- I used the scrap 2x12 for the bird block. I ripped some of he 2x12's in half for the collar ties. I'm almost done with the blocking and I'll finish the rafter ties first thing next week then the roof goes on!!!! The weather is holding out for now but it's coming.

You are a very hard working man for your family. That is such an envious thing for many people who can only dream of doing. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Please be careful. Your family needs you.
The fact that you think that you can not explain to somebody else, how you want something done, makes you human, the fact that you care so much to provide the best that you can for your family, makes you the nicest possible human. In a time where everybody wants to do as little as possible ( even some members of the church ) it is incredible to see a man work as hard as you. If I make it back to northern Utah, I will drive north to see you, shake your hand and buy you lunch ( if you will let me ) Take care of you and yours, and be safe
Thank you Jesper!
PS - - Your not crazy --- ...the world is crazy. And your smart enough to do this while your children are still young.
We got into the homestead lifestyle AFTER our kids were grown. They could have learned SOOO much.
Yours is a wonderful testimony.
This might go unheard, and I have never left a comment like this before. But I feel I have to, I have been following you for sometime and I just need to say You are a true inspiration. thank you, honestly. I admire your work ethic, your outlook, and your positivity through it all. The music is a great touch. I am 28 married with two kids I have yet to take on a project such as yours but you give me the drive to balance hard work to support my family with never settling for the norm. I can’t say thank you enough, I hope this makes up for some of the negativity of others. To many many more videos!
Dip Juice thank you for you comment! All that I️ can hope for is to motivate someone to better themselves. Thx again!
Dear Brother, you have my complete respect. Exactly how I would be handling your build. Heaven will be full of men like yourself.. family first is exactly what you are doing. Don't think for a minute that you don't have balance. Your priorities are spot on.
charles chidester thank you Charles! Too kind
I recently came across your channel and I have sat and watch all your videos that you have posted. Firstly let me start by saying what an inspiration you are. The amount of work that you do is amazing. I love how your workshop/house is coming along. secondly, I just want to say what a wonderful family you have. Your little son makes us laugh. Keep going with the house/shop. I look forward to seeing it grow and finish. Oh good job on clearing the land. God bless you all - John
Thanks for watching John!
Building your roof “A” frame in place is different. I guess your decision to build this ‘on your own’ has many levels of reasoning and methodology. Thank you for sharing your journey as you create a home for your family with the sweat of your labour. I pray that the weather is kind to your efforts and you reach safely the finish line you have set. It will be good to have you all in the one place as you develop your land and build the material foundations necessary.
Hard work is what made this country and we are loosing that way of thinking. Thanks for helping to show it still works. Job well done
Looking good. Thanks for taking us along on your journey
It's a credit to you, your family are so lucky to have a dad that will do any thing for them. Stay safe and take care. love what your doing.
You know I don't think that there is any better thing in the world than good hard work , creating some thing that can last a 100 plus years. We were all pretty much given 2 hands 2 arms a brain and the ability to create some thing whether it be a home or car, heavy equiptment , growing garden or fields, raising animals or what ever else that is a true gift from God ! The feeling of satisfaction that you did your best to do anything we are gifted with ! Good Luck getting it all enclosed in by winter ! You have come so far akd love what you are doing even if you are worn out by the end of the day ! Good Luck with your dreams !
Everything you said about building that yourself is exactly how I felt when I built mine 20 years ago. Great job ,keep up the good work.
I enjoy videos like this for people that has a sense of pride in what they are doing.
Very wise word. Even if you half to tarp the building to be able to fininsh the roof so be it,you are building your dream so let nothing stop you.
my sentiments EXACTLY @3:05-3:35. Thank you for posting these videos of your progress, both hardships and successes. Both you and your neighbors are truly blessed by you moving to that area. You because you have such good neighbors and the neighbors themselves for having someone that they can depend on to always do the right thing and help when it is needed. You sir are truly blessed!
