- UA-cam has been suppressing some of our content, but that's not all UA-cam functions in a way that makes things harder for viewers and creators. There is no big UA-camr coming to feature this there is no #asmongold coming to watch this and report on this or anyone like that. This has led us to rely on off-platform support, it's nothing new lots of creators do it but we will need time to figure things out. If this video and any of our other content resonate with you please consider supporting us on Ko-Fi links below 👇 And please share our content, thank you.

Take your deserved break. You two are a positive addition to YT and the hobby in general.
In the long run, I will be here if you will.
Rest up, because you will need the strength.
Thanks we aren't truly taking a break as we are just trying to pursue other avenues and fix up our office and trying to make stuff better so we can sustain this - Cal
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow No worries! I fully understand the context that you are diversifying, and it’s smart, but very scary.
If you are having concerns finding an artist in the future, you have MyMiniFactory info. I would love to discuss what you had in mind, but I don’t want to impose upon another artist, if you had someone already.
I was looking through our videos to see if we had anything public which we could show. I liked the wasteland terrain you did. Can you do anime style/stylised stuff? - Cal
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow I paid the rent last year doing Final Fantasy XIV commissions, so yeah I'm very familiar with anime and stylized sculpts.
@@JamesBuggemo Nice! - Cal
I hate saying this but subscription notifications are broken. Many of us are subscribed but turn off notifications for the app because we get so many for all of our favorite creators
Which we understand but that percentage 0.01% just does make sense and we have to find a way to make things work 😔 - Cal
I get none from no one!
Thanks for the video, I think many people realise that YT is "not good" but often it needs someone to say it. Thank you for making the effort.
Glad it came across well we are still working just figuring things out - Cal
I have noticed on my other channel that if you do not select publish and notify subscribers lately, that actually gets you more people that watch your stuff and sometimes if you make a post with text with a link to your video to your subscribers, that usually gets pushed to your subscribers so you can have news people watch, and then your subscribers get notified
Thanks for the tip! But we have tried this to pretty disastrous results before - Cal
Do it for the passion is the same category of do it for the exposure. Anyone who says it is ripping you off
Yeah 😔 - Cal
Dude you are so right ~Sunny
Thank you for making this video and being so honest here. For what it is worth my heart goes out to you both.
Take the time off that you need and I’ll be sure to check in when your back.
The way UA-cam is treating yourselves and other creators is disgusting. In the end it will only hurt the platform more.
As someone who has studied visual communication I really do enjoy the perspective you both bring to the hobby. Whether it be the historical background and meanings behind certain styles and mediums to more nuanced tales, like encouraging people to tell a story with their models or doing more with less.
Your videos have encouraged me to improve more in my painting and now that I soon will have more time to set aside for the hobby I know I will be coming back here for inspiration and tips.
I really do wish you both all the best and not to lose heart. I don’t have any answers for you but I have heard your words echoed by a few other creators. Something will have to change, hopefully it is sooner rather than later.
Be safe and enjoy your time away. Cheers!
I am really glad to hear that we have been helping because that is our goal. We already have the next video finished going through final checks but we are going to focus on doing more to set ourselves up better, so we can sustain ourselves - Cal
Man, this was depressing. You two really motivated me to work harder and harder on my pile of minis, getting into smaller games and just generally think more about how i paint, what i paint and why (the color theory video and legion analysis videos were eye opening).
UA-cam is doing you really dirty, and thats just aint right. As far as my concern goes, all of the videos you guys put out so far were a hit.
Thank you for helping me keep those brushes wet, and I'll be looking forward to you future content. ❤
Comments like these we are not exaggerating keep us going knowing we have actually helped people. We will be back already and have one of the new videos half way finished - Cal
You have no idea how happy it makes us to here that our channel is doing exactly what we set out to do and that is to help people hobby better, thank you so much for this comment a lot of the times it's really hard to see if we are making any impact but your comment along with a lot of the other comments for this video really show that we are doing something ~Sunny
I've been noticing this lately too. Not sharing videos to your subscriber base is really frustrating and I've had lots of videos where UA-cam artificially steps in and goes 'NOPE!' It's demoralizing, especially when you know it's a good video and you've put a lot of work into it.
I know and you have more subs than us... we are more than happy to play in a competitive market, but it hurts. Because the thing is I think besides our top ten tips video almost everything we really put our all into videos. Like with our lore videos, we credit all the artist we can, do most lore channels do that? Do most people know how hard it is to even find the artists behind GW work?!
