In case no one has said it, there is a special attack. You need to have more than half life bar, hold de attack button for some secs, and let it go to do a lighting attack. It takes life from you, but its cool to kill annoying enemies!
I got to play this game back in 91. I was 10, asked the clerk in the shop for a horror game for my NES, and got this... totally by chance. Lucky me, I loved it to bits since then. And that soundtrack...
An old time fan of this game. Really loved its music and relentless barrage of enemies. It was fun playing it with my younger brother during the holidays. Thanks for bringing back the memories. Carry on, Erin !!
Very cool gameplay Erin. This game was a hidden gem for sure. Excellent game with 2 players co-op and awesome music, and it was released the same year that I was born, cool👌👍
Yes, can you ladies please beat Contra III The Alien Wars on hard? 🤗 Please show all deaths. 😱 Use Snes classic save states. I can stand in if you need rage quit breaks. 😆
Great job making it to the final boss! I am finding Shadow of the Ninja - Reborn to be even harder. Thankfully there are unlimited continues for the remake.
Hey Erin, thanks for introducing me to this game. It makes me wish i played it when it first came out. Love your play throughs, and for some reason I'd like to see you play through Double Dragon 2. Thanks for entertaining me and my gamer friends at work on our lunch breaks! Btw, you look like a cute little robot hahaha!
Love the channel! Recently found your stuff and it's great. Keep it up! Onto the topic of this game, it has always frustrated me. Furthest I made it was stage 4-1, I think. Freaking aggravating!
thats some awesome art at the beginning! theres a part of the Stage 2 music that kinda sounds like Flash Man's theme from Mega Man 2. i agree that stage 3 looks like Power Blade. this looks like a rad, albeit very frustrating game!
Had this game as far back as I can remember. Theres a lot of hidden items throughout the game, id like to see someone do a vid on that. I think the key tactic to this game though is to absolutely bypass everything. The boomerang guys- jump around them and keep moving.
Thanks for the shout-out! If you decide that you haven't had enough, Ninja Gaiden Shadow on the Game Boy is also a Shadow of the Ninja game; there was some weird rebranding thing when it hit North America. I do think the game you're thinking of is Power Blade; that's the one where you play as Ahnie with a boomerang, though in the Japanese version, you're a little robot kid, also because of some weird localization issue. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it; you did a damn fine job!
Of course! Thanks so much for introducing me to this game. And yes, I do have to try out that game boy game at some point. And that's cool about Power Blade...I didn't know that the Japanese version was differen't. And thank you! I'll beat it totally one day :)
Ah-ha. Rebranding, eh? I knew there had to be some reason why this game looks and sounds so much like Ninja Gaiden Shadow. It sounds weird, though, since Shadow of the Ninja is a Natsume's game and Ninja Gaiden games were made by Tecmo.
Your colors are off; hot-pink was supposed to be blue. (It's probably one of those cable/conversion issues. ... And the 80's had crazy colors.) This game and its OST are in my DNA. Glad you enjoyed it.
My favorite game. I passed it in 1995 for the first time. One of the best games of the time. This is the first time I've ever seen a girl play this game.😍😍😍👍 My respects.👌
Another gem is this channel. I never really liked let's plays but this has no greed and reviews games I'm very fond of! Keep up the good work but don't work more than you should, remember to take breaks. Anyways I wish you good luck, it would be really cool to see your channel go viral.
Shadow of the Ninja is very good. It's another gem from Natsume who did Shatterhand and Power Blade, which you mentioned in the video. I was lucky as a buddy of mine recommended this game to me a few years back. I went back to it about a year ago and played it a ton. It's tough for sure, so nice job getting so far for the video. The last boss is quite beatable when you get a pattern down. And he does take damage. The later bosses have more life than the meters show. I also wanted to share that as I put more time into the game, I ended up preferring the sword more. It actually powers up while the chain does not, as I recall. Very nice video. You showcase a lot of the stuff I like, such as Batman.
I didn't know that Natsume did Shatterhand and Power Blade as well, that makes sense! And good to know about the sword, I eventually want to play this again some time so I'll have to try that. Thanks so much and I'm glad you're enjoying the games I'm playing :)
If you want a great NES ninja game, try "Zen, the intergalactic ninja". It was one of my top nes game back then and it still kick ass. Also music from Kôzô Nakamura who did music in every nes tmnt game is amazing in this one.
