as someone who really enjoys darkwood, and someone who has never seen or heard of this guy before. I'm genuinely into the way he evaluates things, and this playthrough might just be the thing i need to get me up and going again. Looking forward to it, also I popped a sub!
3 month sub here. He has an extremelly accurate perpection of how things feel, or how surroundings can affect player based decisions. Its Quite the channel to just sit down and learn something.
Some helpful tips If you click the mouse wheel you'll preform a quick attack. The day/Night cycle doesn't start untill you leave your safehouse. You can climb through windows Hope some of this helped :)
Assuming this has been mentioned already, but here are some non spoilery tips; -Timefreeze occurs every morning, giving you time to talk to NPCs who migh appear in your house etc without losing out on valuable daylight. -You have a workbench in the top right of your house. You can craft more items by using it and also store your stuff there. Its upgraded with the toolbox item. -You already have some of the items you need to craft rudimentary weapons at the workbench, like a board with nails sticking out etc. Darkwood is an awesome game and perfect for this channel. Its creepy and uncomfortable without ever using cheap scares. Its going to be very interesting watching your playthrough. Good luck!
Darkwood introduced me to creepy comfy, with the security of my base and yet the ominous threat of something I have no knowledge about knocking on my door at night.
I really enjoy the time he spends immersing himself in the experience, as a spectator I feel it helps us to get immersed in it as well and raises the tension right alongside.
Ya keep apologizing for taking it slow, but believe me, the biggest injustice you could do to your playthrough is to try and rush through it and not check out stuff with details/lore and take in the atmosphere. Not to mention, a survival game is gonna require you to keep an eye out for things in your environment to use. Love this game, am very happy to see you play it! Edit: Sorry, Librarian, but i think those "masses" were small firs. Also, when you're in the morning "time freeze" don't worry about wasting time. Time's frozen. It's the best time to get your crafting and barricading done. Search everything, there's an item of interest in your hideout that you didn't pick up, for example. Err, what else...oh, you misunderstood how the Wolfman's shop works. Reputation IS the currency. Don't forget to read all his gossip!
Yes, _please_ don't rush out of or in to things just because you think 'some people are frustrated'. If someone playing this game wants to rush through everything on their own time, that's on them, but don't make their opinions force you to ruin your own experience.
i smell an underrated youtuber but seriously your playthrough and commentary really adds to the gameplay and i find this really immersive. i enjoyed watching this video a lot. thank you for your amazing walkthrough
Just started watching, my god, I'm reliving my first time playing it through you. You are doing both yourself and the game justice by taking it slowly and thoughtfully, getting "lost" in the forest, so to speak. Your calm and gentle voice, your genuine yet reserved reactions bring out the best from this already masterfully immersive game. I know I'll be enjoying this series tremendously. It makes me want to replay it again, and I wish I could re-live the horror and wonder of discovering this world all over again.
Oh, I like your style of gameplay. Never found anyone who immerses themselves with games, preferring to walk into the forest with awareness. Subscribed.
Hey Libarian, just wanted to say I've been binge watching your videos since I've found your channel and it's great to see you play one of my favorite games. And don't worry about taking it slow, the game doesn't hold your hand in explaining as to what's actually happening so it's important that you take your time and explore.
Oh hell yes, I never even considered you playing this, which seems to be common in the comments here haha. But love this game, though I do have my issues with it. Looking forward to watching this series.
OH MY GOD! I've been thinking about recommending this to you ever since I saw your No One Lives under the Lighthouse videos but thought due to the change in perspective that this isn't suited for your channel. One of my all time favorites! Now your doing it anyway. I'm in bliss.
