Thanks Joshua, I have had my Kinu 47 Classic that I purchased from you, three weeks now, And I could not be Happier, I use 1.4 for Expresso moka pot, and Aeropress, Twenty four, for pour overs, While it works flawlessly, its just so much fun to Use, Clean, And just play with watching the handle spin round, I just put in an order for a Acaia pearl , Stay safe, Glen
How does Kinu's proprietary burr coating compare to a TITANIUM layer or naked STAINLESS STEEL? How does this STEPPED grinder compare to the STEPLESS Knock Feld47?
A majority of burr coating will act in a very similar way. I've not heard of any one particular coating standing out entirely different from the rest. Coating certainly assist with the hardness and sharpness of a burr, and thus will create a consistent reliable grinding performance that is better than non-coating. The stepped adjustments on the KINU are hardly noticeable as the changes are so close together it's almost stepless.
Thank you so much for your videos. I just bought the classic model and I love this beautiful machine. The thing is I was wondering how to disable that subtle clicking sensation you mentioned. Could you do a video about this issue?
Bought kinu m47 classic. When I set the burrs to 0, the grinder continues to rotate easily, is it normal that they are not in contact with each other when the adjusting wheel is fully turned. On all my previous models, the millstones were in contact with each other and there was no rotation. Also in one of the reviews of kinu m47 classic, when the adjusting wheel was turned to 0, there was no rotation. Do you also?
Enjoyed the informative video on Kinu M47. Now that there is an alternative pour over burr, would you kindly suggest what would be the ideal setting for French Press on Kinu M47 and pour over burr please?

I ordered the M47 Phoenix model. It was shipped from Germany and arrived in a week. I read over the instructions the evening before I planned to use it. The setup seemed simple, but the grinder produced only a few fines and then locked up. I was puzzled but decided to set it aside til later in the day when I could check out UA-cam videos for some guidance. The grinder is still unused, the dial setting locked tight. I have no way to hold a backup on the lower end of the shaft as I try to back off on the dial nut on the top. Any advice on this?
I am so sorry for my overdue response. I ordered my Kinu M47 through my friend who owns a local coffee shop in my region. I enjoyed its performance since day one and I liked it. I’ve using it for 3 1/2 years now it never failed me. It’s kind a pricey but it’s worth it. Blessings from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Great channel! You wrote V60 setting as 3.4.0, is this same when using pour over replacement burr? And past comment, you said the best coarse coffee grinder is Comandante. How do you feel Kinu with pour over replacement burr?
Thank you - I haven't got my hand on the Pour over replacement Burrs but in looking at the detail of them on-line I would expect they'd perform better at coarser settings just looking at the clump crusher and geometry of them
Love the product. Thinking of getting Simplicity one. One concern though, is it easy to find parts if needed? I hardly find retailers online who carry parts. And to order directly from Kinu, it costs a lot on shipping. Also, if I’m mainly drinking coffee from Mokka pot with occasionally espresso, do you think that Simplicity is over the top for what I need? Perhaps, Comandante is good enough. On the plus side, easier to find parts. Thank you in advance for your feedback
Either will grind excellent coffee for a Moka Pot.. and parts for the KINU I wouldn't be too concerned about... they are very durable grinders, and unless you expect to be dropping it or throwing off a building there's not much you need to replace on it. - the comandante on the other hand - does have glass catcher and plastic lid that can break a little easier hence why theres replacements of these readily available
Hi AMir, I'd be looking at around a 3.1.0 - 3.6.0. (a little finer than paper filter) That's a ballpark setting and you can adjust between this, depending on flavour and speed of draw down.
Hi. Currently I use timemore chestnut slim. I often use the max 30 clicks to grind 8g light roast beans for french press, and I put the grounds to Jinsei coffee strainer to get consistent coffee grounds. But I lost about 1g grounds due to too many fine-medium grounds. Is this normal? How about this grinder? Can I get very consistent coarse without strainer? Sorry for my English.
I would say, yes it is a good grinder for coarse coffee - but the best I have experience for coarse ground is actually the Comandante 👌 Kinu does very well at Espresso grinding
Hi, fantastic explanation. For some days I try to dial the Kinu M47 with La Pavoni (51 mm basket). What can you suggest, what kind of settings: 2.2.0 or smaller? We see your channel is a "geek" channel for geeks, i hope, I can learn from You. Keep filming!
Yes, definitely thank you! 2.2.0 sounds like a great starting point. the range I'd imagine to be around 1.7.0 to 2.5.0, so anywhere in this should provide good results - especially with a Lever machine where you can also control the flow rate ...
You could go up to around 6.5, 6.8 before it begins unscrewing the top nut and releasing the adjuster, and I'd be cautious around these coarser settings as you may find more play in the grinder overall.
Why is it that I can't buy this anywhere? Did they stop making these? And if I ever find one what is the setting If you are going to be using an Aero Press Brewer?..Thank you
no - i'd say it's because its a relatively specialised Coffee grinder that not everyone is willing to invest in. I would use a setting of 3.5.0 or upwards for Aeropress 👍
That can happen. Roasted beans have different densities depending on a few factors and this will change how they grind, how hard it is to grind them and the noise 👍
For portability it's a no brainer - for adjustments on the fly - I think the Kinu has it too. The ROK is a great Benchtop Grinder - esp. for espresso.. but it's a little hefty for you're average hand grinder - It's somewhere in between a hand crank and an automatic one. Grind comparison - I've not yet done this
My sentiment as well, awesome quality through, then top it off with a plastic knob… seems to be a good secondary market opportunity to create better higher quality options to help add a touch of personal flair to it as well.
Hi. Kinu M47 Classic user here. With standard burr set I am grinding between 1.5.0-1.7.0 range for espresso. I would like to try out my new filter burr set for cold brew. Where should I start? 4 full rotation is too much?
Cold Brew? No I would say Cold Immersion can have a quite a flexible coarse grind size depending on how you're filtering out the grinds. Drip will be around the 4.0.0+ yes. That's a good start 👌
This grinder is a beauty but with a design flaw. It is too smooth to get a proper grip; the attached finger grip appears to be an afterthought. It does not work, consequently I have an ongoing strain on the tendon of the left thumb. For that reason alone I gave the grinder two stars on the ratings chart. However you will not see that on the AB web site as it appears they don't brook negative reviews. I have ordered, at extra cost, the silicon sleeve to see if that helps.
Hi Peter, thank you so much for your review. This is one of those grinders, that gets very little in the way of negative feedback. It is manufactured so well, and it's certainly our most expensive hand grinder, as such it's quite a commitment. No product I guess is without some fault though. I'm I am in agreeance with you, that Kinu should really add the Grip in their with their grinders - as is the case with most other HGs.
This thing is a monster. The precision is epic. Got a used one so I wasn’t spending so much but it’s as you’d expect for a hand grinder costing $300+
Your enthusiasm for the product really makes the review exciting and I really like that.
With an average of 6 shots/day the additional workout is brilliant. I love it.
Totally agree!

When reassembling after cleaning how do you get back to zero setting?
You just need to adjust the wheel as fine as it will go and the marker will point to 0 when this is done and that's how it is calibrated.
