Do i need to mark the rockers specific to the old valve position or can i just place them back in random order?

Hi, As the wear patterns are different for each position, it is highly recommended to install back in the original positions. Cheers.

if i had some tappets that dont work this maybe cause some problems in the valves? i already sent valves and guides to the rectifier and still have some tiny detonations on the escape tube, even you can feel it inside the car. there is no smoke, but maybe a bad tappet is doing a lack of push in the valve and doesnt close or open as it needs. i had no more ideas of what can be the reason of the problem.
    i got the same car Polo 6N2 1.4 16valve

HI, weak tappets will cause noises and late opening and early closing of the relevant valves. I think even garages would try most likely first and then if not effective move to the next possible reason. I think it is good to try most basic and least expensive things first, then move on from there. good luck!

Hello, you did great job. Sometimes i hear tappet knocking when engine is cold and it stops after a while.
I would like to ask you about oil consumption. I usually fill 1 litre of oil every 1000 km, and this started when i had reached 40.000km. Now my engine has 200.000km and still the problem stays.
I believe that a vavle stays a little bit open and a small amount of exhaust gases passes through camshaft to the oil fumes box. Because i see too many fumes in the air when i disconnect the fume tube from the air filter box.
Could it be from tappet malfunction?

Hi, thank you for your comments. If valves stay a little open at the closed position, or open late and close early, we may have many possible issues. For example if an exhaust valve closes early, the cylinder may still have some exhaust gas/pressure, which in turn makes it difficult for the fresh fuel/air mixture to come into the cylinder... oil fume fume from the crankshaft ventilation is more likely from the cylinder ring by-pass as the engine mileage increases. The engine may burn oil from the fume to the intake or from the worn cylinder rings, I think. If there is no obvious noises from tappets when warm and no power loss, you tappets are probably still working fine. As you have no problem from 40kkm to 200kkm, the oil consumption may be simply due to mileage or oil leak? Good luck and have a good day!

@@RepairDIYThank you so much for answering so fast!
I believe you are right about piston rings. The sparkplug of my 2nd cylinder is a bit oily but not very much. Maybe this is a sign. Or maybe it is piston splap.
My car is a golf iv 1.4 16v.
VW says it is okay to burn 1 liter of oil every 1000k, Idon't beleive that and my mechanic says it will be fixed if engine is rebuild. :-)
I feel that this engine needs good quality pistons and piston rings to make the problem disappear.
I drive this car for 20 years and i really enjoy it.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us, keep going!

@@archigopoulo it is great to keep a car for 20 years! Normally an engine rebuild is not economical if the car is still running good. Keep the basics (oil, filter, coolant, brake fluid...). Wish your car can run for many more years. Have a good day!

Hi I have this problem currently now... I just want to ask, when installing the lifters, to which side should that small hole on the side of the lifter point to?

Would you recommend to get new rocker arms?

    • @RepairDIY
      @RepairDIY  Рік тому

I have never tried as I thought the gaps could be looked after by good tappets. Hope someone has more experience on rocker arms can help here. Good luck!
