Thanks for watching. Cheers
Thank you. 57 year old guy and I am quite literally in tears right now. I have always felt that this is one of the saddest, most mournful and beautiful songs ever written. Looking forward to someday being able to get through it without falling apart.
I felt like that the whole time I was working on this...
this was the first song I heard (just recently too) by The Tragically Hip. Just yesterday I watched your Ahead by a century lesson and decided I needed to dig into the Hip... can't stop. How did I miss this? Omg I am overwhelmed. Just fantastically fabulous...move over Pearl Jam!!!
If you think this is good listen to some Alice in Chains, Nutshell is amazing
lots of people (especially in the US) somehow missed out on the The Hip...why they didn't make it bigger south of the border is head scratching for me
Fantastic and a unbelievably beautiful song. Lessons are superbly structured so that even a old man like myself can at least follow and come close to playing. At 64 years of age, the hands don't quite move like they used to but that's ok. Thank you so much for the lessons. I'm retired and between this and.Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, you have kept me busy for the last 6 months. Once again, thank you!. By the way, that open E is a beast on your finger tips for a while but it is worth the pain. Wow what a sound even on my cheap Alvarez!
I cant say thank you enough for your expert lessons and Im really impressed with how exact they are to the original tune. Not easy figuring out guitar work especially in open tuning. Back in the day we would listen to records with the speed turned down to try to figure out the notes played. UA-cam has made this a heck of a lot easier. I'm 57 and retired and was devastated when Gord passed away. I learned Ahead by a Century from your vid and it took me a year to get the vocals and guitar down nice. Gotta admit I would have a tear during the song when I would think about Gord and the boys. Their songs met a lot to our family. My kids and I would sing hip tunes in the car on the way home from day care. You are right Rob really does a good job on his guitar parts. Not 1 4 5 progression all the time. Im not going to ask you for a song. Its a lot of work Im sure. You are a master musician and us fans look forward to more of your amazing videos. Thank you again.
Amen Steve
Andy is the best...He has brought to light nuance I just didnt get or hear before in many songs I've played for years. I love open tunings and frankly some of my favourite songs are in open tunings. These days instead of Open E, I tend use Open D and capo at the 2nd Fret. I don't like it as much as natural open E but it puts less stress on the guitar if I'm leaving in that tuning for any length of time...and I can quickly go back and forth between both tunings.
I've listened to exactly 2:36 of this lesson, the first of yours, and I already know you're my favourite teacher i've found for acoustic. Your name says it all, your words are only used when needed. Even your backdrop is a great idea, focusing on hands and guitar only. Thank you so much for these tutorials i'm spending the night with
I'm sure you have heard it many times, but again, thank you soooooo very much for your time and teaching these lessons. Sincerely, It is so very appreciated!! I will be donating.
Just spent a half hour on your Moonlight Mile lesson. Gave me a lot of confidence on a song I absolutely love. Thought I'd peruse your other lessons and I am so thrilled to see not just any Hip song, but this beauty. As a Canadian amateur guitarist I'm over the moon!
Wow! Extremely comprehensive guide for playing this song. I can't even call it a tutorial because it leaves ample room for improvisation. This is great, thank you!
Thanks Andy, one of my favourite Hip songs. Beautiful.
Man you always challenge me. Time to bust out the old ovation and throw on the open tuning. Then obsess for a couple of months ! Thanks for posting 🤙🏻✌🏼
Thanks so much for this! I’ve never tried open tuning till today and I can’t wait to get the playing and vocals out together!
Thanks so much!
Oddly enough a 3 alarm fire this past week at the Fiddler's Green Pub in San Fran closed this historic Tavern which with stood the 1906 Quake. Thx for the lesson !!!
Thank you for making this. You are right about the extra meaning for Canadians as well, especially those of us that grew up with the Hip.
Thanks for the lesson. I miss them so much.
Fantastic lesson of an exceptional song. Thank you so much!
