Wow. A charged, fantastic performance of this underrated song. And Barney playing through his old Vox AC30 and exorcising spirits through that guitar. Best band ever to me.
One of NO's best songs. I wish they'd revive it for their current tours. Bernard's guitar is white hot, Hooky's bass is powerful, Steve's drumming is ferocious, and Gillian's synths are ominous. Thanks for this video! Let's see it live again!!
Absolutely one of their best. The power and venom are contagious. That moody Joy Div style downer start from Gillian on the keyboard into Hooky's best bass riff with Bernard's snarling guitar. That strat sound is perfect for this and then there's Stephen's thundering metronomic drums: what a hero that guy is... I love this. Hooky's playing is superb throughout.
I was at the gig and it was a bit subdued before this song. But as soon as the intro to Sunrise càme in people went crazy and rushed to the front. It was a song everyone loved. It was so crowded i had to stay at the back so can’t see my 19 year old self on then then unimagined youtube. The quality is good because it was being filmed for TV.
Makes me a little sad knowing .. have a sun about this age... and all he's getting is Post Malone. "Notice the pit" -- this is when we were 'dangerous punks' charged to wreak havoc by John Rotten himself ... lol Not.
A few thoughts. 1. Great video! Great performance! So much energy! (Yes, that’s one thought) 2. Bernard throwing the guitar is so punk. And the tech scrambling to get it ready just in time for the next riff. That’s awesome! 3. Final and possibly most important thought… New Order performing at the Haçienda. Most bands get paid for gigs like that. New Order PAID buckets of £ to play there. Hopefully they’re now recouping what they should’ve been paid for the gig.
@@nickd.6365 I rewound over and over and finally noticed that he brought out a replacement guitar, you see him hustle away the first guitar at 1:41. that one had white pickups, and was probably an actual Fender Strat. The replacement was the Tokai, I would imagine.
This song, especially the album version, is shoegaze before shoegaze. Follow the album version with "Sisters" by Blind Mr. Jones and hear the similarlity.
Perfect timing! I just watched a documentary on the Hacienda this week and here’s one of the best bands ever playing at one of the best venues ever 💜💜💜
I was actually there , it was an amazing set . If I correct , once BBC finished filming , New Order did a later set ( think after midnight ) for those that attended the club night .
My god, these first rows are the most compacted small crowd I have ever seen in a concert. But I can understand the excitation: 1985, New Order and Hacienda, what else?!
Stephen Morris is one of my favorite drummers of all time. You could argue that he made Joy Division and New Order who they are; he is able to be incredibly unique but also incredibly impersonal and he also discovered technical effects that musicians of today are indebted to. A musician of the first rank.
I love almost every part of this!! I always wish that the camera would focus on Gillian a bit more though.. :( Either way, really fantastic remaster. This version of Sunrise is amazing
This is from the Lowlife box set, that this video is on (among many others) coming out in jan 2023, its only been a 35 year wait for the full recorded video of this song.
Sempre que postam uma música ao vivo neste canal, eu já fantasio o New Order nos dias de hoje tocando essas músicas ao vivo. Como seria bom ouvir Sunrise, This Time of Night e Sooner Than You Think ao vivo // Whenever a song is posted live on this channel, I already fantasize about New Order these days playing these songs live. How good it would be to hear Sunrise, This Time of Night and Sooner Than You Think live!
Perfect example of a rock star rather than a rock guitarist. Joe Walsh is both. Hardly anyone is both. Barney is a reluctant star. He’s ace. Same with hooky. His bass is out of tune in the Jonathan femme perfect kiss vid but it doesn’t matter. Wish they’d bury the hatchet and tour again. 😢😢🎉❤
He does for us what the sex pistols did for him. It shows us that anyone can do it as long as there's chemistry and creativity. Sadly, neither the latter nor the former are a requisite today. Have you listened to the radio recently?! Then you know. The requirements today are 3 repetitive chords... aaaand a hell of a lot of auto-tune, even if unnecessary.
@@SIRRUBADUBDUB yeah, I remember watching a live studio session from the BBC around 82, Bernard is coked out to his gills, and complaining that Steve isn't playing fast enough.
Are you the Denis (on the front row) who stayed with me in Bootle for the From Manchester With Love gig? If so, I hope you're well. I think back all the time to those days of following New Order around the UK.
They're killing me with the Definitive Editions. I just saw they dropped the cost of Movement and PC&L- lot of good it does me now. Sure wish I had passed on the 2disc remasters which are a mess of errors, but no chance I'm passing on a Low-Life boxset.
It was custom made by a luthier called Chris Eccleshall, who has sadly passed away. The bass (one of a pair) has a Gibson EB-2 style body, 34" scale length - unusual in a semi-acoustic - and the electronics from a Yamaha BB1200S bass. Although Hooky used them live a lot, he used a Yamaha BB1200S for four string bass parts in the studio as the Eccleshall didn't sound as good (but it sure looks cooler).
Wow. A charged, fantastic performance of this underrated song. And Barney playing through his old Vox AC30 and exorcising spirits through that guitar. Best band ever to me.
To think four years later the hacienda crowd would be dancing to house music . Amazing
One of their most underrated songs to date, my favourite off low life
One of my favorite Hooky lines for sure
100% agree. Killer bass line, Hooky at his best
totally agree. Such raw energy they never replicated. I'm impressed how well it works live.
@@tylerskiss They replicated it on Brotherhood (side A).

The real New Order. 👍🏻

WHITE HOT!
ua-cam.com/video/ItyCM416tUA/v-deo.html my favorite Gillian moments on this one
Sadly a once great band is now just a New Order cover band. I was lucky enough to see them twice at their peak and will never forget.
Hooky went off as usual , legend , I love Barney’s unique melancholy vocals and guitar

One of Manchester (and Salfords) finest bands of all time rip Tony Wilson and Rob Gretten
Always love Barney's guitar playing.
Especially during this period!
I don’t know if his strat’s tone fits with this song.
Greatest New Order performance of a class song.
Stephen Morris is a fucking machine!!!
Hooky's "Hot 1" bass is screaming. LOVE this.
The higher Hooky goes up on the neck of his bass, the closer he gets to the ground. 😂
Watching these videos makes me feel like I just discovering some of the best music ever.... all over again.

Luckily it was a Fender and not a Gibson. :)))
@@GaylordBonnafous I believe it was a Tokai with EMG pickups
+1 No.2 - Props to the guitar tech, straight in there to sort it out, not sure if it was a string change maybe?

Could not love this song more. My favorite NEW ORDER for sure. This performance is so raw. Quintessential NO.
Mythical band in a mythical place!
Nothing else sounds like this. Incredible
Bernie is a great singer..I dont listen to the haters. He is so unique...off pitch style is just awesome.
Real music - this still sounds and looks so fresh and raw. Fantastic performance, no punches pulled.
My second favorite New Order song (True Faith #1) from my favorite New Order album Low Life. Remember them this way.
My favorite New Order song ..................... an inmense hug of light from Perú 💋💋💋💋💋♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹⚡☀️📣🌈😎👍...
One of their best live performances.
New Order were so fucking cool in 1985! Bernard has never played better guitar before or since. They must have had excellent drugs that night.
My number 1 all time favourite track
I'd sell my soul to witness such an insane performance live
I did see it live.
I've always wondered how Stephen keeps it up for a whole concert. I'd be finished after this number.
Speed 😉