... This week we have behind on things because we are tying to a big project this week but... 14 shorts a week 2 videos... it's a job and it's a treadmill and to be honest we don't know if we can keep up... But what choice do we have? - Cal
youtube unsubscribes me from channels, subscribes me to random channels and doesnt notify me of peoples videos. Also the default screen is that auto generated slop. UA-cam literally pushes scam adverts to us too. Which is why its unusuable without ad blocks
You know what you're not you're not wrong - Cal
Damn, I knew it was bad but that's even worse than I thought, for UA-cam to be just randomly controlling your subs ~Sunny
I would like to say that I love Waypn’s shorts, it is what brought me to the channel.
This channel has made art theory accessible to me, and for that I am grateful.
We are really glad we have made painting accessible for you - Cal
Being able to live off youtube earnings alone has been impossible for a long time. They've been bleeding money because of how the platform works, all while leeching off the backs and hard work of content creators. If you're going to have to get your own way to earn support like Patreon and others, there is no point to UA-cam
And it's what we're doing with Ko-fi but honestly we would like to just make quality content no nonsense and have people enjoy it and it be viable without the nonsense. 14 shorts and 2 videos a week was a lot and we will be doing it again but we just want fair treatment nothing special - Cal
y'all have become my favorite hobby UA-cam channel for sure. Not attached to any brand presa and y'all are real, keeping it 100%. That honestly earns and deserves a lot of trust.
Thank you very much, we prioritize honesty because the bill always comes due, I am glad we earned your trust - Cal
I totally understand you guys if you are going to make a break.
You are really hard workers and it sucks to see you not getting rewarded for this.
Especially since your videos are so well-made and are providing such a good educational/entertainment value.
As far as I know, subscriptions don't matter anymore. Recommendations do, and also getting trending. It's funny but you gotta get shared outside if the UA-cam a lot to get trending (for example get viral). Your videos do get recommended to me, but, no shit, I'm already a subscriber and already gonna watch.
And views from shorts and shorts-generated subs don't transfer into long format views and subscribers that actually gonna watch. That's one of the major downsides of the UA-cam - quite a few channels have >1 M subs but barely get any regular views. As if all those subs came from accidentally taping sub button instead of scrolling down.
And last but not least - it seems that they kind of cut recommendations after a certain point, if I'm interpretating the graphs correctly. I may be wrong or not viewing it thorough enough, but it sounds like it would make more sense for views to follow a natural progress, not to get sudden bursts and plateaus. Either algorithm is broken, or it's working exactly as intended - giving bust in small doses and than stops recommending until the next day, until they kinda fall off.
But by no means am I a UA-cam Algorithm specialist. Just my wild theories.
Anyway, bringing those issues up is doing a God's work. They've already changed the way algorithm works several times, and now it works better than ever, but it still kinda sucks. We all have seen some amazingly funny videos that is, like, 10 years old and author last posted 5 years ago. Makes you think that the author could have used those views 5 years ago, when they still had their enthusiasm.
Even if we are wrong and the algorithm works perfectly, I think you are making valid points about this platform in general.
Anyway, I'll do my best to support everything that you do to my best abilities.
"As far as I know, subscriptions don't matter anymore. Recommendations do, and also getting trending." Well you know what you're not... You're not wrong...
"And views from shorts and shorts-generated subs don't transfer into long format views and subscribers that actually gonna watch." And this is the problem if they did, we would feel rewarded for our shorts work and we would feel like we can keep going... but shorts are brutal, amount of work vs pay off. You need 100k+ for 20 dollars...
"Makes you think that the author could have used those views 5 years ago, when they still had their enthusiasm." You know... I said before and I will say it again... You're not wrong.
"Anyway, I'll do my best to support everything that you do to my best abilities." if you aren't able to support monetarily which is perfectly fine because we know how tight things are, just sharing our stuff with people who will actually watch it and get something out of it. That, that is the biggest thing you can do for us because if we have more 'lifelong' fans that is what pushes things as far as we can tell - Cal
You guys are making great content and you aren’t the only creators I follow with this story. It sucks but I think you’ve hit the reason for it on the head in this video. I’ve toyed with the idea of starting my own channel a few times but honestly, I don’t have the time and energy to put up the kind of fight for views that you seem to need. I hope things work out for you however you end up approaching this going forward!
Yeah we are still going hard but we are trying to set ourselves up for success rather than runnin on empty the whole way. Done an office revamp doing a painting space revamp today and yesterday trying to get things in order so we can keep going - Cal
It's funny isn't it... at the end of the day, "everyone" wants to watch soap operas... You Tube needs to start realising that not everyone is a reactionary, nay-saying dramaturge that just wants to perpetuate what appears to be (at its extreme) - nihilism.