Great lesson on a great song!
Thanks my friend. Great sounding guitar. 🤙🏻
Very well put together lesson. Thankyou.
Wonderful video about an incredible TH song. Fiddlers green was first referenced in an old civil war U.S. Cavalry song:
Halfway down the trail to hell
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
Gordon uses it as he often does in reference to sailors and nautical themes.
Excellent lesson. Thanks
Thank you for talking the time to make this video. I am greatful
Sounds like a lot but it isn't haha. Love the song and the lesson, thanks so much. It's gonna take me awhile to get this one down but I appreciate your dedication to instruction in these videos 🤙 Cheers
You are by far one of the BEST tutorial instructors on youtube! And I have been playing guitar for 25 years now. Please keep up the fantastic lessons
one of? lol
beautiful song well done
Thanks for this, man. Great song.
Excellent, God I love this song!
Thanks for the lesson! When you are playing the B chord (A string), instead of muting the E string, you can throw in an F# with your thumb occasionally. It's the 5th of B...
Excellent!
This guy's the best!
Could you please do more beatles please? And also keep up the great lessons!
Awesome.
Great lesson as usual! Any Blue Rodeo or Kim Mitchell in the works for us? Thanks again for making the vids!!

*To those learning a Hip guitar song - Hip songs are very freeform. There is no "exactly" tab*
The Tragically Hip is a jam band. Oftentimes, guitars will move from strictly Lead/rhythm to something like 1A/1B. Sometimes, it can be hard to tell who was actually who
For example: Fiddler's Green.
Here, the Lead guitarist plays mostly Rhythm parts... on Acoustic. But, Rhythm, is played by the usual guitarist on Acoustic. Both guitarists can play licks.
*So if you want to sound like the Hip, you're going to have to learn how to improvise licks, like this video.*
Thank you, I love this one!!
Great Canadian song!
could you make "echoes" by pink floyd lesson? it would be awesome man xx
Please do a Rush song! 'Freewill' would be cool!
Could you teach New Orleans is Sinking, it’s a really good song.
New guitar?
Is there a tab somewhere for this?
U know the hip as well as u know the guitar...even the varities on how Fiddlers is played live..ie..harmonics
Can you please make a take it easy from the eagles lesson and teach both lead and rithm guitars
Hey Rodrigo. It's unlikely I'll ever do any Eagles tunes again. All the ones I've done have either been banned or hijacked by the Eagles lawyers and publishing companies. Cheers
Andy
Don strikes again.
What model taylor is that your playing. Sounds like a 600 series maple back and sides
There's a link to my gear page in the description box below each video. I list everything I use there. Cheers
Please do Calico Skies by Paul McCartney!!!
Thanks for reminding me! I've been meaning to do it but keep getting distracted with other tunes. Cheers
Andy
ALWAYS ON THE RUN by Lenny Kravitz. PLEEEEEEAAAAAASE.
Was wondering what you thought about tuning to open D and capo to E for this song?
Thanks great video as always
You wouldn't be able to play the hammer on licks in the song with a capo on 2.. well you could but it'd be a pain and wouldn't ring so clear
You wouldn't be able to play the hammer on licks in the song with a capo on 2.. well you could but it'd be a pain and wouldn't ring so clear
While tuning for open E, I broke my 4th string on my steel string acoustic and my nylon string classical guitar. I'd love to play this but its not happenin! 😒
I restringed both guitars and have now down tuned to "Open E" but...not sure what you would really call this technically. I'll call it Open E safe string tuning: D A D F# A D
not sure what are calling your 4th string...fourth from Bottom (low) E (G) or forth from Top (high) E (D) You can also tune to Open D and capo at the 2nd Fret. but you shouldn't be breaking a D or a G string.
@@uTubeJRod Not sure what you are saying?
Well that's easier than normal tuning. 😂
Dire straits
Idk how to tune ghat
