  • SWIMBAIT FISHING IS EASY! If you've ever wanted to give it a try, we're going to show you everything you need to know. Most anglers want you to believe its difficult but besides a few little tricks, there isn't much to it. Understanding when and where to fish these baits, as well as which baits to throw in different situations, will make it even easier to catch a giant bass!
    Today Tim breaks down the differences between lure designs and actions, and how they fit different conditions. Once you've got the basics it really does come down to just going fishing. You can catch a giant swimbait fish this year if you commit to it!
    Below you'll find links to the exact baits discussed in the video. We've included our favorite sizes, sink rates, and colors where applicable. We've also included some great rod and reel combos to help you land that trophy fish. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

      @@mokranegheddou7824 same, dude. would have easily been my pb. came off 10ft away...and I had her on a beast hook so it hurt even more when she came off lol. But I did catch 3 other really nice fish close to my pb in the last few weeks so it's been a good prespawn period for me. fish are moving up super early this year for me(north texas) so it's looking like that amazing cold water prespawn bite is done for the year

    ! Thanks Tim, you already seen me bragging you guys up on SB Universe but it's true, you guys changed the way I fish. Watching you two throw Swimbaits made me take the leap in 2016 and I haven't looked back. I'm actually going to scale back this prespawn and throw more jerkbaits, jigs, and lipless baits, mixed in with Swimbaits. It's hard for me to put them down sometimes.

    I made some plaster molds and put a 10” tail on a 8” bait. (810)
    I also made a 6” tail and soaked it in water until it bloated to a 7” size tail and made a mold of that to put back on the 6” bait. (67)
    I’ve also put 6” tails on castiac 4” baits that worked well jigging on the bottom pre Dark Sleeper.
    With Plaster of Paris, non-stick cooking spray, mend it and recycled plastics you can start experimenting with Frankbaits.

    As a Megabass fan boy, I gotta mention the Destroyer Black Jack for glides as well as plastic swimbaits, has power yet a parabolic side to it as well. Skipping docks the Tequila Baccarac is a really good one. As far as S-waver 168's and I-slide 185's I like the Launcher in the Orochi-XX line. It throws up to 2 ounces, is 7'11" and has that nice parabolic side to it for keeping em pinned, yet has enough backbone when you hook a giant. It is a deep crank rod, so it's pretty stout.
    Good video as always!

    Hey guys love your videos and tackle talks. I’ve learned so much about swim baiting just bought an 8 inch Huddleston last year to try to catch my biggest largemouth bass.Tomorrow’s the first day of march and now that’s it’s warmed up enough to take out our Jon boat I’m planning to target a local trout stocked lake just got to pick out some good flourocarbin line. I’ve already caught the Wv state record smallmouth and largemouth bass but didn’t realize what I had 17 some years ago in my early twenties. The two 10lb largemouth from two different ponds both came on light mono a big bobber and live bait. My biggest smallie was caught on a trout magnet jig head 4lb test mono and a live 2 inch crawfish on my 4ft6 ultra light. Kind of funny cause it broke my line on the hook set because of my cheaper reel not the drag the bell was damage or something and I had to hand line her in kind of like Matt’s pb largemouth. I released her and Walmart stole my pictures of her. I know right. Haven’t targeted smallmouth much since then till last year. My girlfriend and I went back to the same body of water April 15th 2022 and she caught the IFGA world record freshwater smallmouth bass in the female 4lb test line category on a 6 inch live white sucker a plain shank size 1 hook and her 3ft dock demon rod. Her fish was 20 and a quarter inches long I didn’t know to girth the fish but I’m sure it was around 16 inch and it was 4.4 kilograms in weight. When we took it to the DNR office to weigh it the fish biologist wasn’t there so we were not able to have it certified and recognized. I had it mounted for her because it was still the second biggest smallmouth I’ve ever seen in person. When I got it back it was only 19 inches and 11 inch girth it was not the same fish in fact the taxidermist did a better job on his best smallmouth witch was 19 inches and 6lbs. So I’m having a pro from Canada do a replica for her because I know how special her fish really was. I also saw what I think could be the Wv state record spotted bass in that same body of water so we might try that one late April or May because we have a trout trip planned for April. A lot of fishing this year more than any other so far. Thank you guys so much for all your videos, advice and everything. Have a great year guys good luck and Keep Reeling them in!