I appreciate how physical things are here. Like your cone of vision and a door blocking vision as it stays where you last pushed it to. Also, I played a game called Notrium and the top down view matches this, but they flesh out of the scenes more
One of the all time best horror games I've ever played hands down. The world building, atmosphere, oppressive gameplay.. very well done. I will say I kind of soft locked myself into the last area of the game because I left all my stuff behind. So I never finished the whole game but I have beat most of it. When you go to the last area make sure you're ready. You can't go back. I think the game warns you but I was stubborn and didn't feel like going back.
Good choice of a game :) Also, maybe on a more of a cosmic-horror side, you could try Outer WIlds at some point, although it's not that visceral as the other games you've played
I want to play this, but I actually think it would freak me out. I tried Outlast, years ago. There was a point I just stood up, turned off the computer, and went to bed. It shook me, lol.
the ending of the opening in the cabin distinctly reminded me of the scene in Evil Dead 2 where the possessed trees attempt to break in as Annie reads the passage to open the portal
Darkwood is one of my favorite games of the past decade! Whether or not you play it all on video, I hope you can experience it fully some day, as there's dozens of hours worth of content.
One of my favorites games of all times. I would recommend you to play it on the hard difficulty, everything feels much more tense and scarier when you have limited lives.
Didn't even expect you to play this, idk why. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. P.S. be sure to take as much time as you need, the game is intended to be played that way... It'll hurry you up when it needs.
you are now my 8 .or 9 .re watched gameplay from this game because i LOVE .this. game!!!! just the options to do are so amazing that i love to see what you will do
I don't think the room behind the wardrobe was 'based on luck', more on just seeing that there's light, and an entire room, behind it and investigating. On the plus side, it helps teach you to look at these things, and not just focus on what your character sees in front of them.
I have some wierd relationship with Darkwood. I love the gameplay, love the atmosphere, the horror.. BUT because I am a man who don't really like to be scared, and this game is actually scary for me, and I try to be pretty optimal with the resources, so I get upset and want to replay the moment when I stupidly lost something useful - I can't really play it:( But man this game is so cool
Ooooooh boy, *this game*. I love this game, however, it is tough in some regards The indiegogo content from what I remember only extends to an event that can occur when leveling up. The combat in the game, you’re either gonna love it or hate it. The weapons available at the start (2x4 plank, etc.) are pretty meh, and enemies are mean. Weapons have different ranges and swing speeds, and have alternate attacks. Theres the aim and attack, and a quick attack that uses more stamina, but you can use it without needing to enter the aim stance. It might be middle mouse, check your controls. Watch your step, red mushrooms are good despite the ‘poisonous’, pick them and cook them at the oven to level up (just sure to turn them in to oven, so you accumulate progress and the shrooms don’t rot and go to waste) but *watch your step*, they will burst and poison you if you step right on them. Red in crafting means you lack materials to make something ; the ‘red torch’ is an alternate way to make a torch, using a little bit of gas from a gas can instead of an alcohol bottle. Pay attention to what is needed to craft things. Wouldn’t want to run out of wood making barricades and forget to save some to make a Shovel. Night time is scary, but not everything is out to get you. If you hear a knock on your door at night, there might be a gift on the porch/patio. Be mindful of nearby nasties. Night time has unique events that make things worse for the night, or offer a chance to get value items for trading. Pay attention to any lights outside your walls at night, but don’t go too far away from home, and keep a light source on you preferably. I can’t *wait* to see you play more

