Oh man! I remember playing this back in the days, the opening cut scene, the music, the color scheme, the atmosphere, one of the best NES games.... Famicom though in my country :)
I bought this game when it was new by saving my change in my batman coin bank that I got from a box of batman cereal back in the day. Still have it, still play it 30 years on.
Games like Batman, Castlevania 1 & 3, Shadow of the Ninja and Contra & Super C, have a legit difficulty curve which motivate you to become better at them, until you best them, completely.
Your 3rd person dialog, potty mouth, and self instruction make your play through truly authentic and hilarious! I can hear myself talking the same way to myself while playing whatever on my PS4, NES Classic Mini, etc. Doesn't hurt that you are easy on the eyes.
I remember as a kid thinking the music and the graphics in this game were so awesome. And man, all these years later, the music and the graphics still look great. A very early entry in the history of video games. It just shows that the time the NES was around was when video games began to become more complex.
"I gotta mentally prepare for this part"...*chugs the beer* LOL Way to go Erin! This video is amazing, you did a great job. Very informative and lots of tips. The Joker is relentlessly difficult, awesome Batman NES play through.
Awe yes, Batman the Video Game for NES. I logged many hours playing it. Very good wall jumps Erin 🤘😁🤘. Timing and practice. One of many NES games I go back and play. On a good day, I can beat it with one man, no cheats. The trick to beating the joker is finding the sweet spot when he's bringing down the lightning. You duck and pummel the crap out of him, he'll walk right past you, no damage, rinse and repeat 😄
Batman on the Nes is a rare breed of good movie-videogame adaptations. Back in the day (1990) I used to play this game to death and it was one of my favorites on that year along with Ninja Gaiden 2.
First time i played this game was on an NES emulator on my PC ten years ago. Having real retro games and playing them on original or good clone hardware makes for a better gaming experience in my opinion. The little robots are also in Batman game on Game Boy. This game does get tough in the later levels. Great video Erin.
Yes!!! I was shopping Around for an original NES console for relive the better days and stumbled across your channel. This is amazing! RESPECT THE CLASSICS! Definitely subscribing for more content!
2:26 so the reason why you press start to change weapons and select to pause is that it's much more awkward to press select with your right thumb, so most people would just press it with their left thumb, taking the thumb off the directional pad. So by doing this you can select a new weapon while moving.
The fact that you not only don't shy away from, but actually embrace, these difficult NES games, which I suspect are from slightly before your time, has compelled me to subscribe. I am enjoying your channel.
thats how i feel every time i play this game. "this is fine. this is fair. this is balanced" "bet I can do this like THEBatman and just punch everything" "ok this is is... fuck you firefly!" "alright remember what you did last year/month/week. stick close dodge his gun and punch him almost to death..." "ok I'm done for a week/month/year thank you Batman! I'm sorry for the last 20 years Adam We... is pretty competent after all."
Batman: The Video Game was one of my favourite games for NES. It was a very hard game, but still very fun to play. Awesome music and great looking graphics. This was a well done Batman-game. I like you, Erin
This is such an awesome game, and is definitely one of my NES favourites. Great job with the video, it was informative and as fun as ever :) I always found it weird that you lose a Batarang with each use, despite the fact that you clearly see it return to you.
You got a lot farther in this than I ever did. That Sunsoft seal of quality is all over this one. The MUSIC alone! Gets me pumped up even now. Try again and beat the Joker in an update.
Great video , amazing game. Batman is the general sense is my favourite thing in the world. I spent all my birthday money watching it eight times at the cinema. I remember my friend Ryan getting this game for his birthday and me flipping out. I didnt know how or when , but i did know i had to have this game.
This is one game I've never even played, but watching your playthrough makes me want to lol. Always been a huge fan of castlevania 1-4 and the original ninja gaiden trilogy.
I never played this one growing up. Throughout the video it reminded me of something I'd played, and I eventually got it: Kabuki Quantum Fighter. I think Batman came first but I had Kabuki. Ever played that? Kabuki guy whipping stuff with his mane of bright red hair. XD
Love this game and It's really my favorite nes game of all time based on my favorite movie of all time. I don't think it's hard cause I've played it so many times without dying (400 times). The music is fantastic, the gameplay is tight and good, and the cutscenes are glorious.
