Have had this grinder ever since @primacoffee first got it in stock (early Dec 2019 I think) and have been using it daily for espresso, v60 and aeropress. Love how hefty it feels and how quickly it gets through the beans. I kinda like the static catching the fines as Steve mentioned, it does improve the cup quality for a 30g pour-over setting. The guys at Prima answered all the questions I had, since I was also considering the Kinu Phoenix at the time. The fact that it got to me a few days earlier than estimated made for a wonderful holiday surprise too :)

How long does it take to get through 20g at a fine espresso grind?

jonathan pareja depends on your budget and brew method. For pour over mainly I’d say probably comandante. For espresso the Phoenix and simplicity will have the same grind quality, simplicity just has more steel components where as the Phoenix has a bit more plastic. I’m not a big fan of plastic, so if you don’t mind spending and extra 70$ or so get this one

Mark YT depends on how light your beans are. A nice developed medium roast will take you 30 seconds or so, if it’s pretty light I’d say about 45 seconds

Thanks for this video. I was on the fence between the Kinu Simplicity and Comandante. This video really helps me decide between the two. Since I mostly do V60 and occasionally French press I’ll go with the Comandante. Now I just need you to get more in stock ;)

I drink siphon primarily which is a medium coarse. Would you recommend this grinder?

I'm set on buying a Kinu grinder (as my only manual grinder) but on the fence between Simplicity and Phoenix. What would you recommend between the two?

It really depends on what features you're looking for. The Simplicity has a slightly smaller hopper capacity, a thumb stopper instead of a silicone grip, and an auto-centering mechanism that improves burr alignment. The Phoenix has a more simplified axle stabilization system.

@@primacoffeeequipment I'm looking for something I can use while I travel and when I brew at home, in school or in the office. So I guess more of an investment work-horse really that I can use in the long-run.

Would you recommend the Kinu Simplicity over the Comandante, for Moka pot and Espresso?

Not necessarily. They are both great grinders for espresso. We find that for many it comes down to the form of the grinders when making a choice. The Comandante can handle a wide range of grind settings, while we have found that the flavory quality drops with coarser grinds when it comes to the Simplicity. So, if you aren't concerned with any other grind settings than espresso, both would be a great choice.