well as someone who really enjoys this guy, and has never heard of darkwood, i enjoy this too lol
In that case I would also recommend CJUGames if you haven’t already heard of him :)
This is EXACTLY what I thought, nice to see there are other people around that have been looking for the same feeling Ive been looking for
Some helpful tips

A game I didn't expect to see here... but it seems obvious now that it's perfect.
tyler the creator?????????

Left. Top left 😬
"It's almost like the person in the chair is the protagonist"
Woof, good call.
Also 57:00 "a little lost lamb among wolves". The Wolfman is the first NPC he meets

Darkwood is one of the few games where a chest itself can be a treasure.
I love how everyone who plays this game imediatelly use the wardrobe to block holes
Some mushrooms are poisonous, the red ones used for essence aren't.
And those writhing masses are just trees from the top down.
damn what a start! I really like your commentary
Literally said out loud
“He’s going to have a field day with Dark Wood”
When I had saw this lol
"Sleep through the night"
You poor, sweet summer child.
If only it was safe enough to sleep.... Especially in the swamp! Those goddamned spiders still freak me out on my 3rd playthrough.

*Sees one of my favorite lets-player play one of my favorite games.*
*Sees it was posted 51 minutes ago.*
Me: Fuck yeah
Not gonna lie, this is the best playthrough of this game I've seen so far. You play it just how I do! Slow, cautious, very observant. Love it.
I absolutely love your work, Librarian. I've been saving this entire Darkwood LP for the spoopy month, and now it has arrived. It's time to dig in.
Oh, I like your style of gameplay. Never found anyone who immerses themselves with games, preferring to walk into the forest with awareness. Subscribed.
Now this is gonna be a dope series

oh boy this is gonna be straight nightmare fuel for you librarian.
The more I see you progress through this game, the more I thank god for napalm
I absolutely love this game, I'm so glad you picked it up.
One thing i liked to do in this game was block windows and doors by dragging wardrobes to cover the entrances. Recommend it
this man must have been through some shit in order for him to not give a shit about killing the dog
I am squeeling with delight. Prepare to be utterly terrified Librarian.
Played it through recently, became one of my all time favourites. Just amazing.
i love this game, i spent a year playing and exploring, and seeing my favorite youtuber playing makes me happy
Da man always uploads when I go to sleep. Shit's Chefs kiss 🤌

One of my favourite games, yay! :D
Just a few tips! You can vault over windows, and the workbench is your best friend
Alright I'm here from the Scare Compilation Video. So excited for the series.
I appreciate how physical things are here. Like your cone of vision and a door blocking vision as it stays where you last pushed it to. Also, I played a game called Notrium and the top down view matches this, but they flesh out of the scenes more

Uh oh, he's discovered a digital manifestation of hell.
Man ever since I watched this channel I have been want too see you play darkwood, can't wait to see more
I've been listening to the soundtrack for a long time, I'm glad I get to see a thorough playthrough of the game to go with it.
Good choice of a game :)
Also, maybe on a more of a cosmic-horror side, you could try Outer WIlds at some point, although it's not that visceral as the other games you've played

oh this is gonna be a fun one for you
oh man you're gonna have a blast with this game
Im only 3 minutes in and I gotta be real that Dr. Fauci joke was spot on.
I was not at all expecting to see this game roll up on this channel. An all-time favorite, good luck lol.
I do agree with some comments above, it's fine if you take it slow, it makes this walkthrough even better.
Darkwood is one of my favorite games of the past decade! Whether or not you play it all on video, I hope you can experience it fully some day, as there's dozens of hours worth of content.
i love this game so much, so glad you played it
I didn't know he played this until he mentioned it in his Subnautica video, I'm so happy right now lol.
I loved the beginning it was a lot of fun.
57:38 the answer is to take all precautions and none of them will work
One of my favorites games of all times. I would recommend you to play it on the hard difficulty, everything feels much more tense and scarier when you have limited lives.
Played this game for 40+ hours. It's just so good.
“Is this being narrated by Dr. Fauci?”😭
I wanna recommend this game to my freind
I've been waiting for this series
Didn't even expect you to play this, idk why.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
P.S. be sure to take as much time as you need, the game is intended to be played that way... It'll hurry you up when it needs.
Btw the currently selected objects means what's on the ground, since due to the perspective they can overlap. Press 'E' to cycle between containers.
Oh my god!Oh my God!Its Happening its happening
Also,Use the crafting Table,it'll help
Beginning of dog part: 9:52
End of dog part: 12:39
Never understood games that made you kill animals to prove just how brutal/scary it'll be :/
You don’t have to kill the dog. You can leave it, and it’ll have mutated when you get to the doctor’s house later in chapter one. It’s a choice.
you are now my 8 .or 9 .re watched gameplay from this game because i LOVE .this. game!!!! just the options to do are so amazing that i love to see what you will do
I love this game. You're in for a ride.
Fuck yes

Im happy youtube recommended this vid to me
Plz make another ep
Don't wait 11 seconds to say hello.
At most 1-2 seconds.
Nice
First "Stalker" reference I hear from any youtuber since about like, EVER
I have some wierd relationship with Darkwood. I love the gameplay, love the atmosphere, the horror.. Looks like your average day in the finnish forrest
16:22 bro can craft a redstone torch 💀
Thank you.
You said this game is something like Stalker or Annihilation, but it's more like this game is shifted to the side. Both and none at the same time.
👌
AYOOOOO YOUR PLAYING IT
Maybe now that you're playing too I will be able to build the courage to finish this game lol
this guy is talking about the game like he's sponsored by it.
Awe