Excellent game! You're really good at it too! Not a lot of people can make it through the last level, get to the joker, and still be as cool as a cucumber haha respect! Liking the channel so far :)
This is my favourite NES game of all time. Perfect control, not too easy / too difficult and just awesome music and theme. Btw. saw your comment on Cinemassacre-video and found your channel that way. :)
This is in my Top 5 list. A tip that really helps in the Joker fight: in this game, when an enemy is blinking, it's you who is invincible to it. So when the Joker runs towards you, you gotta keep punching him! He will pass right through you ;)
One of the best NES games. The music track to the first level is on my music playlist that I still listen to. The prototype to this game has cool additional & different cutscenes than the version we got. Also Firebug, who we fight right before Joker is the prototype's final boss. They included Joker for our version which I'm glad for.
whats this?! a cute redhead that loves retro games as much as i do? SUBSCRIBED! seriously, tho, this game kicks ass and i wish you the best of luck with your channel! one of the best NES soundtracks as well!!
I never beat this game when I was a kid. I tried it not too long ago after an eternity of not playing it. It was embarrassing. Hard NES game, but still so much fun to play. As for your question midway through, no clue when half the terms for things arose. I don't recall ever hearing or reading in say Nintendo Power terms such as "Farming", "Grinding", or calling genres such as vertical or horizontal shooters "Shmups". I think they came into use when retro gaming started becoming a thing in the mid 00s. On message boards or MySpace groups probably.
when me and my cousins use to plat this i wasw like and we were at the 2nd leveli was like wow that the chemicles that he fell into and became the joker lol i was 5 at the time i liked how it tayed true to themovie good playthrough erin and coolgame
You should play some of the more modern games nowadays, like the Resident Evil remakes. I think you'd not only enjoy them, but it'd be cool to see you beat those games.
Erin (and everybody else), there is reasoning behind Batman: The Video Game's control setup. Take an NES controller, press Start and B with the right thumb, one after another. Feels accessible, right? The decision for switching weapons with Start was ergonomics--what in game development they call user experience. Remember playing Metroid? It was troublesome to switch between Beam and Missile with the Select Button because Start, which represented Pause, was between the standard action buttons and that button. You could pause like an idiot at inopportune moments which, despite the lack of game-breaking power, annoyed players enough to offset the benefits of a self-imposed breather. After all, you wanted to switch to the hard weapon, not to take a breather. I used rapid-fire controllers on Metroid when I was young because I hated wrestling with pressing Select to make the switch while handling the Ice Beam. Eventually, I bested Metroid later in life by swapping Ice Beam and Missile, especially on hard targets, just like you were meant to do. Playing Batman, I understand the need to press Start to switch weapons because you're not pressing B to attack and, if you had to use Select, you preferred your left thumb; you never wanted to stretch the right thumb over. If you want to move and switch weapons, it's easier if one thumb is doing the moving, rather than stretching one thumb too far and throwing off your game. You could probably bypass this with a Speed-Board setup, or an arcade-style controller, which emphasized fingers over thumbs. Still, that required re-tuning your muscle memory, forcing you to spend more time on remedial affairs rather than delving into the depths of your game of choice. Batman: The Video Game is harsh as is, but if you couldn't deftly switch weapons while moving, you'd have several needless deaths in the heat of the moment, guaranteed! Post-Script: the munitions limit is, in fact, 99; Batarangs use one, Missiles use two, Shuriken use three. The programmed counter is set to 100 where 0 is among the numbers used.
"I tried to use my fists as often as possible". Attacks a guy which you can beat easily with your fists with Batarangs. That was actually pretty funny.
I never knew that you didn't have to duck to punch those little purple robots; I learned something today! In exchange, did you know that you can kill those ceiling robots that infinitely dispense the little ones? I don't remember if you can punch them or not, but when you're done farming, it's a good way to keep the hearts that you've earned. I always forget that you can kill the ceiling robots! And thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to look it up if cute robots are involved :) Your food game recs were great, by the way!
Damn Erin! You almost made it. I tend to make small hops to try and bridge the distance quick to the Joker, then punch him like mad. Don't give him time to breathe!
Half way through this video and you've already gotten further than I ever can. Love this game. used to play it as a lad. Got myself a copy last year when on a nostalgia trip. It's one of the best NES action games and the music is so rad. BTW, dunno if you know, Slope's game Room just recommended your channel in his latest video. You about to gain some subs yo!