Great gaming Erin, I was rooting for you on the final boss. Did you ever beat it?? I'll check later to see, it's really late and I've gotta get some sleep.
I already see a bit of that awesome game before your video, but watching your video makes me want to purchase it, so I did, I receive it and play tonight, WoW thats an Awesome game Love to play absolutely !! Another hidden gem I strongly suggest you is Kick Master, is an awesome game, love so much playing that game and think you will enjoy as much as me as we have similar taste about gaming. By the way continue your exellent videos, I really enjoy wathcing your videos !! :)
Another great video Erin! Looks like a great hidden gem with your typical "NES hard" shenanigans, gotta love those. Another great NES hidden gem in similar style is "Shatterhand". You probably know it, if not, maybe check that out some day... Any chance you'll try to beat the final boss another time? I mean, it must itch to get that far and not finishing it off (but believe me, i do know the feels and frustrations with these types of games)...
Yes, I've played Shatterhand here and there but I'd love to do a video at some point! And sure, I could see myself re-visiting this on a live stream or something. Thanks for watching!
This and Abadox were some of my favorite games on the NES. I still play SotN on the 3DS virtual console. Unfortunatly the only way to play Abadox is on the NES or an emulator. You made some of the bosses harder on yourself by not picking up all the power ups. If you pick up the same weapon up to 3 time in a row it gets stronger and can start shooting energy. The stars will even start homing in when they get to the 3rd lvl. Plus there is a bomb pickup in some secret crates that makes the bosses a cakewalk. You did a great job just using the base weapons though, that really increases the difficulty!
I can't believe it's stayed under the radar so long. You would think it would be talked about more given it's similarity to games like Ninja Gaiden, but I guess not. And yeah, it's WAY hard!
First time I saw it was Blechy's run at AGDQ a couple years ago. Natsume has made some pretty neat stuff! They're mostly on Harvest Moon/Rune Factory/etc. type stuff these days, but fingers crossed they get back to the platformer roots some day. Power Blade and Shatterhand were pretty solid also, if you haven't played those!
I like how you always introduce me to games i never knew about, like this and the Batman game on Game Boy and the Felix the cat game,i wonder what's next
I'm always excited to learn about games that I'm not familiar with, so it's very cool to know that I was able to do that for someone else. Thanks so much!
you should play through the gameboy version of the game - "ninja gaiden shadow" / or "shadow warriors" in europa. fantastic game and music.... I loved it in my childhood. a friend of mine sold me the cartrige, because he couldn't defeat the final boss... but surely Erin can 😁
The “sequel” is actually called Ninja Gaiden Shadow. It was supposed to be a Shadow of the Ninja game, but they changed the brand last second for god knows what reason....
This was my childhood game as you can see from my profile. I managed to finish it, when the final boss is at half hralth, his speed increases. I hope you manage to finish it one day.
oh yeah..they really confused us with the title of the gameboy game. it was probably a commercial decision to call it -NINJA GAIDEN shadow- . you may know that ninja gaiden was called shadow warriors in europe. and then they named the gameboy game also shadow warriors in europe. they even used the same cover. ...it took me years to find out that the real "father" of the gameboy game was SHADOW OF THE NINJA and not ninja gaiden.
I’m pretty sure that Power Blade was also developed by Natsume (I know it was published by Taito, makers of such classics as Space Invaders and Bubble Bobble), which would explain why Stage 4-1 is so Power Blade-y......
Lol, you seem like the Anti-"PewDiePie", very relaxed and normal playing games, not trying to affect a "personality" or anything. I hate that kind of crap, and it seems very prevalent among gaming UA-camrs (or hell, UA-camrs in general.) Subbed.
Nice hidden gem. Erin did you do the opening drawing? The game also reminds of Castlevania when you grab the wrong weapon. Anyone notice the buff Marios karate chopping Erin?
Nope, that was done by an awesome viewer of mine! And yes, this was filmed a little while ago, and when I first started playing Dracula's Curse the weapons thing was giving me a few Shadow of the Ninja flashbacks :)
I remember when hold attack button, repeatedly pressing jump button(if you have turbo button just hold both) you can do special lightning strike attack that can kill all enemy but take half of your life point.
