Scion was a brand that I really think helped build an incredible platform for entry level enthusiasts that needed a budget car. Most of their cars were different, fun, fresh, and cheap, and that was awesome. Over time, I think the brand would eventually get pushed out of the competiton because of it's parent company reprioritizing resources AND other companies finally starting to introduce available cars at a slightly better price. What do you think? Let me know below and of course, thanks for all the support and subscribing
I met my wife in a Scion car club. We were their target audience. Together we've had 3 scions and two Toyotas, including the previous gen venza which was also designed to be more for younger professional crowd starting families. The marketing was interesting for Scion, originally it was focused on alternative marketing. Music events, art presentations, car shows and such. You used to be able to go into dealerships and pickup a Scion CD sampler for free music (they had 30 different volumes from 2002 to 2010!) Fast and the furious really helped Scion along. It helped propel car culture forward and Scion was right there offering cars with cool colors and customization accessories that helped individualize cars but also bring people together. One of their slogans was united by individuality. On the other side, Toyota did so much experimentation across the business of selling the car but not all of them were great. One of the things that hurt Scion was the sales commissions were also fixed so it was harder for dealerships to find salesman to push them. Especially when they could just sell you a Toyota from the same lot and make more money.
I brought my 16yo son home from the hospital in a gen 1 xB. Later I had a second gen xB. Last year I bought my son a gen 1 xB for his first car. I love driving it. Such a cool car.
My aunt had a Supercharged Scion TC with the oil burning 2az. Took care it and did religious oil changes but it didn't take care of her. Rode in it once and the sound of that S/C was awesome! She scrapped it last year and got a 2011 Camry Se V6. Not a bad choice. Asked her recently and she's on the lookout for a 2gr supercharger.
I would also like to add that the 2015 tc and other scion names came with a pioneer headunit with a touchscreen and a optional nav in all of its 15-16 lineup of cars. The 2016 models came with push-button start as well. My scion tc never gave me any major issues and it was one of the best choices I've ever purchased as a young adult(i was 30 at the time). But now, at the age of 36, I want supra, lol.
I drive the 14 tC in my profile picture and couldn't love it more. You've probably seen me around as I go to a lot of our local car shows. Car and the brand has always been cool to me and I was happy when I finally got my hands on one
always love seeing a new video on the Scion brand; I don't know what it is about them, but I have a soft spot for well-kept Scions-maybe it's because my grandparents have always owned at least one of them haha, and now I own a 2013 tC (RS8.0)
@@joogullae3456 grandparents are in their 70s, maybe early 80s, I'm in my early 20s; they're pretty cheap when it comes to cars, and knowing how cheap Scions were when new and that they're Toyotas (reliable) it's no surprise that they've owned at least two of them, and still own one along with a Prius

1st car I got brand new was a 2012 Scion iQ. It made sense in a place like San Francisco, and they sprouted like mushrooms all over town. Surprisingly fun car to drive and comfortable on the freeway, which was a big surprise. Never had any problems with it, still got it and my wife loves it.
Yep. Just went from an 07 tc to a Camry. I love my tc but it burns too much oil and its not fair that Toyota won't fix their own mistake with the piston rings. I needed something more reliable that I didn't have to fill with oil every 500 miles.
Scion will always have a special place in my heart. when i was only 3 years old my parents bought a white xB and it was the first new car they bought at a dealership. i have so many memories in that car, and really, it made me the car guy i am today. i remember my dad involving me when he would wash it, do any kind of mods, or any simple maintenance to teach me at a young age. my first day in kindergarten my parents took a picture of me standing next to the xB in my elementary schools parking lot. and that was just that scion. my dad also had a purple first gen xB he got for my mom, and last year i got my own, and thats how i learned how to drive stick. and as someone whos forever grateful for the living situation me and my family are in that gave me the opportunity to own my clean ass ls400, id honestly sell it to have that white xB back.
I had a 2014 Scion tC as my first car and I loved it, especially as a first car. So many good memories were made in that car. I know it was slow but I totally "straight piped it" by just removing the muffler lol
Honestly, the later xB 's that had the rounded edges were pretty dope. I had a 2013 and i loved that car. I kinda wish I never sold it. It handled great and had good gas mileage. Esthetically, i liked the look. I liked the feel of the car. Personally, if they brought them back i would be chomping at the bit for one.
