Man I'm bummed, I missed this trip. That first day looked absolutely frigid!!! Ofcourse the bloopers are the best part 😅. I'm glad Kyle could get out for some type 2 fun!
I’m sorry you couldn’t make it! We missed the rest of the tribe, for sure. Kyle was a beast for braving that cold! He’s a pretty good blooper provider, too😅. Thanks for watching!
Nice hike, I live about 30 minutes from Grayson Highlands. I knew every where you was at, I do alot of hiking there, I have never hiked it in the winter but that looked like a awesome hike. Really enjoyed!
I am so jealous! I would love to live that close to Grayson Highlands. I want to revisit so badly, maybe in the fall or spring where there is more visibility, I missed alot of views on that first day up to Mount Rogers and back down. Thanks for watching!
I’ve been to Grayson Highlands a few times but this was the most beautiful that I’ve seen it. I know it had to be tough conditions up there but so worth it. The ending 😂😂😂😂😂 Loved the video brother 👍🏻👍🏻
LOVED THIS! I've been taking a winter hiking vacation in the Mount Rogers area for the last decade. I didn't get to go this winter. So great to see my "happy place" in the cold, snowy conditions I'm used to. Until winter comes, this wonderful footage will inspire and tide me over. :)
I am so glad you were able to find my video to get to see the winter views from this year to hold you over until next time! It's a wonderful place, I cannot wait to go back! Thanks for watching!
You know your mother is biased when it comes to your videos but this one is one of my favorites😊. The snow on the spruce looked like someone had dusted them with confectionery sugar😉and the ponies were the high point to me❤. The vista with the drone was beautiful and last but not least the stars twinkling ⭐️⭐️on your last night there . How blessed you are to be able to see all of God’s wonder 🙏❤️. So proud of you! Love you !
Thanks so much, Mom! I was pleased with how this one turned out, overall, especially since I had some footage issues I had to edit around that took forever. The conditions were very similar to my Pine Mtn excursion a couple of years ago- I feel so lucky to experience it again! Love you!
My son and I have gone to Grayson Highlands the last two years. We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Abingdon and walked to the same mexican restaurant you went to. At night they have a lady that does guacamole at your table. Last summer my son wanted to climb some rocks at the highlands when out of the blue two F15s come flying at 50 feet above us. Of course without any warning there were no pictures of the event. We live outside of Louisville.
Hey thanks so much for taking the time to watch and leave such a kind comment! I would love to go back and visit more fo the area, especially when the visibility is better without all the snowy fog. That Mexican restaurant was really good! I loved that they had an entire salsa bar for you to try. Now I need to go back to experience the guacamole lady ha! And hearing those planes overhead in the woods would be terrifying, especially that close to the surface.
It was a haven for us to eat lunch in to get away from that brutal wind! I can believe it when you say it gets hurricane level, that place is no joke. Thanks for watching!
How'd y'all like my ''backyard''? I grew up just a few miles from there and have been hiking the area for over 40 years. Yep it can get down right brutal in the winter time up there. There's snow up there right now too. Awesome video my friend!
I didn’t realize those were your old stomping grounds! Quite a place to grow up. It was a very humbling place to experience in the winter. Thanks for watching, Jim!
What kind of boots did you use ? Also how bad were the roads in terms of snow ? I’m thinking about doing this Dec 26-28th , but I’m kinda rethinking it because it seems like there may be more snow than I’m expecting . It seems shocking to me there’s a lot of snow up there because I did the VA triple crown in Dec last year and there was no problem with snow or anything …
I used Salewa Mtn Trainer Gortex boots for this trip, did well other than freezing overnight, would recommend putting your snow covered boots in a waterproof bag and then somehow getting them inside your sleeping bag or putting your footwear on the next day will be almost impossible. I’ve learned the hard way. The roads weren’t bad going up to the trailhead, but there wasn’t a ton of snow at that point. I would probably call the state park ahead of time to see what they think before deciding. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Many of the ponies are somewhat "friendly." People feed them (disregarding the signs not to). Only the ponies in the remotest part of the mountain are skittish around humans. I have video of my boxer interacting with some, especially the curious youngsters. AWESOME place to hike!

Thanks for watching, brother! It was a trip of a lifetime, for sure. Can’t wait to go back there sometime!
@@BluegrassBackcountrythose ending bloopers 😂😂😂
@@BackpackingWithJason couldn’t leave those out! Kyle was in peak performance😂
I love the area. I make a pilgrimage every summer and definitely every winter.
It's definitely a "pilgrimage" type of place to visit, even multiple times a year! Thanks so much for watching!
Grayson Highlands park in beautiful place I live close to it. The wild ponies are beautiful also
I would love to live close by, I would be visiting all the time! Those ponies are pretty magical, even in the snow!
Wonderful video. It's been a while since I've got to hike the GH. What a great place. A winter hike had to be special.
It was a hike of a lifetime! Thanks for watching!
I've been up there many times, but not in such lovely snow. I'll hope to try that this year
It was totally surreal!! Hope you can experience it! Thanks for watching :)

Thomas Knob Shelter is an awesome place to be in Winter. The wind there can reach Hurricane force sometimes.

Great video of one of my favorites places to backpack.
Thanks for watching! It was a trip of a lifetime in those conditions!
Thanks for sharing your trip! I was there with a group backpacking Mount Rogers at the end of September 2017.
Thanks for watching! It’s a magical place, I could return there year after year and never grow tired of those views.
Wow beautiful scenes but so frigid looking! My mom’s 2nd fav park.
Thanks so much for watching! It was a cold but beautiful trip. I can see why it’s one of her favorites, it’s so beautiful!
Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch! Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Great job! Betcha didn't have to fight with other backpackers for space on the trail!
Thanks , Pop Pop! Yes we were practically all alone on this trip! Saw a couple of day hikers but that was it. Always appreciate you tuning in!
Outstanding Winter VA video!!
Thanks so much for watching!!
So good! Looks like an amazing trip.
Thanks for watching! It was an unforgettable experience.

@ yeah makes sense , thanks ! Forecast looks cold over the weekend but then warms up so maybe I’ll get lucky . Merry Christmas
Needs bluegrass music
I’ll keep that in mind for the next adventure! Thanks for watching
those horses are ridiculous! they seem absolutely domesticated. i'd be afraid of them though
They all seemed to have some attitude haha! I didn’t get it on camera, but one of them tried to bite Kyle as he passed by! Thanks for watching!