You two have been a genuine (and positive) breath of fresh air on this platform and I'd like to take this opportunity to first of all thank you and wish you all the very best for your future endeavours.
Again, thank you wholeheartedly for your insights and charisma - they are much-needed in this dirge-producing platform that is ever-increasing in volume.
Really glad to read a comment like this, we are getting our house in order, making sure that we can continue to make content for you guys. But we also need to realise that this isn't working as intended as they say so we need to make things work. Once again thank you for the comment - Cal
I subscribe to this
Glad to hear it - Cal
I also notice, if I go on a vacation for a week, my feed is completely different and much more 'normalized' to lamestream content.
I haven't taken a vacation for a very long time as you may have noticed we have been working during this one ☺ But glad to have you on board - Cal
Just tell me where you will post new videos and I'll watch them there.
We will be simulcast I believe it's called? We will be putting stuff elsewhere in the meantime. But it will be old to UA-cam but we almost have one new video ready and have been working on others. We will come back at the old rate but first we need to get our house in order so to speak - Cal
I have 1% of your subscribers, but that May 3rd downslope happened to me as well. I had my best video ever on May 1st, gaining me more than 10% of my current subscribers, and it fell off a cliff after that point.
I'll keep creating content as I enjoy it, but I question YT as well. Take a break, and come back refreshed.
Yeah I believe you - Cal
As if to illustrate your point, tonight is the first I've seen of this. Maybe I've been distracted.. but.. 🤷♂️
That's totally okay, but yeah someone informed me there was a major lawsuit and whole lot of social medias changed their policy... but like we said in the video, we are trying to play detective to try and figure out what is wrong - Cal
I just want to say that I love your channel, have watched each videos MULTIPLE time! Keep on good work, we love you! I really appreciate your energy, and insight.
Thank you so much, we have finished one video already scheduled for our return, assembled adjustable height table. Did a clean up of the office and did up two industrial shelves for the painting room. We are getting stuff done and will be back in full force soon enough - Cal
That's heartbreaking.
It's a such is life thing but, we can't afford to stop so we have to keep going, we have another video almost ready for after the break. We are going to keep going hard but we are going to use this time to help set us up better to keep going harder - Cal
Thank you both for the education. I think I am going to start spending a lot less time on youtube now. I wish more youtube creators would tell this kind of story. I look forward to supporting you in other ways.
Thanks, we will still be hear in the next two weeks, but you will be able to enjoy us elsewhere, we will find ways to make it work - Cal
Seriously though your content is top notch. I have rewatched your vids a lot! The fact you two put yourselves out there on the platform is a huge risk. I have nothing but respect for you two. Elegiac Hero is a masterpiece. Have it saved and plan on watching it many times. Enjoy your brake and look forward to your new videos.
I am really glad we are going to re-release it on Rumble this week with fixed up audio from the part at about 6 minutes in when I didn't tune the background audio to the vocals right
Thank you for your vote of confidence and we already making new stuff "there was always going to be a heresy" is already done on the back end and up for members we aren't slowing down just shifting gears a bit so we can manage things better hopefully - Cal
I wish I could turn off shorts as a function in YT.
It's absolute shit the way YT treats so many creators.
Good on you guys for making this vid.
So much love to you both. Get the rest you deserve. I'll be waiting for your return.
Thank you so much and we will return with vigor but first we get things in order! So we can have a solid foundation - Cal
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow Take all the time you guys need.
Thanks - Cal
And now this video isn’t showing in my history of YT
Of course 😂 - Cal
How is Rumble going for you? I haven't had much luck
Don't know yet today is our first day will release tonight - Cal
The Nurgle part of me loves the slopping degradation of these companies and I can only hope in the same way that there can be some sort of rebirth of the internet and its juggernauts. Good luck, passion is pain and I hope you can bare it, I hope it treats you well. Roll that boulder well Sisyphus you're already doing amazing.
"We must imagine Sisyphus as happy", as the quote goes... we really wish things aren't as they are but we are going to keep pushing check out our most recent posts and you will see we have still be working hard on getting things set up - Cal
@WhatareyouPaintingnow I'd expect nothing less of you two. Though I will miss my digestible art theory for even the little time it will be gone.Because, It has helped me consider and attempt different mediums. Good luck and happy trails.