I ended up getting stuck between a FRS and a TC, I was their target demographic and really just prefered them over others at the time, now that I've got a bit more maybe I'll sling for a mk5 supra but they got me early
Glad to hear that you like my little toaster 🤣🤣🤣 I think that Scion did what it was supposed to do. It gave Toyota the opportunity to not only experiment without affecting the Toyota customer base and appeal to younger consumers. But also bring other international models to the US. The xA and xB already existed in RHD format for years prior to Scion. I wish they would have brought the Alphard to the US with a 6 cyl engine. BTW, I think you should build an xB. I’ll say one thing. It’s tough to do everything I want to do in the limited space it has!
As the owner of a 2005 Scion xA Release Series 1.0 I am really just glad Scion did exist. I don't care about new cars and honestly think no one should make cars anymore (We need sustainable transportation, cars are best being for fun). I am a college student funny enough, I just got my xA this summer and sold my previous car, a 2001 Nissan Maxima. Literally halved my gas costs and I have a long commute, this is like the perfect car for college! My xA is stock except for an intake and exhaust from the previous owner which make it sound pretty cool, and despite being slow it handles great. Another funny thing is that I have two friends with Scions, my one friend has a loud gen 1 tC with a big wing, and another friend got a gen 1 xB that I told her she should look at. Together we own the entire original Scion lineup! These cars are honestly at their best now, very reliable and cheap now that they are older, I would recommend them to anyone in need of cheap transportation in a car-centric area. I plan on keeping my xA forever, except as soon as possible I am moving to a walkable/bikeable area with good transit and turning it into an electric track machine. ;)
I’ve owned two Gen 1 xB’s, a Gen 2 xB and a first gen tC. Loved them all. All the xB’s were completely custom. They were the best vehicles I’ve ever owned. I’m trying to buy another Gen 1 xB or maybe a second gen tC.
Never have I bought a used car with just under 200,000 km and been able to drive it, maintenance free, for the next year and a half, AND add 40-50,000km in mileage?!?! I learned to drive on a 1986 Toyota Corolla (last model before fuel injection). It had no guts, all of 96 ponies I think, so you had to use all of the gears, and downshift a lot for hills, but it never quit, complained or really gave my dad any trouble. I’ve got a Scion XD now and I love it. It reminds me a lot of that old Corolla except not as much downshifting, and it’s a luxury car in comparison with all its options. The corolla had no cruise, pwr windows and locks, no steering wheel controls at all and definitely no traction control or stability control ( actually think the last two features are totally overkill for such a basic small car, being front wheel drive and Stick). What the Corolla did have was the heart of a work horse, and reliability to boot. My dad got a lot of miles out of that little car and I’m pretty sure this XD won’t disappoint.
I drive a 2012 TC, it's my second car and while it's not super luxurious I do love it. It's practical with the liftback/hatchback design and I think it looks awesome. Its also fun to drive with the 6mt but the shifter isn't as precise as my old 5 speed civic
In Japan the the Toyota bb came out in 2000-05. It was a right hand drive and in the US scion made the first gen Xb from 2004-06. They also had a AWD version but the US never got. I believe we have to wait till 2025 to import a Toyota bb from Japan.
I recently just bought my first car and its a used 2016 scion tc. I remember growing up in the early 2000’s when I started seeing the commercials for it and I thought it was neat. The cars looked sleek and seemed fun to drive. By the time I got into high school scion was still the most wanted car at my school mainly the FR-S, due to part in with all the fast and furious movies were still rolling out. I was more into the tc myself it’s honestly in my book still one of the most reliable cars and for what it’s worth as being my first car I would buy it all over again. If some how Toyota does bring it back I personally don’t think it would be the wisest business move in my personal opinion.
2009 Scion xB is the best car I have ever owned. currently at 247k, replaced the alternator and belt at 175k and other than that tires, brake pads and batteries.
My Scion xA has been a very solid and dependable car for the 85k miles I've driven it ever since I got my license. Probably gonna keep driving it until I can't anymore. It's a Toyota, and Toyotas tend to love you even if you don't love it back. Also really liked the first-gen tC too, definitely on my list of potential daily drivers to get if something were to happen to my xA.
I drive a 2013 tC and I really wished they brought it to the main Toyota brand! It's a all Toyota built entry level "sporty" reliable coupe with humble aspirations and imo didn't deserve to get swept under the rug by the ToyoBaru twins. I also can only imagine the tweaks they could of brought to the tC if Toyota kept it, imagine a cool enthusiast All-Trac trim with a turbo and a fancy modern AWD system.