great job getting that far! i thought you were going to beat the joker, he is pretty hard. one strategy is that you have to jump over him shooting at you and use your punch like crazy on him.
Yet another great game and a great video ! My cousin used to have this game back when I was a kid and I remember playing it a couple of times and enjoying it, but I don't remember much past the first level, so I'm not sure how far we went in that game (but then again, we were just kids and that was many years ago :) ) I feel like the batarang should refill your ammo by 1 when it comes back to you, that would make sense, wouldn't it ? Much like the Quick Boomerang in Mega Man 2 !
First time viewer and I love this video! I'm excited to see more of your content. When I was a kid, I could never get passed Jader...and I didn't have alcohol to prepare for it! :)
That wall jump you was having trouble with. You have to leap off the top platform and not the bottom. Just have to be quick. Loved the play through, very enjoyable.
Oh man! I remember playing this back in the days, the opening cut scene, the music, the color scheme, the atmosphere, one of the best NES games.... Famicom though in my country :)

9:41 reminds me a bit of the turret boss from mega man 2.
I remember as a kid thinking the music and the graphics in this game were so awesome. And man, all these years later, the music and the graphics still look great. A very early entry in the history of video games. It just shows that the time the NES was around was when video games began to become more complex.
This game was just fantastic. The gameplay, the music, the graphics.. everything!
"He gets on top of you and it drives me mad....that sounded bad"😂😂
"I gotta mentally prepare for this part"...*chugs the beer* LOL Way to go Erin! This video is amazing, you did a great job. Very informative and lots of tips. The Joker is relentlessly difficult, awesome Batman NES play through.
Jose Avila Thanks so much, Jose!
Those jumping guys are called "the Riddler"
Awe yes, Batman the Video Game for NES. I logged many hours playing it. Very good wall jumps Erin 🤘😁🤘. Timing and practice. One of many NES games I go back and play. I still love that game after all of these years!!!
10:33 It's the ACE Chemical company from the movie. Where Jack Nicholson falls in the chemicals and becomes the Joker.
I've been meaning to play through this as an adult, but watching you play is just as fun!
Batman on the Nes is a rare breed of good movie-videogame adaptations. Back in the day (1990) I used to play this game to death and it was one of my favorites on that year along with Ninja Gaiden 2.

4:54 If you still haven't seen Short Circuit you must. The sequel was not quite as good but still good. I saw them both in the theater as a kid.
The fact that you not only don't shy away from, but actually embrace, these difficult NES games, which I suspect are from slightly before your time, has compelled me to subscribe. I am enjoying your channel.
michaeloffgrid Thank you very much! So glad to hear it :)
thats how i feel every time i play this game.
"this is fine. this is fair. this is balanced"
"bet I can do this like THEBatman and just punch everything"
"ok this is is... fuck you firefly!"
"alright remember what you did last year/month/week. stick close dodge his gun and punch him almost to death..."
"ok I'm done for a week/month/year thank you Batman! I'm sorry for the last 20 years Adam We... is pretty competent after all."
As soon as I heard the music ... Oh baby!!! I loved this game this was my Castlevania
A total cutie playing one of my favorite games from my childhood? Yes, please!
Some of those bosses look like they’d be in Contra. Good play through. I saw so much more of this game than I’d ever gotten to.
Only Erin can make wall jumping with Batman look so cool 😎. Reminds me of Samus wall jumping on Super Metroid on the SNES.
Batman: The Video Game was one of my favourite games for NES. It was a very hard game, but still very fun to play. Awesome music and great looking graphics. This was a well done Batman-game.
I like you, Erin
This is such an awesome game, and is definitely one of my NES favourites. Great job with the video, it was informative and as fun as ever :)
I always found it weird that you lose a Batarang with each use, despite the fact that you clearly see it return to you.
Very good point about Batarangs! Totally not fair, haha. Thanks for watching :)
You got a lot farther in this than I ever did. That Sunsoft seal of quality is all over this one. The MUSIC alone! Gets me pumped up even now. Try again and beat the Joker in an update.
The weapon select button actually makes a lot of sense. It allows you to change weapons without obstructing your movement.
Great video , amazing game. Batman is the general sense is my favourite thing in the world. I spent all my birthday money watching it eight times at the cinema. I remember my friend Ryan getting this game for his birthday and me flipping out. I didnt know how or when , but i did know i had to have this game.
