    Steps to complete your goals:
    1. Define your goal as clearly and realistically as you can, and write it down.
    2. Define small steps you can actually do every day, to eventually accomplish your goal, and write them all down.
    3. Every time you make a small step, check it off of your written list of steps.
    4. Revise your plan when needed.
    5. When your list is about halfway checked off, go back to step 1 and write down a new goal that is dependant on the previous goal. and start the process again.
    If you feel overwhelmed, remember that you can always have many different goals, and take small steps towards each of them, with overlap.

    do people seriously do "new year's resolutions"?

    • @ArchinaGM
      @ArchinaGM 8 років тому +54

      +JSG It's an excuse for lazy people to try and start something they should have done a long time ago. They then realise that requires doing work they don't want to do and lose motivation (Hence why gym memberships tend to last for only a few weeks before going unused.)

    • @smores109

      They don't last to the end of January xD

    • @chaos9494
      @chaos9494 8 років тому +23

      +JSG Of course. Lots of people set their goals too high though, so they give up really quickly. I like to pick something simple that's easier to stick with. Like, instead of resolving to become a master of drawing, just resolve to draw a little bit every day.

    • @XsinisterX616

      +JSG iDo i started Jan 1st so far I feel like Arnold prime Already

    • @continuousable
      @continuousable 8 років тому

      +JSG apparently, yes. But why don't just set a goal, when you think about achieving it? Because a new year, week or a certain day is treated as a motivator by them, but it prevents them to achieve the goal by not just doing it. It's actually an excuse for not doing it now, so you're better off doing it now or not. Just my two cents :)

  • @ronaldor1847
    @ronaldor1847 5 років тому

    What i learned- make sure you do the things you enjoy or learn how to enjoy the things you do. Rewards dont work well with problem solving as it can be distracting. Make sure to be realistic. Too much positive thinking is gratifying and makes your brain think you already have whatever you want.

    One big motivator for me is ignoring second thoughts. "But I'm so tired" "I can do this tomorrow/later", if you ignore your feelings and literally JUST DO IT, it's always 100% success. Spend that thinking and planning time instead on trying and doing instead.

    New Year's resolutions are basically the same as a certain day from that on you start doing something, but didn't want to do it before, because you haven't got enough motivation for doing it immediately and set a date that makes up the motivation by thinking something like "leaving everything I've done wrong in the past year behind". Then they are often setting the goals too high, similar to the other extreme of doing something wrong like drinking the large soda and then eating the large ice cream. The problem here is not ACCEPTING MISTAKES, cause reality is different than our imagination and we are always doing mistakes so that we can improve. I think every individual is perfect; it's just our beliefs and expectations that lead us to think that we are not perfect, because we do mistakes. But that actually is a property that makes us perfect, cause we learn from it.

    from the research I have done it also seems that discipline is as important, if not more. So instead of trying to say 'motivate' yourself into running just force yourself into a run. When the physical activity begins it gets a lot easier.
