You really should hear Pavarotti do this same song. Opera is not something I listen to everyday, but it's hard not to like Pavarotti.
That said, I'm always amazed what Rob accomplished when he is 15 years out of training. While Austin uses a crossover theatrical style it was definitely the right choice to take advantage of his strengths.

@@redheadedneighbor I would also recommend Che Gelida Manina as sung by Luciano Pavarotti. It's gorgeous in my opinion. If you like female voices then, I'd recommend "Il Dolce Suono" sung by a young lady named Pretty Yende. The former is a love song and the latter is a tragedy song. Rob is more operatic, whilst Austin is a little bit more what we'd call "Pop Opera". He hits the notes, but there is nuance there in the position of the soft palette and note placement.

The talents and skills within the Home Free pool are deep and wide. Rob and Austin didn't try....they did. Opera is something Rob has had extensive training in. His vocal instructors in college wanted him to pursue a career in opera, but he chose not to. Austin's vocal training is in musical theater, so he did a fine performance as well. I love how the members of Home Free are fearless in trying new things all the time. Either individually or as a group. They are my favorite musicians. Everyone has their genres that just don't work for them. I personally detest rap and hip hop. But occasionally, Home Free tosses in a little rap or hip hop into a couple of their songs, and I have to say, they made it palatable Loved your reaction, as usual.

I’m not an opera fan either, but I sure enjoyed hearing these two talented men sing it! I never knew about Rob’s opera training prior to seeing this video so I was totally blown away more by him than Austin. We know they both have amazing voices, but I never imagined I would hear Rob sing like that! Austin has music theater training and can really belt it out. If you want to hear a strong partly-led Rob Home Free cover, one of Rob’s best (in my opinion) is their Boyz2Men cover of “End of the Road”!

The differences in their voices you hear is the difference in their training. Rob had classical training and Austin is musical theater. That is a very good ear you have to be able to detect that. (All knowledge about their training is from comments on other reactions.)
Keep on keepin' on, young lady.

    • @patriciamcl54
      @patriciamcl54 6 місяців тому +5

Sorry but no. Austin and Rob could have had identical training and would still have had different voices, one a heavy Italianate tenor and one a lyric tenor with rare "spinto" (incisiveness). It's a matter of what equipment you were born with, just plain old physiology. It doesn't really take that much of an ear to tell one sort of tenor from another. Try comparing eg Pavarotti with Jose Carreras.
Not sure where this idea came up that music theatre training is just like episodes of Glee, when in fact it's more like extended boot camp. Someone who knows the course that Austin took commented here that all voice students, opera and music theatre, had the same classical voice lessons and all had to prepare the audition pieces for all the college's shows. In fact Austin's tutors wanted him to switch to opera, knowing that there is so much work for a lyric tenor.

So happy you took a chance and exposed yourself to THIS opera piece by our two tenors from Home Free. Actually you did good pronouncing Nessun Dorma. Those who know opera and know this piece were blown away by their performance. Like you I was never much of an opera fan and my previous exposure has been in cartoons, but this one has grown on me as I watch others react to it. County singers just don't do opera as a general rule. Rob sang opera in college and Austin was trained in classical theater, but that was many years ago and it goes to show just how talented and versatile they truly are. Now you need to check out Home Free's Sea Shanty Medley (Live Version is best. You get to see how they do in concert.) and Chances original sea shanty, Skull & Bones. Their live version at Summer Game Fest is the best though slightly shorter. But in that one you can see who is doing what which is very helpful. The Lyric version uses scenes from the game but does not show them singing. They do have some instruments in addition to Adam's beat boxing. What ever you react to next of theirs, I'll be here to watch. Happy New year and welcome to 2024.

Welcome to Rob's voice when it isn't held back. I was always amazed with reactors who never heard the restraint that Rob always has. Have you met Gospel Rob, yet?
Austin did a fine job (if nasal in a few areas), as well.
It was a nice classical/musical theater crossover. This aria is not actually a duet in the opera, they just did it as one because, why not.

Thought ya might have a different feel once ya started listening : ) ... Prior to this release -- same as you, 'cept I can remember a TV ad on Pavarotti's tour with some clips, those exact clips (of Bugs) always came to mind when the mention of Opera came up!!! : ) Not a bad thing really, damn good memories! Now, well -- THIS is what I know... and the comments of reactors "who know" ... and are blown away! They got our attention with this one!!!! : ) Be Safe

When I first heard this, it took me a while to believe that I was hearing Rob's voice - it seemed so different I thought that perhaps he was lip syncing to a track. But I got over that when they sung the duet at the end. They did a wonderful job on this ! Really enjoying your reactions ! Keep 'em coming pretty lady !

You pretty much nailed the name. Nessoon Dorma. Rob has a more classical Opera sound but Austin does an amazing job with a more heady voice (and there are Opera singers that do sing more up and forward like that but traditionally it is a taller sound. if you think of Rob singing this you can think of the sound starting in his pelvis and echoing all the way up through his throat and out his mouth. Austin is a bit more constricted with the sound forming closer to his head and then being projected out his mouth. Both powerful though and their pronunciation is close to perfect. Opera is, traditionally, sung without amplification/microphones and that might be where you'd notice more of a difference between the two but this is an epic performance.)

The differences between is that Rob is an Operatic Tenor & Austin is a Lyric Tenor. Rob has the more powerful voice & Austin has the higher voice. But, they both perform this exceptionally well.

To help with the Italian lyrics, consider a Dan Vasc version with English TRANSLATION shown as it is sung. ua-cam.com/video/8ZkFeS9milM/v-deo.html Here is the love story behind "Nessun Dorma" (“None Shall Sleep.") : It's sung by an unknown prince who immediately is smitten when he tried to win the hand of a beautiful princess in marriage. Upon first seeing her, he alone correctly answered all the riddles she posed to her many suiters. She does not want to marry him, but must, unless she can discover his identity by morning. She orders all her subjects to stay awake all night to learn his name. As he watches the night sky he shouts out his love to the princess and to the stars. He tells the stars to ready themselves for the dawn. He's so convinced that if he simply kisses her mouth and whispers his name to her, she will fall in love with him. He will melt her cold heart and win her love at the break of dawn. At the end he shouts “I will win” (‘Vincero"’). Dan is NOT an opera singer, but he portrays the message with a passion anyone can see and feel. Dan is better known as a Brazilian heavy metal singer who can fervently deliver almost any music genre. He even added a couple extra ‘Vinceros’ at the end. This is one of the few arias that most non-opera fans can tolerate. I think you'll like this aria even more if you understand the lyrics and see them translated in real time.

I'm no opera fan either but I appreciated their even attempting that difficult aria. I'll never look at either one of them again as far as their talent goes. Those boys can SING! Anything. Try Luciano Pavarotti sings "Nessun dorma" to hear how it is "supposed" to sound. Personally, I prefer the "boys" version.@@redheadedneighbor

This is a solo aria, not a tag team duet. Please look up a translation beforehand when you react to a foreign language. It is not cheating. Actually it is showing respect for the singer and composer.

Take it from another bugs bunny opera fan, the boys did a very plausible job doing opera. I've heard the Italian was very good for a non Italian and the singing, especially from Robb was also very good. Opera relies on projection and breath control as they don't use microphones and they did project their voices and such. I enjoyed it. That's all folks....