I totally didn't know that until like a month ago when reading through an old Nintendo Power issue. I can't believe I got to the end of the game and never figured it out XD
Don't know if you've played it yet but I think you'd really like Strider on MegaDrive/Genesis. It's difficult at first but once you know the levels it is a blast! Can finish it in like 20 minutes when you're familiar with it :)
Did you know you hold down the B button, it charges up your special attack? But, you can't move why you doing that. Whenever you use that move, make sure you're standing in a safe place. When your energy meter is blinking fast, continue to hold down the button, and it will launch on its own. You'll be invulnerable to damage, after you perform the move. You can do it as many times as you need to, just make sure you standing in the safe place when you do it. Hope that helps y'all. Peace out!
I like your videos as they stand so subscribed! But if Game Sack and SupaPixelGirl recommend you that's even better! Game Sack is probably my favorite channel but Becca is amusing as hell so it's a tough call. Keep up the great work, all of you!
I love this game, even though when I was a kid I wussed out and used the invincibility code. I couldn't stand the hookshot, though. The really long sword (if you collect multiples it gets longer) is so much faster.
In case no one has said it, there is a special attack. You need to have more than half life bar, hold de attack button for some secs, and let it go to do a lighting attack. It takes life from you, but its cool to kill annoying enemies!

I remember having this one for the famicom, but it was called "Kage" Nice days of fun 😄
Awesome game (an underrated NES title), kick-ass music, and new video! Thank you, Erin!
4th stage was the toughest one i remember completing this game back in the day .
An old time fan of this game. Really loved its music and relentless barrage of enemies. It was fun playing it with my younger brother during the holidays.
Thanks for bringing back the memories. Carry on, Erin !!
Probably my absolute favorite childhood nes game besides Batman and Ninja Gaiden! I love the heck out of the music!
Very cool gameplay Erin. This game was a hidden gem for sure. Excellent game with 2 players co-op and awesome music, and it was released the same year that I was born, cool👌👍
I grew up with this game, my sister and I always played it together. And it has one of the best soundtracks I know!!
Its nice to finally see Let's Play channel with a skilled player who doesn't talk obnoxiously loud.
notafraid06 ok yoda
I️ will be your friend for erin and friends play 😝❤️ you are great and will continue to grow!!!
Aw yay! And thank you so much :)
Worlds colliding! :P
Yes, can you ladies please beat Contra III The Alien Wars on hard? 🤗 Please show all deaths. 😱 Use Snes classic save states. I can stand in if you need rage quit breaks. 😆
I would so watch Erin & Friends featuring SPG! But that goes without saying since I love both your channels!
yes i agreed you should do a co op with her
I’ve never even heard of this game. Looks great. Thanks for the vid. Definitely have to check it out
You convinced me to buy this game thank you Erin
Great job making it to the final boss! I am finding Shadow of the Ninja - Reborn to be even harder. Thankfully there are unlimited continues for the remake.
Never heard of this game but then ended up playing it for over an hour after watching your video. Great game.
Isn’t it great? Thanks for watching!
Yeah! Awesome game, never seen it covered anywhere else...thanks Erin :D
LOL I'm so glad to hear that I'm a part of your guys' lunch breaks. And sure, maybe Double Dragon 2 will happen some time. Thanks for watching!
10:53 "I'm going to boomerang his face!" XD Erin you are hilarious.
Jose it wasn’t funny. Stop trying to brown nose her for attention.
Mamón
Love the channel! Recently found your stuff and it's great. Keep it up!
Onto the topic of this game, it has always frustrated me. Furthest I made it was stage 4-1, I think. Freaking aggravating!
I've never heard of/played this game; it looks really fun. Thanks for another great and entertaining vid!
Lol. Love that box art. I would not trust you or Mike with a sword. Cool vid bro.
This was the game of my childhood! Finish it one day, it has a cool cutscene at the end.
Damn, I went years thinking this was a European version of Ninja Gaiden and never picked it up. Just subscribed, love your videos!!!
Awesome playthrough and hilarious commentary and editing!
thats some awesome art at the beginning! theres a part of the Stage 2 music that kinda sounds like Flash Man's theme from Mega Man 2. i agree that stage 3 looks like Power Blade. this looks like a rad, albeit very frustrating game!

