    I just did this to my 2006 Tundra yesterday, same engine, 4.0. I had to pull my intake (top half only, not the bottom) to get to the fuel injectors that needed to be replaced. And yes, it is actually easier to just drain the coolant down enough so you can disconnect the two small hoses at the throttle body so you can remove the intake entirely, as opposed to trying to work around it as I've seen others do on YT. While the intake was off, I also replaced the valve cover on the driver's side.
    I don't know how tight the engine compartment is in the Tacoma, but in my Tundra, I didn't even need to drop the skid plate. There's plenty of room to reach the radiator drain from the top. It'll run down on to the skid plate, but I just used a large enough drain pan to keep it off the floor. And, I see you pulled that little bolt at the back of the intake instead of fighting with that wire clip like I've seen other people do. All in all, the job looks harder than it really is. Start to finish it took me four and half hours to complete, and that was including a lunch break and that valve cover gasket.

    I referenced your video to replace my vale cover gasket. I just finished mine today, it took me a day and half ... it's a pain in the ass but I saved a lot of labor money by doing it myself. I also cleaned the throttle body as well. I was thinking of replacing the intake manifold gasket since I'm ready there but I saw you drained the coolant so I changed my mine. Thanks sir

    Thank you for this video! I’m combining this with a fuel injector replacement video to both replace all 6 injectors and do the intake manifold gaskets while I’m in there. Btw.. in the other injector video, he unbolted the throttle body and left the hoses attached to avoid having to deal with draining the coolant… thanks again- this video is terrific to show me how to do this on my son’s 2005 TRD Sport to hopefully fix a P0420 that cat replacement didn’t fix.. scantool is showing me super high fuel trims that is making the AFS show too rich. Replacing O2/AF sensors didn’t help, and replacing vacuum lines partially helped…

    My mechanic just did my head gaskets on my 09 V6 @380,000 miles. He told me my butterfly valves in my intake were all disintegrated, and I should replace the manifold to restore lost power. Did you notice if yours were in good condition?

    While its off...doing like 6 jobs now...make sure to have all of the fluids and gaskets ready to go before getting started. Just great.😂

    I used this video to try and remove my knock sensors but now I’m stuck. Trying to figure out how to remove that pipe snaked in the middle

    New bolts are necessary wish you had mentioned that

    How hard would it be to replace the knock sensors and knock sensor harness under that coolant pipe? I've got that dreaded p0333 code and I'm kind of baffled with it. Everything I've read says that code will throw you into limp mode but the truck has never ran better. Also it happened simultaneously with my fuel pump dying and it throwing the bank 1 and bank 2 "too lean" code due to fuel starvation. It seems to coincidental that it threw those two unrelated codes at the exact same moment.

      Had the exact same issue. The knock sensor was a pain to get to. Took days. Did you get this fixed?

    Awesome video! Very informative. How long did it take to do the job? I have a 2205 Tacoma Prerunner V6. I believe the 2nd Generation Tacoma goes from 05 to 2011?

      It took him 3 hours to complete because he's a mechanic. If you are a DIY like me, it probably take you at least a day. It took me a day and half because I took time to do it.

    Hi, i´m trying to take out the lower intake but its really tight, the only bolts left are those with the nipple in the middle, can be that or something else that don´t let me take it off? please help

      There is one bolt on the lower intake manifold that's difficult to see/find, use a light and keep looking you'll find it. I had the same problem. Once you remove that last bolt, the intake should lift right off.
      Remember to not force/pry it, once the bolt is out it will easily separate from the cylinder heads.

    Why did you drain the coolant? Is it necessary?

    • @reydelossantos6581
      @reydelossantos6581 Рік тому +2

      It can be pinched in the meantime vs draining it (Little bit of juices will drip, but not enough to panic).

    Why drain the coolant?

    can the upper manifold be flushed out with water or degreaser? I have a 2016 tacoma.

    • @billanderson5774
      @billanderson5774 9 місяців тому +1

      Make sure to use a water based degreaser. GUNK (brand name) makes one, and it works well. If you use a solvent based degreaser it will swell/distort the rubber parts, and you will have to replace the upper manifold.

    My mechanic is saying $500 to do this on my 98 is that reasonable? I know I can do this but I just get super angry when working on a car. The idle is terrible on my truck and there's no codes so he's saying its this.

      Yes - 2 hours @ $200/hr + the gasket

      Great question! The Tacoma had over 325K miles so it seemed like a good time to replace it!
