  • It's not tennis, nor is it racquetball, and no, we're not talking about the vegetable either. The sport of squash is perhaps one of the most international sports around, with federations in 183 countries, despite a lower profile than sports like basketball, baseball or soccer. Just as the University is becoming more globally diverse, the squash team mirrors that trend, with players coming from England, India, China, Japan, Mexico and Canada, as well as from throughout the United States.
The tradition of squash at the University of Rochester has been one of distinction. Under the direction of head coach Martin Heath, Rochester's team has risen in the ranks as high as third in the nation, rivaling dominant teams in the Ivy League such as Harvard, Yale and Princeton.
The fast pace of the games, played in the tight confines of a walled court, make for a thrilling spectacle during a long rally for the crowds that gather at the Lyman Racquet Center at the University of Rochester. This inside look at the team follows one of those contests, with the fifth ranked Yellow Jackets going up against the seventh ranked Princeton team that has been one of their most fierce rivals over the last several years.