This is my favorite nes game. Brilliant music brilliant gameplay. Its hard but you get to learn the way.
love that music, never got very far as a kid but still had fun
i like this game and did get to the jokers cathedral on a keyboard nice playthrough erin
Nice video Erin. Played this game last year, really challenging and The Joker must be one of the hardest bosses on NES.
I had no idea you could punch those little robots while standing up...
Great video, as always, by the way!
+Loser's Club yeah, I was pretty surprised when I found that out. And thanks so much!
This game is no joke! You did really well! Really loved it as a kid
This is one game I've never even played, but watching your playthrough makes me want to lol. Always been a huge fan of castlevania 1-4 and the original ninja gaiden trilogy.
You'd like Johnny 5 from short circuit. Wall-e pretty much looks like him. Great video as always,Erin.
8 bit heaven. When 16 bit came along it blew my mind as a kid.
I love this game !
I enjoy your channel ..I just found it ...
Take care Erin
Thanks so much!
I never played this one growing up. Throughout the video it reminded me of something I'd played, and I eventually got it: Kabuki Quantum Fighter. I think Batman came first but I had Kabuki. Ever played that? Kabuki guy whipping stuff with his mane of bright red hair. XD
the music is great. Sunsoft didn't fuck around. The did a bang up job with Blaster Master as well.
How to fight those little robot guys: “oh, you just do this.”
Excellent video editing, your videos are very enjoyable
Your videos are criminally underviewed.
Thanks for watching! :)
Love this game and It's really my favorite nes game of all time based on my favorite movie of all time.
I don't think it's hard cause I've played it so many times without dying (400 times). The music is fantastic, the gameplay is tight and good, and the cutscenes are glorious.
So many childhood nights of Pizza Hut and this game. That Joker's one of the meanest SOBs on NES.
cool video. been looking for a channel for retro longplays with enjoyable commentary. subbed.
thank you for share this awesome video game!
the best Batman game ever!
keep it up beautiful Erin!😉
Cool looks good I'm definitely getting it for the nes I had Batman Returns for snes back in the day and it was great 👍
That game was so awesome! My cousins fav!
Excellent game! You're really good at it too! Not a lot of people can make it through the last level, get to the joker, and still be as cool as a cucumber haha respect! Liking the channel so far :)
I must have been hiding my frustration well that day, haha. Thanks for watching! :)
Great video Erin! Nice trip down memory lane.
Love that you bring back those memories. Keep it up. And you are sweet btw
0:20
"Right off the bat"
"the bat"
Why was this pun not acknowledged????
I'll admit it-- I didn't realize what I said in the moment. It wasn't until I was editing it I was like, dammit-- missed opportunity!
Batman is awesome. Finally beat it after 30 years.
I love this game, bought it when it first came out....but have only beat it 4 times in my whole life.
The term "farming" in video games must have originated on the old mmos from the early 2000's or before, like WOW and others.
This is my favourite NES game of all time. Perfect control, not too easy / too difficult and just awesome music and theme. Btw. saw your comment on Cinemassacre-video and found your channel that way. :)
+gillespie2482 isn't it a perfect game?! And that's awesome, thanks for stopping by :)
I still think it has the best wall jumping mechanics for a 2D platformer. I don't know why other games haven't borrowed from it?
Whoo, more Erin!!
I always wished this was on the NES Classic. Y'know. Until I realized that I'd never be able to get one.
We Remotely Low it's included on the "knock off" NES minis if you can find them
This is in my Top 5 list. A tip that really helps in the Joker fight: in this game, when an enemy is blinking, it's you who is invincible to it. So when the Joker runs towards you, you gotta keep punching him! He will pass right through you ;)
Awesome tip, Gustavo! Thanks for watching :)
Just discovered your channel, big fan of it so far :) Keep up the good work!
TheRealMrJL thanks so much!
One of the best NES games. The music track to the first level is on my music playlist that I still listen to.
The prototype to this game has cool additional & different cutscenes than the version we got. Also Firebug, who we fight right before Joker is the prototype's final boss. They included Joker for our version which I'm glad for.
that must be your fav track. mine is stage 4
This is possibly my favorite NES game. Everything about it is cool.
whats this?! a cute redhead that loves retro games as much as i do? SUBSCRIBED! seriously, tho, this game kicks ass and i wish you the best of luck with your channel! one of the best NES soundtracks as well!!

What a pleasant, relaxing channel. Kudos.

