    I came here because I've had my monstera for a little over 2 months that I transferred to leca and hadn't seen any new growth. It had one unfurled leaf when I got it, which is now fully open, but nothing since. This makes me feel a lot better that I haven't seen anything yet! I can see that the roots are completely healthy and growing, so I guess I just have to be patient.

    Erica, thank you sooooo much for the detailed information about the Monstera. Your Monsteras are absolutely beautiful and healthy looking. I came upon a large Monstera with 14 stems/leaves at Trader Joes. I took it home and set it apart from my other plants just in case it had bugs. In the meantime, I binged on UA-cam videos so I could learn what the plant likes and doesn't. My ultimate goal is the grow it in water. I put the plant in bright light, and let it dry out completely, about 2 weeks, before watering because like you, I didn't know what I was doing. So far iall is well. The mother plant has put out a new leaf the other day and the other leaves are large and green.
    I will continue to follow your channel to get more information and see your other plant collection. Thank you so much again, this video has been very helpful. All the plant best!!!!

    You are right about Monstera temperature! Obviously, it doesn't like cold, however, mine does well in the same spot near a western window summer and winter in Ohio. My house is heated however sometimes during the winter it can be a touch cooler next to the window however it has done fine for 2 years so far!
    I am growing mine in a soil and orchid mixture. I would like to try your medium on the next propagation!

    "If your monstera isn't happy it won't grow" so damn true. Non of my monsteras grew in soil. I then figured they're happier in leca and pon (in my case). Since then they grow like crazy!! I have a huge plant collection, mostly in soil and they're doing fine. BUT i simply can not manage to keep monstera alive in soil. I can't be the only one?? It's said they're such easy plants but i really dont think so.

      I'm rooting mine in water then moving them into leca, do you have drainage holes in your pot or is it ok for the roots to sit in water with the leca?

    • @ocbojm
      @ocbojm Рік тому

      your soil should be a chunky aroid mix, like max 20% only soil, the rest can be orchid bark, pumice, charcoal, leca balls, vermiculite..

      Hi! I use tap water. It’s a little chlorinated though, so I let it sit for 24 hours before pouring it into my plants. I’m thinking now to collect rain water which is the best for plants but I get a little lazy 😅 but if you’re up to the challenge, rain water makes the plants grow the fastest 😊

    a week ago I got a monstera. I was wondering if you have tried using rice water as a revitalizer ..? I have doubts if this would hurt the monstera because I don't know much about this plant.

    • @EricabyDesign
      @EricabyDesign  4 роки тому +3

      Rice water is good if you have your plant in soil. If you’re using LECA or soil less medium don’t do it because the rice water will develop mold after a few days and start to stink and spread over the plant. Yep... it’s obvious I tried it and learned my lesson 😅
