With headphones on you can definitely tell he’s playing the same chords on the album version. So yes, he’s playing it correctly but not in key. The major chords he plays and minor key do not clash well. It worked for other songs he’s done in the past like Dead Souls or She’s Lost Control but it doesn’t work here.
I don't understand this. On that stage there were 3 people who clearly knew what they were doing, and another person with a guitar out of tune doing his best to ruin the whole song. Why didn't the 3 people said to themselves "Look... if we get rid of this guy who can't play and can't sing, and find someone else half decent, we might get to make more money than the Hacienda is robbing us." To quote Peter Saville: "New Order is not New Order's band. It is Bernard Sumner's band, and they are all the worse for it because of it."