@@thetaarmy Well we still have other stuff if you want to watch we did a collab with MishMash on our review channel ua-cam.com/users/live3cXLEs4wPiI?si=xyRO3IYYcq_AIkNj
And we have the posts keeping you updated I hope that keeps you entertain - Cal
still don't understand why people wait for notifications of new video when the "subscribtions" tab is easily accessibile with one click or tap
I think some people use it as a reminder for stuff, but that counted both the subs tab and the notifications - Cal
A lot of people expect UA-cam to land their subscriptions in their home feed. I won’t lie, I used to think that way up until a couple of years ago because my home feed did mostly consist of subscriptions and related content for a long time. I’ve completely changed how I use UA-cam over the last year because my home feed became a trash heap and I’ve started using the subscriptions tab almost exclusively, but even so I miss videos due to the sheer number of subscriptions I have. I probably need to weed some of the lesser watched ones out. But I’d wager a lot of people still operate under that false assumption and never check the subscriptions tab and don’t have notifications on
I really enjoy your videos, it is such a breath of fresh air in comparison to other established miniature content creators. I hope with your hiatus, you both come out swinging with even more amazing subject matter in the future best of luck and see you in two weeks.
I am glad you have been enjoying them and we almost have one of the new videos ready, we are going to keep on swinging but we need to have more way to land those 'hits'. We have to find a way to make things work and that's on us but thank you so much for your support - Cal
I noticed this a while ago. I’m someone who tends to binge a creators content. And I can point out in most peoples timelines about a year and a half to two years ago when someone made the decision to direct people away from hobby Content because you can just watch the hobby content average views drop off regardless of quality of content.
Yep, I can totally get what you are saying because I think quality wise we have gone from strength to strength. However, our viewership for our videos hasn't increased a great deal despite having a massive number of subscribers, but we will work it out. We are still going to produce quality content because that is who we are - Cal
Take what time you need! You will be missed, but our enjoyment (I absolutely love your color theory videos, they helped me design my custom chapter) is not worth your mental health!
Additionally, maybe start a discord for just discussions?
We have started a discord it is the second tier on the Ko-fi
LETS GOOOOO NEW WAYPN
The unstoppable American positivity, never stop being you - Cal
I hope y'all keep making content, but I'll completely understand if you all burn out. UA-cam is likely legally a monopoly at this point and I wouldn't doubt it if they suppress people that are showing growth so they don't have to pay you. I wouldn't doubt it if they get hit with a class action lawsuit soon about this very topic.
I wish the best for y'all and hope you find your peace in all of this.
It may be simple money or it may be some glitch that they can't admit to but, we can't keep going this when they are dishonest we have to find solutions - Cal
i have to struggle to find good warhammer painting channels but i constantly get recomanded ai-thumbnail slop manchildren outrage type videos for warhammer. Like youtube, i know these get more comments from ppl with too much time on their hand but thats not how i want to spend my time and when i found your channel i was really suprised at the quality compared to the relative low view count
Thank you for the praise we will be back already scheduled our first video for our return. And we are upgrading our office we are looking forward to diversifying - Cal
UA-cam used to be cool. Specifically on used to. UA-cam you're terrible and I want you to know this!
It would be nice if they listen - Cal
Wishing you both the best
Thank you very much - Cal
The system is not working and that's intended.
Also, i just realized youtube unsubscribed me.
*sigh* of course 😂 - Cal
I think My comment got deleted 🤔 ...... back agen to rewrite.... love the videos ❤
**Sigh** I believe you because I remember answering it... Such is life, but once again thank you for your lovely comment - Cal
It’s a gross and exploitive system when you look at it. People like Mr.Beast are underpaid relative to the value they create.
I debated sending this as a DM, but figured I may not be the only one who feels this way so... this video made me pull the trigger and unsubscribe.
I'll admit that I didn't find you through The Algorithm, but instead through a recommendation on another channel. Your videos that are actually about hobbying are pretty good. But I've noticed that a decent percentage of your videos, and definitely all of the community posts that have crossed my feed have been pretty negative, either about GW, UA-cam, or both. (this is excluding Shorts, because I don't watch Shorts from any creators).
Your "Controversy" video was late to the conversation at hand, and IMO was disappointingly coddling to the people whining about a minor lore change. I'm not surprised that it had a short "life" because honestly, I think the vast majority of people were sick of thinking about femstodes May 3, since the announcement happened sometime around April 15 or whatever.
I did see the Elegiac Hero vid in my subscriptions feed, but given how negative the last lore commentary of yours that I had watched was (Nostalgia is a strange fuel) I really wasn't in the mood for it that day so I didn't click.
