Lyrics
I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
I don't care 'cause I'm not there
And I don't care if I'm here tomorrow
Again and again I've taken too much
Of the things that cost you too much
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun
When I was a very small boy
Very small boys talked to me
Now that we've grown up together
They're afraid of what they see
That's the price that we all pay
And the value of destiny comes to nothing
I can't tell you where we're going
I guess there was just no way of knowing
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun
I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
The chances are we've gone too far
You took my time and you took my money
Now I fear you've left me standing
In a world that's so demanding
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun

What's amazing is how far mtv has sold out since then. Instead of music videos, they push progressive authoritarianism and soul crushing reality shows that pimp greed.

"When I was a very small boy, very small boys talked to me" is such a deep, compelling, and emotional lyric. I replay it over and over.
Why
Because when we were just little children, we were all equals. Now we're grown up and someone's your boss or your customer, someone's poorer or richer than you. People will judge your religion or treat you differently because of your colour. That's just how the world works. But we all had a time - around when we were toddlers - that we could talk and play with each other without caring who they are. (that's my understanding of it anyway)
You are spot on. Adulting is hard work.
This song came out when I was 13, I got it then and I get it even more now.
@@narananas7671what you wrote is beautiful and describes the human experience very well. ❤
@@narananas7671So well-written. I agree. I see it similar to you. When you're a kid, you're in a world of children where they will open up to you and let you into their world in a way they don't do with adults. It takes me back to my childhood. It's a simpler world, where mutual kindness is everything. There are no jobs, labels, status....your reputation is everything. This lyric cuts right through me emotionally.

I'm 14 years old. And I can't agree with you enough. My generation's music sucks and I practically live off 80's and 90's tunes. RIP decent music.
Try bands like Wild Nothing or Craft Spells! ☺
I believe that new music is so crappy because it can no longer be original. It’s also been monetized and so the magic in music has died. So I just listen to the “oldies”. My parents told me I was an old soul while I was growing up, and it’s true by the way I dress and the music I listen too lol. 80’s and 90’s goth right here!
😂😂😂 okay
Music is only a reflection of the times. Take that however you wish
I'm here because I just like New Order.
How progressive New Order and Joy Division were for their respective time impresses the hell out of me.
Always heard this on the radio growing up, but I have so much more appreciation for it today!
This could have been released yesterday. It still feels fresh and modern - except that it way better than most modern music.
Still rocking this in 2024
43 year old here, music I grew up to 😊
Just think this song is 37 years old and still beats most songs released today. That's equivalent of the Tennessee Waltz released in 1950 by Patti Page doing well in 1987.
These guys are pioneers. Awesome song. We had it so good in the 80s with all the great music that I think we took it for granted.
Totally agree
Just a classic!!!!
I was born in 91'
My childhood was the waning yrs of epic music.
By the time i was 17 the state of music was already turning into marketed propaganda.
There was great songs in the 80s but so much shit too. So artificial and no depth. It overshadowed the great alternative hits tbh
@@deathbeforedecaf7755 any other songs you can recommend me?
How many memories this song evokes in me: I am italian, I was 16 years old, in Italy few people knew it and I melted the audio cassette from listening to it. Now, I can't listen to it without feeling a lump in my throat. Thank you New Order.
Luca I'm italian too, you fully described what I feel everytime I listen to this song❤ incredibile years for outstanding songs
So much better than today's music.
Lyrics☺
I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
I don't care 'cause I'm not there
And I don't care if I'm here tomorrow
Again and again I've taken too much
Of the things that cost you too much
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun
When I was a very small boy
Very small boys talked to me
Now that we've grown up together
They're afraid of what they see
That's the price that we all pay
And the value of destiny comes to nothing
I can't tell you where we're going
I guess there was just no way of knowing
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun
I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
The chances are we've gone too far
You took my time and you took my money
Now I fear you've left me standing
In a world that's so demanding
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun
Crazy how they went from joy division and reinvented themselves as new order and both bands are awesome

Absolutely addicted to this song
Now aged 61 and loving this era I grew up in 😁👍🎵
The song has a melancholic vibe that... really hits
Hats off to these guys, in 4 years time, this song will be 40 years old - ahead of their time....
DEC 2020 and still rocking this.
for real lol
same
Yes!!!
..Rocking this this jam for life.in my top 20..👍
Why wouldn’t you be?
The 1980's music video scene was such a vibe that the avant garde art style gave us such surreal aspects as this as well as Patrick Nagel, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. I'm glad I got to see this music video when it first came out on MTV back 1987.
Even as an old man, this song strikes cord in me.
Your not old my friend...your ALIVE...!!!....enjoy
Fk yeah what a choon! I moved to the US 24 years ago and today my now 19-year old had this song stuck in her head like a worm. She wasn't even a thought when this was out. So happy my kids love the good stuff!!!
An aux cord? Or a 220~240V kettle cord? :D
Telephone cord. In days gone by, every kid knew exactly how far the telephone cord could reach. That’s why so many mothers became expert shoe throwers.
Thumbs up if you don't get enough of this New Order song in 2023
I was born in 1969, OMG
This song is great, yesterday my wife caught me dancing it like there is no tomorrow.
She said DAMN THAT'S A GOOD SONG and joined me lmao
Greetings from Peru 🇵🇪

My favorite New Order song. A New Wave Masterpiece and a 80s Pop Classic.
the 80's literally ROCKED!
You got that right🤘
I miss it sooo much!!
gmctech best era of music of all time
Wrong. The 80's everythinged. Thats what was so great about that era, every type of music was exploding, all at once. Metallica and Skinny Puppy at the same time, and those are just two examples.
@@johnturtle6649 and people were listening to all of it. I was a HUGE Duran Duran fan, but i loved Metallica and Def Leppard, too.
New Order at their peak. Love it!
Been obsessed with 80s music my whole life (I’m 21.) my dad happened to show me this song to add to the collection and I have to say, I’ve had this on repeat for the past 2 weeks because of him. Thanks dad ❤️
Love people like us! I'm 25 and I just love all 80's music thanks to my parents. Way better than today's music.
I’m 20 and been into it the last few years, new music is completely trash 99% of the time so I’ve looked back instead
@@deadlyracer46 only good things you will find in the music world by going back!
I’m 17 and absolutely love 80s and 90s music thanks to my dad mainly
@@liamclark9097 that's awesome!

Sadly i have to thank watchmojo
Thank you my mother and father, cause of you I was born and bred in Manchester that’s how I found this song.
The band has balls of titanium debuting this masterpiece at Gastonbury!
The best song of the 1980s.
Probably my favorite song from New Order
I love this song. I dedicated it to my mate Andy, when he lost his life in a freak motorcycle accident. That was many years ago now, but I still see him, when I hear this.
F
Rock on the two Andys
That’s really sweet - I’m sure he’d appreciate that 😊
This song sounded so futuristic and sophisticated to my four year old ears. It aged well.
I find it utterly impossible to hear this song without singing along to it, this has been going on for a quarter of a century now.
+Geoff Green So true!
+Geoff Green Funny you say that. I can barely go to any show, hear a song I like and not sing along to it. Then I have no memory of the performance at all. Fuck me. Same with every Depeche Mode show.
This song was awarded best video in 1987,great video to a GREAT song, bring back the 80s 😢, greetings from Ireland.
Still spinning this record in 2020, anyone else?
Yep
Yep. Best pop song ever!
Great!!!
I'll be spinning it for a long time to come, yet another cracking song from a fantastic band, never get tired of listening to them!