    I will always google the body of water in question, and add the words "fish species" after the water's name in the search. Bodies of water will often have some documentation on it, stating all of the fish species, depths, rough topography maps, and date of the survey. Its not always 100% accurate, as things change over the years, but is a great starting point, especially for initial color selections.

    Man I wish I could drop $400 on a do all rod. Im guess the Fury series 795 would be for treble baits and like 6 inch style jig baits and the 806 would be for strictly bigger jig hook style baits? I have the 795 but I want to start throwing 8 inch jig baits and bigger glides. Im thinking Ill need the 806 for the big jig style and another rod for the bigger glides. So im in a pickle. Do I just get the $400 for the bigger stuff? Or buy two more cheaper rods for $100 less?
    Im pretty mush a minimalist when it comes to fishing. I hate bringing the whole arsenal out with me.

    It's always swimbait time of the year! Definitely have good opportunities with females coming shallow for spawn. I think alot guys don't throw the bigger swim baits enough & get turned off by not getting bites like fishing regular baits. You definitely have to have a different mindset throwing bigger bait! Be willing to go day or 2 without a bite or only couple bites a day. They throw them for hour then put them up grab something thier comfortable with. To me it's worth less bites for getting big ones!!! I still haven't gotten a burrito yet need get couple.

    I have been using a musky rod from bass pro for years for huddlestons and other 2-6oz jig hook Swimbaits. I’m a kayak fisherman and I know that while in a kayak you have to factor in the movement of your boat. I can’t carry more than 5 rods comfortably. I like to use s-wavers and wakes too. Being on a kayak I have to have rods that will do multiple things. If I go to that SLX Swimbait rod will it do the job for the burrito and some of the med glide/wake baits. Tackle management matters a lot too being on a kayak so I can only afford 1 3700 tackle box for each rod. I want to set up something so I can have my swimbaits ready. I fish the lower Chattahoochee. Any recommendations considering these factors.

    Excellent video. I am looking for a rod that I can use to throw 5 in Burritos, 6 in Magdraft Freestyles, in the Expride series. The 7 ft 7 heavy is a moderate I believe. Which rod in the lineup would you recommend for these baits?

  • @codywilliams348
    @codywilliams348 Рік тому

    Learned a lot from the video, thanks! I’m new to swim bait fishing. Just curious about two things. First, why is such heavy braid recommended when throwing swim baits? Second, if I’m throwing smaller (5-6 in) swim baits do you still recommend using a 300 size casting reel or could I get manage with a 200 size until I’m able to invest in a 300?

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  Рік тому +5

      A 200 is fine for smaller swimbaits and the heavy line is for the casting, not for fighting the fish. These baits are heavy and a backlash will send them sailing into the sunset if you try light braid. Just trust us on this one 👍🏼

    • @Grand-Massive
      @Grand-Massive Рік тому +1

      If you mess up a cast and backlash your line is going to snap and your fifty plus dollar lure will go flying a hundred yards and never bee seen again.

    • @MrCobb-rq8iv
      @MrCobb-rq8iv Рік тому

      @@tacticalbassin I would agree to a point. That said a well adjusted spool and brake will not snarl until you try the snap cast for distance. I have learned of late not to add much effort until the very end of the cast. The inertia to a static spool RPM should increase consistently upward. A snap cast always starts unraveling flutter deep within the spool. Of late the very wide or shallow spools on BFS reels and very soft rods will reduce the RPM when filled full and a good 80 yard cast is possible with 10 lb. or less braid. A deep spool reel with little heavy line on it is not snarl resistant with the high RPM it takes for a long cast. I always use a flouro to braid leader of ten plus feet and my Albright knot passes the level winder with ease. YMMV.