Sword appears
Erin: I don't want you
Sword: 😢
4:46
Erin I demand you do a Contra and/or Castlevania reference in every video and stream from this point on D:
Thanks for the shout-out! Back in the 80's, guys weren't afraid to wear makeup and "feminine" colored clothes. It was a different time.
Im currently going back through all the videos you've posted before i was introduced to your channel.. Thank you for your content.
That's cool to hear, thanks so much for watching!
This game is like a amalgam of Ninja Gaiden, Megaman, and Bionic Commando..... with a touch of Batman.
Your colors are off; hot-pink was supposed to be blue. (It's probably one of those cable/conversion issues. ... And the 80's had crazy colors.)
This game and its OST are in my DNA. Glad you enjoyed it.
The music in this game is awesome! I hope you get the last boss next time :)
Subscribed today, i really like this channel
My favorite game. I passed it in 1995 for the first time. One of the best games of the time. This is the first time I've ever seen a girl play this game.😍😍😍👍 My respects.👌
Saw your comment on avgn episode, great content, new sub.
I’m glad you found me! Thanks so much.
"I don't know what that is but I'm gonna grab it" that's me in pretty much every game ever
Sometimes it works out, and sometimes it doesn't, but hey! It's a strategy! ;)
Huh, just found you through the comments on the latest AVGN video. Cool videos, I subscribed
I'm very glad you found me! Thanks for watching :)
Another gem is this channel. I never really liked let's plays but this has no greed and reviews games I'm very fond of! Keep up the good work but don't work more than you should, remember to take breaks. Anyways I wish you good luck, it would be really cool to see your channel go viral.
Thanks so much for the kind words! :)
Shadow of the Ninja is very good. It's another gem from Natsume who did Shatterhand and Power Blade, which you mentioned in the video. Been watching these and other videos at work lately. My boss doesn't even care as long as the work gets done :)
Sounds like you have a very cool boss :) Thanks for watching!
Great video, I might have to get this game.
Great gaming Erin, I was rooting for you on the final boss. Did you ever beat it?? I'll check later to see, it's really late and I've gotta get some sleep.
Wow. I'm surprised I've never heard of this game before. It looks really good.
I can't believe I've never heard of this game. I've got to check this out tonight.
This is like contra meets ninja gaiden! Tough game. No need to justify quitting. You do you!
Yeah finally a new video. And great as always!
Pink was in fact mostly worn by men historically, I love me some pink and this awesome playthrough!
U have a great soothing gaming voice for these vids!
My favorite game on nes .. I played 22 years ago. I completed this game that time
Game actually reminds me of a cross between Contra and Mega Man. Looks really awesome. Will definitely keep a look out for it
I love your vids Erin, keep up the good work. Could we see some TurboGraphix 16 games? This Shadow of the Ninja game looks hard, but super fun.
Pink's awesome along with orange, they're so warm and fluffy and remind me of life.
Another great video Erin! Looks like a great hidden gem with your typical "NES hard" shenanigans, gotta love those. Another great NES hidden gem in similar style is "Shatterhand". You probably know it, if not, maybe check that out some day...

There’s not nearly enough hot pink in modern gaming. Thanks for always kickin’ it old school, Erin!
Hi, found you on UA-cam while falling down the rabbit hole...love your videos...subscribed and keep it going!!! Also, those glasses are cute
lol, my friend had this title, and would play this quite a bit when I visited. I never saw it before or since.
This and Abadox were some of my favorite games on the NES. I still play SotN on the 3DS virtual console. Unfortunatly the only way to play Abadox is on the NES or an emulator.

I totally didn’t know that about picking up the same weapon 3 times in a row. Thanks for the info!
My second favorite NES game. Greetings from Argentina
Love to watch you play....
The most gentle rage...
Omg I used own this game! It’s very amazing!! I miss those days!
Such an excellent game, one I didn't know existed until fairly recently! I've never been able to beat it either though, hard as hell!
I like how you always introduce me to games i never knew about, like this and the Batman game on Game Boy and the Felix the cat game,i wonder what's next

loves these old games
18:49 "Fuck"
18:55 "We did it"
19:00 "I hate that guy"
Hmmm... Patrick got confused by the possible much info behind the words...🤔
Seems like everyone who plays this - ends up loving it.
