    I have 1.4 16V AXP replacement engine, had it all apart, oil pickup all clean, 16 new INA lifters, car will still make the noise but not as much, noise will go down after driving maybe 20 minutes, half lifters were soft half hard previously, id say if your engine is running strong and noise is not terrible just leave it. My mom only drives that car to work for like 10 minutes and thats it.

      krzysiekv12 Noise is not terrible, but just interested in what causing the noise. I'm flushed the engine, as result the engine now is more silent. I was hearing the engine from bottom and there's no noises.

    Hello.Very nice job! I have the same problem and of course a question. Can you tell me how to install valve lifters. When you put them back do they have to be soft or hard, full of oil or bled out. And when you firs start the motor i read that you must not run the engine at idle but you have to rev it up to al least 2000 rpm for few minutes.
    Thanks and very nice video.

      +Ziga Vozlic Hello. Thanks alot for kind words! I read different information about lifters. For BMW engines lifters must be hard(filled with oil), for VW petrol engines (~2000 year of production) lifters may be soft (without oil). Too sad because lots of video materials was lost. But I put engine oil into pan and fill lifters with oil. Then I install them into engine. I ran engine aprox. 2000rpm around 2-3 minutes. Then I take a ride. Engine worked so smooth, but after month of usage engine start works coarse again. Maybe it will help you.
      Cheers!

    Hello, I have VW Polo Variant 1.4 16V and I do not have the breather tube comming from the top of motor to the air filter, as you mentioned at 1:25. When the temperature rises, oil is spitting from the hole (at 2:58). Friend of mine, whom I bought my car from, added hose to that hole which is hanging over motor heading to the ground.

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  5 років тому

      Hello, I don't understand which hole do you mean. BTW when engine is in good condition, no oil will spitting from any hole. When your engine run at work temperature have you steam from this tube which heading to the ground ?

    • @SlovakiaGuy
      @SlovakiaGuy 5 років тому

      @@AXRV88 I mean the hole on the top cylinder head cover. In 1:29 you are disconnecting the breather tube from the air filter cover. The second end of the tube is connected on the hole on cylinder head cover. Problem is that my type of motor, AUA, didn't have such a tube. So the hole is just like that. When motor is running at work temperature, oil start's spitting from it plus I fell air of course. Little bit of steam as well. This is the reason why friend of mine, whom I bought my car from, added hose to that hole which is hanging over motor heading to the ground as a provisional solution. I had one colleague from previous job, he had Golf 1.6 16V, almost the same motor, and he also did not have the breather tube. And no problems he had.

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  5 років тому

      SlovakiaGuy, I see. I think you have this steam and oil spitting from breather tube because piston rings are worned and let gases from burning chamber into engine carter and of course this gases goes from engine carter to engine head and from head to this tube. If engine oil has smell of fuel it is because of worn piston rings. Did you measured compression?

    • @SlovakiaGuy
      @SlovakiaGuy 5 років тому

      @@AXRV88 I have not measured the compression yet, don't know how to measure it. Gonna check some videos.

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  5 років тому +1

      SlovakiaGuy, you need to use compression gauge instead of spark plug in each cylinder. All measured data may be qual. After this procedure you need to add little bit of oil inside cylinder around 5-10ml and take measures again. If pressure with oil is higher than without oil, your piston rings are worn and let gases inside carter.

    hello good on the double cover of the camshaft what is the position of the camshaft. How did you guide me for the installation where does each one go?

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  3 роки тому

      Hello. I can't guide you for the installation. Disassembly and assembly is making when camshafts are locked by special tool. You can make it by your own. You need pair of bolts and nuts and metal plate.

    hi!have the same problem-rattling sound from top of the engine,i cant decide to buy all 16 new or just a clieaning will do the job.just wondering how did you clean them?thanks for great video

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  10 років тому

      Hi! Thanks for your interest. I clean it with straightened paper clip. Put lifter in solvent, which must cover whole lifter. There is ball inside which you need to push. You can see the ball through upper hole. Push into upper hole with straightened paper clip and stoke lifter a bit. Allow it to soak in. Then stroke lifter in solvent again. If solvent is dirty, replace it and repeat procedure till dirt stops come out. Then you need to oiled it to prevent rust. Don't forget to drain solvent from lifter before oiling. That's it. But I think to buy new is easier. I hope it would helpful! P.S. I think it will be better if you also replace engine oil after this.

      Elvijs Sotnieks I used my old ones. I'm not sure they alright or not, but look like new. But I think if you can buy new, do it. I read some information about lifters and rockers... every used rocker can work properly only with its lifter. As a result, change lifters is not enough to valves work properly. I think it's better to change lifters and rockers. I made this procedure for experiment, without changing anything. I'm not a professional mechanic, but understand something. I want to say, some rattling remain and i think it is rockers rattle or lifters clogged again with dirt which remain in engine head. But engine works more silent than before.