Your work ethic puts most i know to shame. Universe always smiles on those who add value, you sir are doing one hell of a job and also shearing your experience. That going the extra hundred miles. Thank you
LOVED that opening and talking about the whys and wherefores, including why you're doing it on your own. I'm a builder at heart too and we never feel so alive as when we are building something that is ours. There is such a satisfaction from such building. You have done a marvelous build in such a short time. Sooo glad you will have it covered before it gets nasty.
My Dad built a place when I was little where they had the worst wx in 100 years, which started before it was all covered. Nails were popping up from out of that wood like crazy, and caused lots of issues. So i'd have never taken the chance on what you were doing so late in the season -- BUT CONGRATS you are SOOO CLOSE. Thanks for taking us along...
RelentlessHomesteading thanks Buddy!
You are the epitome of self determination and do-it-yourself tenacity. Thanks for taking the time, and effort, to share this journey. I wish I was your neighbor so I could watch your build firsthand, and share a beer or two with you.
I consider myself hard working but sir are one determined man well done and stay warm and safe.
Huge respect to you - I can’t belief you’ve built that largely on your own with no help. Amazing display of what self belief and determination can achieve and of course the love of a good family. Well done - best of luck with finishing roof. I’m a big fan of your work ethic and attitude - huge respect. 🤠👍🙏
Like the way you chose to build your own family home. It certainly takes time and sacrifice. You are at the point I hope to be at in five years. I entirely agree nothing in life worth anything comes easy. Great job, I like watching your progress. Take care
Amen to your opening thoughts, I am in the same place. God bless you and keep you healthy so that you can complete your families new home.
Your not crazy, what your doing is wonderful.
Thank you Stacy!
I'm so proud of you, you are doing a wonderful thing, God bless you and your family. Red Poppy Ranch is in my prayers and I hope that each day brings many blessings.
God bless you brother. Everything I see of you is pure and good. I enjoy watching the build and your craftsmanship.
Kudos to you Red Poppy! Lookin good! Can't wait to see the finished product. You're doing what a lot of us only think about doing.
Awesome progress. Your an inspiration, I take my hat off to you. Keep up the great work.
A.S.A you took the words right out of my mouth. Yes yes
A.S.A Amen brother, I could not agree more!
I'm talking about cathedral trusses, you get your vaulted ceiling a little steeper roof and have room for insulation.
Progress for sure. Be under a roof in no time. Just please don't get up on the sheathing when wet or snow covered. To risky while there alone, for sure. Looking good.
Nice progress, may the weather be on your side and let you get roof decking on. Safety glasses and tie off bla, bla, bla. Finish that vision with your vision.
I'll be danged I reopened the collar tie video and now it works! This is something new! Take care. Doug
I appreciated your comments about wanting to have more balance in your life while trying to get dried-in. I use to be a runner until I started my house and really miss the balance I had. I am going through a hard time right now and praying the weather holds so I can get a roof on.
Looks Terrific, will meet any code. Can't wait to see it finished WELL DONE !
You're a bright light in a very dark world. Thank you!
I too enjoy build structures on my own. You are good at planning ahead and making the most of what you have. At age sixty eight I plan on one more house. Like you it will be building a off grid house, with super insulated frame. The ideal plan would have solar power and I will plan for this. But because of budget constraint every thing will just be designed for later install.
I’ve had over twenty surgeries over the years but if you manage your time and resources you WILL make this work. That is what I’ve done.
Ironically I’ve been offered a new position that I’ve been looking forward to do and with a little help from our son I’ll have this done before I’m seventy. After that we are going to build a tiny home for our son.
Coming together quickly - hope you beat the snow. I'm really enjoying your build and learning a lot.
Look at you go! It's looking fantastic!
Every time I see your progress, it's a inspiration, I find myself on the edge of my seat just hoping that there's a new " PROGRESS REPORT ,I haven't missed any of other posts, I've deleted most of the other people who I have been watching , the COUNTRY NEEDS MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO AREN'T SCARED TO GRAB A MIT AN GET IN THE GAME !!! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, THE WEATHER HERE IN COTTONWOOD HAS BEEN AWESOME! SO HOPEFULLY IT WILL HEAD YOUR WAY !!😎
Thanks Steve!