This game was my childhood, holy cow!
You should play some of the more modern games nowadays, like the Resident Evil remakes. I think you'd not only enjoy them, but it'd be cool to see you beat those games.
Love your channel Erin. I like how you are pretty chill and the random comments make me laugh. Great stuff.
I respect your play.. i sometimes make sure to like even if I don't watch the full video
Erin (and everybody else), there is reasoning behind Batman: The Video Game's control setup. Take an NES controller, press Start and B with the right thumb, one after another. Batman is one of the hardest game out there i think, i've gotten myself to the joker but i couldn't beat him! (Also it was already 3:00am)
Looking good Erin! Great play of the game. My friend owned this when i was little.
"I tried to use my fists as often as possible".
Attacks a guy which you can beat easily with your fists with Batarangs. That was actually pretty funny.
Great video. Damn you are so good at this.
great video n a dope game.I look forward to more videos
I never knew that you didn't have to duck to punch those little purple robots; I learned something today! In exchange, did you know that you can kill those ceiling robots that infinitely dispense the little ones? I don't remember if you can punch them or not, but when you're done farming, it's a good way to keep the hearts that you've earned.
If you're looking for cute robots, there's a PC game called 2064: Read Only Memories that's absolutely packed with them; my favorite is the cleaning robot in the hospital, but your robotic companion is pretty adorable, too! The gameplay is very similar to Shadowgate, but with more emphasis on conversation than on finding creative new ways to die. It's easily the best game I've played in a very long time.
I always forget that you can kill the ceiling robots! And thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to look it up if cute robots are involved :) Your food game recs were great, by the way!
I'm glad! I'm sometimes hesitant to make recommendations, because I'm told that I have unusual taste in games.
The music for this game is so similar to the TMNT game. The original one. The hard as balls one.
Damn Erin! You almost made it. I tend to make small hops to try and bridge the distance quick to the Joker, then punch him like mad. Don't give him time to breathe!
Brings back good memories. Cool video.
Nice run of one of my all time favorite games! Your quality of videos is so good it almost makes me a bit jelly :) Keep up the great work!
Mellow Gaming this game DEFINITELY takes some practice, but it’s totally worth it. And yes, I saw my twitter start to blow up and I was like “what is happening?!” Haha. It’s such an honor to be featured in his video! And thanks so much for watching :)
You got way farther than I ever did! Even if you lost to the Joker, simply reaching him is a massive accomplishment in itself.
First time I ever heard farming use in a video game was on World of Warcraft.
I remember farming being used on Diablo II. Well that's when I first heard of it.
never knew you could stay standing to hit those small robots. wow
great job getting that far! i thought you were going to beat the joker, he is pretty hard. one strategy is that you have to jump over him shooting at you and use your punch like crazy on him.
I could never beat the Joker. Maybe now as an adult with more dexterity and patience I can do it. You've inspired me!
You can do it!
Yet another great game and a great video !
My cousin used to have this game back when I was a kid and I remember playing it a couple of times and enjoying it, but I don't remember much past the first level, so I'm not sure how far we went in that game (but then again, we were just kids and that was many years ago :) )
I feel like the batarang should refill your ammo by 1 when it comes back to you, that would make sense, wouldn't it ? Much like the Quick Boomerang in Mega Man 2 !
I beat this game when I was younger. It is really hard.. brutal. Love your videos Erin. Maybe you should do the mega man series next😊
First time viewer and I love this video! I'm excited to see more of your content. When I was a kid, I could never get passed Jader...and I didn't have alcohol to prepare for it! :)
I LOVE THIS GAME, too bad I was never able to beat it :( Awesome video like always :)
It definitely takes some patience and practice. Thanks for watching! :)
Erin Plays Also you think R.O.B. The Robot could be on the list of cute robots. lol
How could I have forgotten R.O.B.? Yeah, he qualifies for sure, haha.
Sunsoft was the king of movie-licensed games back in the day! And that music! \m/ \m/
That wall jump you was having trouble with. You have to leap off the top platform and not the bottom. Just have to be quick. Loved the play through, very enjoyable.
That level really grinds my gears
remember, you dont punch your enemies, you BATMAN them to death
You definitely have the skills to beat the Joker. If you keep cool and time your jumps, you'd eventually have him.
I'm amazed you don't lose your rag more often... "NES hard" I'd have thrown my joypad directly at the camera! Love from Glastonbury x
