Just been karting at Red Lodge in Suffolk. I watched this video the night before to get some tips for karting in the wet. Wow, I am so glad I did! Having never karted in the wet, I finished first racing with my co-workers who stuck to the traditional racing line, which was like ice in the wet! Really great video, it's so counter - intuitive going the long way round a corner but it sure works!

Really good video, really enjoyed it even as someone who drives these karts alot and has raced at sandown a few times!
In my experience at Sandown is the Rotax Karts have no bottom end acceleration and are prone to 'bogging' and by the time the engine catches and you are in the power band you are almost at the end of the straight because it only has the main straight and potentially the back straight to get the engine up to revs. (to clarify the engine catches earlier on the wet line but on the corners with a short straight between them you dont benefit from the better exit enough to mitigate the time lost on corner entry & mid corner)
Personally I use the wet line on the final corner as the better exit more than makes up for the loss on entry, after turn 1 I use a dry line then wet line onto the back straight then dry line.
Where as if you drive these karts at Tamworth (Birmingham) you have the same change in tarmac but you use the wet lines alot more because your higher up the RPM and carry more momentum at Tamworth.

age doesnt matter in racing, just experience, study sportsmanship behavior, racing principles and basics like racing lines etc., give yourself realistic challenges like go faster in some turns or brake later

Go to your local karting track (better outdoor but they can be far) and go to some club races until you get promoted into more competitive karting. One thing I would suggest don’t be frustrated if you get a bad result it’s a opportunity to learn from last time. And most importantly, have fun

In the wet you want to keep the accelerator down though out the corner or you are gonna have understeer, but too mutch accelerator sends you spinning and DO NOT lock up the brakes since it would make you flying into the barriers and you can do nothing about it. People have different opinions on what racing line to take in the wet.
I usually take the dry line (the driving line you would take on a dry track) and with a technique of constently accelerating and releasing, to make the back loose grip and rotate the go-kart (kind of like drifting), but the (original) wet driving line is a bit different. As you might/might not know when rubber touches rubber when its wet, it is more slippery than rubber toching asphalt (or what ever is used for the surface of the track) so you would try to not contact the rubber on the track (left by other karts), instead you would take a mutch wider line around the rubber and come back in (kida like what you did on turn two, around the start of the vid), but realy the best way is to just make one up your self.

haha I had the same experience at Sandown Park a fair few years ago. I had so so much trouble with turn 1 but as soon as I nailed I beat my friends by a second. Turn 5 was difficult also.

The karts are all different, and all seem to function differently, I've had karts here on this track several times, that are practically knackered so it does spoil the competitive side of this..

Lucky ass kid. I sure hope you tell your parents how much you appreciate and love them for giving you this opportunity to race like this. This was always my dream growing up. But unfortunately my dad just never had an interest in doing anything with me after my brother died. I tell you what though, if either my son or daughter wants to race I'll do whatever I can to make it happen. Just last year I had 15k and was going to get a race car but I wanted my dad as my Machinist because he is awesome with any with a motor but just as important as he would be free lol but still turned me down said no, just to sit in his Bedroom Every weekend and do nothing! I just don't understand why?!!!!

sometimes we need to say no to our parents and fight alone, that's what my father did at 18, he left my grandparents' house and started working on his goals. he encourages me to follow my dreams, I want to race in karts and then Formula (F4, F3, F2 and F1) but we don't have enough money so I race in simulators now, and if I ever get a chance I'll try everything so that my dreams come true