What a powerful insight, I put more thought into what we're doing up here than anything else in my life. And it's finally starting to take shape. Every time I hear somebody say you're Crazy. It just lets me know I'm on the right track.
As a recovering heroin addict you're an amazing inspiration to me. You carry some principles with you we all can practice. Thank for sharing part of your life with us!
Dude your drive to finish this thing is inspiring me man. The weather clearing up for you to finish drying is a sign from the universe that this was meant to be. Be safe and keep plugging away, we're all rooting for you!
You are one of my very favorite channels. You are such an inspiration to me.
I have had my fingers crossed for you to beat the snow. Not a problem that I have ever had to face here in Oz but I reckon that it makes it hard for you with a deadline. Structural is easy because you can research it and it is constant, aesthetic. now that is a can of worms that there is no correct or universal answer for EVER. However, in your case it is easier: if you and your significant other like it then it is the right way. I have really enjoyed you coverage of your adventure and look forward to seeing you achieve your goals.
Thank you for watching!
Watching this video again, this is by far your best episode. Unbelievably motivating!
looking good be safe
Keep up the great work.
You should be so very proud! Awesome job!
Just be careful and use safty equipment when roofing...God bless all your hard work.
Look forward to seeing your progress videos. I continue to pray for your safety. Know you are a pro, but follow those safety precautions. Going to be nice.
“14 boxes” sounded a little sarcastic to me...lol. Great job. By far you’re the best off the grid UA-cam channel right now. 👏👏👏
She really has 14 boxes...
You are one hell of a guy .. Someday I need to come by & shake your hand . Stay safe & well .
Man you are a worker, respect, and i hope Mother Nature stays on your side until you get it water tight.
Looks great I bet you can't wait to get that roof on and close it in
just subscribed,im totally impressed,i have done what your doing now 20 years ago it was tuff but so satisfying, and i got in the best shape i was ever in too!,awsome!
Cherish the clarity of purpose You have at this point in your life it is hard to come by.
Amen!
Your one of a kind, in a very good way. I wish i could do this so i live thru you.
You living the DREAM! I think its every man's dream to buy land and build his own house with good materials and take the time to do it right not like these cheap cookie cutter houses
I like your ranch-idea and diy mentality. Take care of you during the roofing, think about a scaffolding or a larger ladder. Your family needs you - healthy! Cu
Love to see the progress, it gives me hope that some day I will be where you are right now, building my dream. Thank you for the inspiration. :)

Great work! It's YOUR dream that's why it's crazy to everyone else. Let's face it, most folks don't ever live their dream as you are and that just makes them jealous of what you've accomplished. Keep "grinding!"
Well done you are living my dreams I love to watch
LOOKS GREAT MAN
Loved the editing on this one, and a beautiful monologue as you did the ties. Thankyou.
Looks great!
Awesome , keep it up and you'll be in it in no time at all.
All I can say is WOW !!!
Great work.
just love what you are doing, keep it up
nice work man, the old man always used to tell me if you want the job done right, you may as well do it yourself
Troy glad most people don't believe that and hire the pros or else I'd be out of business lol
i know how feel buddy about doing it your self and not asking for help i am building a log cabin by self will be nice when its done i can stand back and i built that
Never built a thing in my life ... outside of putting together toys for my kids ... but I love watching you build this cabin (HOME). How did the road go with the gravel? Have enough down for the winter? I think you're doing a great job and can't wait for each update. Also can't wait until the grass grows. It will look like your own private park. Beautiful place.
coming along great---thank you--
Your wife should be very happy!!
Fair play, sir.
I love the quality and through your putting into your home. I want a house build by you!!!

Inspiring stuff...
Not sure but it looks huge. Best to you.
Awesome work!
great work as always - keep going!
Doing good man fully enjoy the build wishing I could come help. I wouldn't view it as a time debt sometimes it's just about being a part of something that betters the life of another. :-)
Peanut Droppings me too. I have 14 weeks of vacation, saved up and would happily contribute. I'm a carpenter by choice, not trade.
Your crazy. keep up the great work