    I have a polo with CGGB engine (2009/2014) 1.4 16V, the designe of the engine looks just the same as what it shown in this video, i got rattle noise especially in morning (cold start) my knowledge leads me to valve lifters but im just confused, do i have to buy all the 16 one with ther rockers or just cleaning them !? Plz i need an answer from your experience
    Ps: after deleting the catalytic converter the rattling sound come much louder especially when im accelerating near walls or something like that( ex: night drive)
    I have 100k KM with this car, thank you in advance :)

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  5 років тому

      Hello, Aveiro! My experience show me one thing and it's " you need change both lifters and rockers". These parts work together and some wear on them is pair wise. After I had clean lifters rattling noise disapear only for a couple of weeks. I know nothing about noises after catalytic converter removal. Some people say this engine is enginered to work with this kind of noises. Of course you can try to clean lifters, maybe it shoul be enough. If not, buy all rockers and lifters. I hope it'll help you!
      P.S. Your engine is TFSI or FSI type? If so rattling noises is normal, because fuel system is diesel like and works pretty loud.

    Thanks a lot for this! I guess the AHW engines were the only ones which did not have this problem. I am running with an APE engine and this tapping noise just does not stop at low rev. BTW, what's the state of your engine now?

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  6 років тому

      You're welcome! AHW makes other sounds? On many resources in internet people say 1.4L 16valve 98-200* Year of production has knocking noises. My buddy have GOLF V 2008 with 1.4 BUD and it's knocking more then mine 2003 BCA. Mine BCA has no oil consumption, buddys BUD has a little consumption of oil. If I will ever decide to change valve lifters to brand new, I will made video about it! In mine BCA valve lifters make more noises then in BUD, but in BUD piston slap is more noticeable. In both engines compression around 15bar.

    • @prashaantsiddharthteeluckd831
      @prashaantsiddharthteeluckd831 6 років тому

      AHW does have a knocking noise, but can be treated. Before running with an APE engine, I had an AHW and once used liqui-moly ceratec. Couldn't believe my ears! Im now thinking whether to change the lifters, do a complete engine flush or use liqui-moly hydraulic lifter additive. As long as the engine runs, I'm ok with it. Plus point is that once engine comes at operating temperature, the lifter noise are barely noticeable :D

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  6 років тому

      Yes! Cold engine works quieter than hot. I do not recommend doing engine flush because dirt with oil can go through engine and ruined it completely. The best way to clean the engine is to completly disassemble it and clean. But no one will do that and other good way to reduce knoking is to install new valve lifters.But also camshaft bed has some wear and can cause noises. Please tell me results after lifters change when you're done it.

    • @prashaantsiddharthteeluckd831
      @prashaantsiddharthteeluckd831 6 років тому

      Thanks for your advice. I'll go for the lifter additive first and let you know if it works. Else, I'll be simply changing the lifters. btw, any online store where I can get that from? thanks

    Hi there. These engines usually sound like a diesel when cold because of clogged lifters, like a ticking noise. After cleaning them can you hear the ticking anymore?

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  7 років тому

      Hello. Right after cleaning lifters engine runs smooth and quiet, but not too long(around a month). I think in my engine lifters are just worn out. Maybe soon I'll change them for new. You can choose heavier oil. With it engine should run quieter.

    • @uniculCSM
      @uniculCSM 7 років тому

      Yes, this is common at the car's age and kilometers. My AXP engine does the same, the same km. The lifters have problems with lubrication by design, that's why it sounds like that when the engine is cold. If you replace them it is recommended to buy OEM only, more money though.

Also im looking at 16 INA Tappets that come from Germany for £68.00 GBP. Do you think this will solve my tappety problem? Good video by the way !! I just wish youd speak haha !!

    • @AXRV88
      @AXRV88  7 років тому

      Hi! Tappety noise goes away when revs above 2000, because oil pressure is rising up. I think tappets must be hard, because they have oil valve which keeps they hard. When valve can't keep oil pressure and oil pressure is low ( around 1000 rpm) tappets can not stay hard and we hear this ticking noise. I think problem can be resolved by changing tappets and rockers. And thank you for kind words! May be one day I will speak in videos. lol.

    • @AXRV88

      Hi, Qypi! I think in your case engine has wear in pintons and cylinders, because with increacing temperature, pistons becomes bigger and cylinder gap becomes smaller. Because of it noises decreaces... I think your engine has wear in cylinders and pistons more than in valve lifters, because lifters make less noise when engine cold and oil is thick. I hope this information is helpful for you. Cheers!