Such a good game.
Anyone every play the sequel on the Gameboy?
In order to play it, I'd first have to KNOW about its existence LOL ;P
I love this first one though, also known as *KAGE* (Jap ver)
The “sequel” is actually called Ninja Gaiden Shadow. It was supposed to be a Shadow of the Ninja game, but they changed the brand last second for god knows what reason....
this game has the best NES musics, soundtracks and sound effects ever. The other one is Shatterhand
"It's like a never ending fountain of fireball bullshit! Godammit!" 😅
Ninjas, spaceships, mega evil villain all what you need for an late 80's and early 90's game :v
You totally need to review this game with James. That would be a great episode.
Erin got the ninja spirit
This was my childhood game as you can see from my profile. I managed to finish it, when the final boss is at half hralth, his speed increases. I hope you manage to finish it one day.
They should port this to the Switch. Awesome game!
That would be rad!
Yeah new erin plays! Haven't played this game in forever. Love all your videos! Review Abadox for nes pleease 😉
Thanks so much! And I don't know much about Abadox, but I'll check it out :)
Erin Plays that would be awesome! Pretty much a mash of gradius silver surfer and contra
I've never played this one. I did play the GameBoy version though... Shadow of the Ninja Gaiden... or Ninja Gaiden Shadow as it's really called.
Ninja Gaiden Shadow? That sounds totally 100% legit. I'll have to look it up!
oh yeah..they really confused us with the title of the gameboy game. it was probably a commercial decision to call it -NINJA GAIDEN shadow- . you may know that ninja gaiden was called shadow warriors in europe. and then they named the gameboy game also shadow warriors in europe. they even used the same cover. ...it took me years to find out that the real "father" of the gameboy game was SHADOW OF THE NINJA and not ninja gaiden.
Sooo close Erin! Realy hoped you would try once more, you an do this! :)
One day I will try this again, I just didn't have it in me!
Just here because I seen Thanos. That is all.
I’m pretty sure that Power Blade was also developed by Natsume (I know it was published by Taito, makers of such classics as Space Invaders and Bubble Bobble), which would explain why Stage 4-1 is so Power Blade-y......
Man, I completely forgot the great music in that game!
Lol, you seem like the Anti-"PewDiePie", very relaxed and normal playing games, not trying to affect a "personality" or anything. I hate that kind of crap, and it seems very prevalent among gaming UA-camrs (or hell, UA-camrs in general.) Subbed.
Haha, thank you! My approach is just to be genuine and play some games. Glad you like my channel!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
I love this game.
Some sugestions from me:
Mitsume ga Tooru
Kyatto Ninden Teyandee
I remember when hold attack button, repeatedly pressing jump button(if you have turbo button just hold both) you can do special lightning strike attack that can kill all enemy but take half of your life point.
I totally didn't know that until like a month ago when reading through an old Nintendo Power issue. I can't believe I got to the end of the game and never figured it out XD
@@ErinPlays It's okay tho, we play game for fun. 🤗
game looks cool i wouldplay it and thanks for showing us this hidden gem
Don't know if you've played it yet but I think you'd really like Strider on MegaDrive/Genesis. It's difficult at first but once you know the levels it is a blast! Can finish it in like 20 minutes when you're familiar with it :)

I like your videos as they stand so subscribed! But if Game Sack and SupaPixelGirl recommend you that's even better! Game Sack is probably my favorite channel but Becca is amusing as hell so it's a tough call. Keep up the great work, all of you!
WHOOOOOOOOOO U FOUND IT! I REFER THIS GEM TO EVERYONE THAT I CAN!
This game is awesome. One of my favs. Try kabuki quantum warrior. That’s also a sleeper hit.
Yes, it's great. And I actually picked up Kabuki Quantum Warrior a few months back and I've been meaning to try it. Thanks for watching!
This game actually looks cool, very much like Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi, and LOL @ the multiple guys killing themselves
"IT'S NOT A LAUGHING MATTER... PLANE!!!" LOL
😁 you're the best! The absolute best!!
I love this game, even though when I was a kid I wussed out and used the invincibility code.
I couldn't stand the hookshot, though. The really long sword (if you collect multiples it gets longer) is so much faster.