This video makes a lot of assumptions about "suppression" and other nefarious things. But, as someone in your demographic, and who was a subscriber - I think that UA-cam doesn't promote your stuff more because it's just not that much of a draw.
Even when you do get a significant impression-to-click ratio, how much of that is because of the inherent quality of your videos vs. UA-cam just being appropriately selective regarding which users they show impressions to?
Anyways, I wish you luck when you come back up after the break. It seems pretty clear that the content that you like making the most is not the content that I like watching the most, hence the unsubscribe. I'm hopeful that your painting/creativity focused content will have enough virality to show up in my recommendations some day.
"I think that UA-cam doesn't promote your stuff more because it's just not that much of a draw." That's your opinion and your entitled to it, but I think we have some of the best edited stuff out there. Talking about stuff that other people don't. If it's not a draw for you there is nothing we can do, we have been doing everything we can and if that's not enough, perhaps it's best you unsubscribe - Cal
I also debated whether to comment or DM after unsubscribing but seeing this comment has motivated me to add the constructive parts of my criticism to the discussion in the hopes that the channel will improve in ways that will bring me back to being a subscriber.
First, I want to say what drew me to the channel to begin with. The videos on color theory and color psychology are unique among the hobby channel ecosystem. I'd love to see more of that and not just for Warhammer but for other games and painting projects.
Two things in particular irked me after watching this video all the way through. The first was the portrayal of the numbers of click through on Subscription feed vs Home. About a month ago there was a big discussion among several RPG UA-cam creators and all of them pointed out that they can't tell the difference between people who are subscribers clicking through on Home vs subscribers clicking through the Subscription feed. I would have thought that people who tout your marketing backgrounds would understand this nuance and discuss the fact that UA-cam hides this number. Instead, you give the and portray it as if this means that none of those Home page click throughs are subscribers. This either means you didn't know, in which case you haven't been as thorough as you claim, or you chose to deliberately mislead your audience and neither of these are good options. In my book "It was a nuance we didn't think could come across well in the video" is deliberately misleading when you make a video of this length whose whole purpose is to make the claims you make.
The second issue I had was your description of your own writing on the "Warhammer Controversy" video as "walking the razor's edge" . Above @sparklemotion42 describes you as "coddling" as certain point of view and I'd go beyond that to say your portrayal and words in that video go beyond coddling to outright endorsement. If you thought that you walked the razor's edge rather than leaving the razor at home then flew to another country; then I question how well you understand the gap between your intentions and your finished product.
I respect that you have an opinion on think that your strengths as creators lie not in your comments on hobby drama or in your anger or contempt for UA-cam. I would ask that you follow your own advice from your video on "Getting your Spouse into Warhamer" where Sunny comments that your passion and love for Warhammer is what drew her to the hobby. When you express your joy and love of the hobby of color, of painting and of each other then your videos do well. I hope that you manage to find and share joy whether it be here on UA-cam or elsewhere.
Lol. You two get real jobs. As in. Daytrade crypto or something :D
Well. I dont know what i just watched but i enjoyed it. I would like it even better if you did full length video on struggles of warhammer youtuber. But real like. 'Those who are in thr know, will ubderstand what we are talking about'.
- thats hardly make me emotionally involved in your cause. Rather makes me want to tell you to get a real job.
And no, video didnt distress me. Just some youtubers talking to i dont know who. Other youtubers? Shrug.
We do have real jobs and we do this. But hey I don't think you would care either way - Cal
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow first of all, that was tongue in cheek comment with real job being daytrading crypto.
Second of all i watch all your content and is fun.
Thirdly you could read into hint of frustration and take step back and think bout it. I understand the premise of selling substitute of friendship on social media (i have paid youtube account, no ads and treat this platform as radio. I dont really watch anything more than 2% of what i listen to) and i accept it. What i am offering is a suggestion to go a little further with your 'friendship' and sprinkle some metaknowledge on your viewers who might be interested in how your struggles as creators actually are instead of ever so more popular moaning and winking about intricacies of algorithm but treating listeners as second grade 'friends' or lower level acolytes not worthy of the actual lore.
This rythm you can see everywhere (juggs, painting phase, 52 miniatures, and other good programs) is creating some barriers for relatability that you so much try to earn in this production of yours.
Let’s get you a presence on Odysee, a YT alternative. I’ll follow you over there.
We are now on TikTok and Rumble which has added a lot of extra work. But not a lot of results but Tiktok has had a lot of viewer easily in the time frame rivaling UA-cam - Cal