Wish they would have kept the XB and gave it a awd system and like maybe 400 hp turbo it would have made me love it even more but very reliable car if you take care of it
If toyota released a 1st gen style xb ev I would buy 4 of them. I would even buy a gas version. I love gen1 xB. Still driving my 2nd xB, 1st has 300k. Fun to drive, easy to work on or customize
I still my cousin having a white TC when she used to work at Carmax as a 8 yr old I thought it was cool also I hope u do more downfall videos of other car brands
@@SpiceofLifevariety in comparison to the Celica, the tC is at best a spiritual successor, if only because the redline is so much lower than final-gen Celicas (redline on tCs is ~6500, whereas Celicas typically could go well into the 7000s, if not low 8s I think in the right config)
I feel like an outlier because the Scion brand never really clicked with me. The xB was always ugly to me, although I'll cede that it was practical. Now that Toyotas don't look as dumb as they did when Scion launched, I think whatever target market Scion had belongs to Toyota proper and thus no need for Scion to exist anymore.
I wouldn't be surprised if in the "all electric" world we're heading towards, Toyota brough the Scion XB back as an all electric, low priced, budget car
Scion would still around IF they gave the 2008-2015 scion xb the 2.5 180hp And IF they bumped the Tc to 200hp. Btw if you don't think you're gonna get old, just keep on living.
I know it's the same as the brz and 86, but god dang I just always loved the frs. I would have liked to see more affordable coupes and performance cars marketed under the scion brand. Like maybe the A90, and they could have called it something else to not ruin the supra name (I know they had to for publicity and I do like the car but COME ON) But frankly, now that Toyota is doing cool stuff, I don't really care.

When Toyota said they were scrapping scion from that point I was wishing they would keep the tc in some way. Had a 09 tc. Loved it. Was a great car
It was basically a 2 door camry, but they axed the manuals on camrys after the tc. They need to bring back manual camry. With awd would be sick.

My wife bought a scion xA back when she was in college. I daily it now because it gets good gas mileage….. that’s about all that’s good with it lol😂
I was too old for the target market when Scion came out. Even so, I did think the Gen1 XB and the TC were attractive.
Everybody I know who drive an XB, drives like they are in a F1! I need to drive one to understand the hype!
YES!!! Taco John's is superior
Toyota needs to bring back the XB, TC just with Toyota badges
Taco John's all day bro. We Midwestern folk know. Used to live in Wisconsin back in da day but SD now and my town only has tj
I always thought the tC was like Toyota celica after they discontinued em
@@SpiceofLifevariety in comparison to the Celica, the tC is at best a spiritual successor, if only because the redline is so much lower than final-gen Celicas (redline on tCs is ~6500, whereas Celicas typically could go well into the 7000s, if not low 8s I think in the right config)
I still have a soft spot for the xb 1st gen,
Nissan cube is the exception to that rule. Lol
I wanted Scion to build and save the mini truck like they did with the FRS and BRZ and sport compacts. Guess I gotta do it myself 😹😹😹😹
I think they are still dope
This old as man said they put rap music in the commercials 😆 I'll take, things my dad would say for $300, Alex
Scion iM driver here ✌🏾
I have a 08 xb and I love it. I'm actually going to make it faster
I still want a bb or as we know it xb
Scion would still around IF they gave the 2008-2015 scion xb the 2.5 180hp And IF they bumped the Tc to 200hp. Btw if you don't think you're gonna get old, just keep on living.
don't let dakota hear this baco tell slander
I know it's the same as the brz and 86, but god dang I just always loved the frs. I would have liked to see more affordable coupes and performance cars marketed under the scion brand. Like maybe the A90, and they could have called it something else to not ruin the supra name (I know they had to for publicity and I do like the car but COME ON) But frankly, now that Toyota is doing cool stuff, I don't really care.
Taco Bell is the king of late night unnecessary food stops and you know it! (Mostly because their probably the only stores open at the time) BUT YEAH.
Alex was a RN?
Some ugly cars are cool but I would never say that about the pt cruiser, the sporty hearse
If Taco John's was better it be on the West Coast
I love my tc 🥰
Scion was toyotas pontiac
XB GEN 1 WOOT WOOT. XB GEN 2 is not a real XB
Scion will be back one day lol
Xbs are best even if they burn oil
