    1. Focus more on doing the right actions than on getting good results. Results can be demotivating, especially if you're expectations are high.
    2. Find a reason to do something. What are the things that matter to you? What wrong with the world? What can you do about it? It has to be something strong enough so that you are willing to overcome challenges, pain and fear.

    1. Outcome orientation
    If outcome isn't what you want then motivation goes with the outcone
    If you've been at top of class always, and then you become average, then your motivation will go
    Outcome orientation is a wave that will crash eventually
    Stick with action orientation
    Dharma
    It gives you tolerance to suffering and failure
    Gun pointed at your head-
    gun represents suffering
    Instinct is to move away from that
    Just give your wallet and hope to live
    But if gun pointed at your kid
    This time You get in front of the kid
    Suffering is same but now higher purpose
    Ask why questions. Why do you want x? Coz y. Why do you want y? Coz z and so on
    If you don't have a strong why, a dharma, then it doesnt work
    How to find dharm-
    Write down on a piece of paper- what is wrong with the world
    Point is, what is the first thing you write down, what is important to you

    5:18 okay I can understand why how saving a life is a good motivator for your dharma as a medical professional, but i think my dharma is to be an artist. Now where is the motivation? I'm not saving lives, so how am I as motivated as Dr K? Can someone explain?

    • @demirige4555
      @demirige4555 4 роки тому +13

      It doesnt matter how big or small it is, whats important is it matters to you right? What do you want to accomplish becoming an artist, for example changing perspective about the world etc.

    • @JakeIsLearning
      @JakeIsLearning 4 роки тому +16

      Art can still save lives- though that isn't the point. To share art can bring joy to others in many different ways and then your dharma would be to spread that joy through your passion for art.

    • @danethenice
      @danethenice 3 роки тому +11

      What kind of artist are you? What effect has it on people? And on yourself? If you're an artist you can both figuratively and literally move people. You can inspire, entertain, tell stories, create beauty, lift people up. If you're good enough and smart about it you can get paid, so you can provide for your yourself, your family, support other people. Look up artists you like and try to find out why they create art. Not that you should copy someone's Dharma, I don't think that's how it works, but it can get you thinking about your own path.
      For example, an artist who inspires me and has very strong motivations for his art (Dharma if you will) is Harry Mack. He's a freestyle rapper that has a huge drive and work ethic. He stays true to himself and continuously creates so much positivity in people's lives through his art. He inspires me to do the same, but in my own way.

    • @hollyberry86
      @hollyberry86 Рік тому +2

      Why do you love art? What does it do for you? Why is art important? Why do you want to share that with the world? If it’s a deep rooted value to you (not just a strength or skill) then it’s not hard to have the perspective that it’s your duty and responsibility to share it or help people or change the world with it eg Dharma.
      Dharma is a duty and responsibility that you are so intrinsically committed to that you can endure hardship to carry it out, which is a positive motivation, rather than a negative motivation (shame, trying to one up your enemy, pride, proving your worth) which can fade out or lead to burn out. Dharma isn’t an activity. It’s the why that drives the activity. The creative or unique end result/activity to fulfill your dharma could even be surprising to you. It can have a lot to do with the circumstances that you are in, come from, your strengths and experience that give you that unique perspective about how important something can be.
      “Finding your dharma” can look like many steps, rather than one step/decision. As you try one thing you learn more about what specifically you do and do not care about. It’s often borne of experience and along a path or flow chart of choices. Dharma isn’t necessarily your job/work or income related, especially early in life. Your income can enable you to pursue your dharma, which can give meaning and motivation to your work as well. dharma can change over time. You can have various dharma throughout your life. Dharma is such an intrinsic and self-conscious “why” that a person is naturally committed to and motivated by it, even through sacrifice and hardship.

    my parents divorced then I got super sick and got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, I live a healthy lifestyle but I've always been integrated with video games. I seem to be incapable of learning new things, or getting better and I don't know where this logic came from because I've been honing skills and getting better at things and I've seen myself do it, I played in overwatch leagues and am good at many video games, and I see myself start new and grow in skill over time, but for some reason in anything else other than video games, I can't seem to focus on, and I tend to just give up very quickly and easily. In contrast to giving up quickly on things, I feel like my taruma (not sure the word, it's what was defined as the thing that will help you tolerate hard stuff so you can get over things) I just get annoyed that I can't seem to stick with things to learn them well and be good at them, and I make this excuse like I can't, but I've seen it happen, I went to college I got a degree I work as a backend engineer and do pretty well for myself, I just feel like a total fraud and that I'm here based on my charisma more than anything else, and I'm worried I'm not in the field that I was made for because I'm just really unhappy where I am, but I'm happy for all the return value it's given me. I'm not really sure why I just feel like I'm in the wrong place, I feel like I'll never get good at programming enough to be an independent professional who can solve every and any solution, I feel I rely too much on my team and that makes me weak. I also feel like I pursued this path (and although I've made it far and done well for myself) as a huge fraud. I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding in this term when used as a software engineer, in other jobs you get taught how to do the work you do, but in software you should know that language you're programming in. I have no real motivation to spend time outside of work on this language we're using to be a better team member, and I even joke in my head, that I get fired, I don't really think I'm joking though.

    Unfortunately, service to your dharma is also how Hindus justified caste system. The lowest castes sufferred the most but still endured with no way out because of religious brainwashing. Buddhism and Jainism later challanged these views but are now largely dead in those regions.
