So glad you mentioned about washing the fabrics beforehand, because in this case, it would be important that no shrinkage occurs to leave the inside larger or smaller than the outside. Great pattern, thank you!
Lovely, straightforward tutorial. One thing - the 1:3 ratio should not include your seam allowance (if you start with fabric that's 1:3 and then take an inch each off the length and width for the seams, the piece you're forming the bag from is no longer 1:3).
If the seam allowance is the same all round then that will even out though, won’t it? Half inch seams on each end and each side will be one inch shorter on both the length and the width so should still be 1:3.
The dimensions aren't coming out right because the FINISHED size, not the CUTTING size needs to be a 3 to 1 ratio. When you cut you have to add the seam allowance to the measurements. For 12 x 36 finished size, with 1/2 inch seam allowance should be 13 x 37 cut size.
I'm not sure. It's been so long since I made these that I honestly don't remember the dimensions. But if you come up with a solution please do share it so that others can benefit from it too 😉
The reason why it didn’t fit was in the very first comment. It is because of cutting the exact 1:3 ratio, instead of saying, I need 12x 36, and want 1/2” seam allowances, so cutting 13”x37” and sewing 1/2” all around would give you the finished 12x36 that will make it work.

You're welcome! I, like many, learned about washing fabrics ahead of time when sewing the hard way 🙃
I love your reversible design! I think that the 1:3 ratio works better in centimeters than inches.
Thanks for the tip! I'll try working with cm next time.
Great instructions! Thank you!
Quite welcome!

Yes. It definitely will.

OMGoodness - Thank you for this!
Thank you. ❤
So welcome 😉
The 1:3 ratio will only work if you then add your seam allowance.
Yes. A few people have reached out and told me that. I appreciate you taking the time to do the same.
Wouldn’t making it a 34 inch piece fix the gap?
