen laughing. Learning a new language is hard but funny at times.
We had an American teach us English at school. She was absolutely lovely and a very skilled teacher, however she had a habit of correcting our spelling to that of the states eg colour/color. It was fun to go up to her and gently inform her that we where in fact spelling the word correctly.
I live in Australia and grew up in Australia ( my mum is from Germany) but I had a very hard time spelling and reading as a kid, could sorta talk alright and did learn how to read and write in the end (my spelling and grammar not great and I have way to much trouble trying to even learn any language so I have mad respect to anyone who can talk, read and write in more than one language) English isn’t easy... I talk so weird though that every time I meet a new aussies they always end up asking where I’m from and seem so surprised to learn that I’m from Australia 🇦🇺 though and all I can say to explain it is my mum’s from Germany and or I watched a lot cartoons while growing up (Australia gets a lot cartoons from around the world) so yes English is hard
Check out autism. I never knew why I kept adopting different accents and even voices. People used to ask me where I was from. It didn't help when we lived overseas for a bit haha! So much fodder.

I'm Australian & have only spoken english, or bad english if I had to write anything, in the bad old days before spell check I remember spending a frustrating amount of time looking up the word psychology in the S section of a dictionary.
British friend of mine once tried to tell me she was heading to "Saint Ives".... She pronounced the words so perfectly that the rest of us (all aussies) had no idea what she was saying!! We eventually realised she was talking about "S'nives"
It's amazing brain washing through the years Aussie still making you the joke Instead of Respecting what you brought to the country Oh well Hope your children are coping well Mine didn't and still don't Australia what a disgraceful And you wear masks The world is laughing at you
Oh my gossshhh!! 🤣🤣🤣 as a non native English speaker from Bali, meeting all many people around the world with their accents, this had me howling!!! 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
I commend people that are able to learn English as a non first language. It must be so hard. There are so many stupid things about the English language.
I work at a clinic with various non english as their first language speaking people, and the poor things apologise when I can't understand them, because their accent is too thick or they don't know what to say. I always tell them that it's not easy to learn another language, I haven't even attempted, you have, so kudos to you.
I moved to Australia and the first job I got was at Bunnings, All by myself because the other guy went on holiday. It was such a nightmare! I couldn't understand what the tradies were saying.
This is an excellent introduction to how easy is the English language! XD I easily can relate this to my struggles with the idiom. Now I could name myself Fernando Gomes - or Gómez.
Too funny. I taught ESOL English in Italy and l, a New Zealander, had American, Australian English and Irish colleagues. I often used to chuckle over the amount of effort l put in trying to teach 'th' which my Irish colleague pronounced 'd' anyway.
As a southerner myself, I've always felt bad for those around us who have to learn English. While I like southern accents, we know how to butcher the English language by just combing full sentences into one word 😆
I get the impression Jimmy hasn't actually met an American before. Very few of us talk like we have a mouthful of marbles, and no one spits into a spittoon anymore.
