    Thank you for the wonderful easy recipe that even I can do! Can't wait to try it! I found an easier way to clean dishes without getting the dishwater dirty (or way less dirty) and using much less water and soap! Start with your dirty dishes NOT in the sink, but on the counter. Clean your sink, this will be your rinsing area. Put your small amount of soapy water again, NOT in the sink, but in a bowl or small bucket on the countertop next to the sink. I use a scrubbie sponge, so you soak that in the soapy water, squeeze it out, grab a dish, soap and scrub, toss the scrubbie back into the clean soapy water. Place the now clean, but soapy, dish in the sink. Once you have a sink full of clean but still soapy dishes, rinse them all at once and and put it in the rack! Start again if needed.

    I love your video and want to make my own dish soap due to my coconut allergy and sensitivity to all fragrances, including essential oils. However, I am allergic to coconut (Ivory has sodium cocoate which is made by combining a mixture of fatty acid salts derived by reacting coconut oil with sodium hydroxide) as well as Ivory's signature fragrance that they put in their bar soap. Any suggestions on how to find a bar soap (or soap flakes) that does not contain coconut, coconut derivatives, and fragrance? Unfortunately, coconut and its derivatives are in almost everything that is made.

    • @sustainableslowliving
      @sustainableslowliving 29 днів тому

      The two bar soaps that I use that are commercially available have coconut in them. I would find a local soap maker and work with them to get a bar that you can use. It's been years since I've made my own bars but I didn't use any coconut products when I did. Alternatively, you can research a bit and make your own bars. It's not a hard process. Just one that requires mindfulness because of the lye. Cold process soap needs time to cure. But hot process can be used right away. It doesn't have a long shelf life like cold process soap does. So very few people make it to sell. But I sold it. The shelf life is suitable for those who use their soap. Just not for those who want it to sit pretty in their bathroom. It would work well for your purposes.

    I make my own powdered laundry soap. I've checked out lots of channels where they make laundry soap/detergent. Some say you don't need baking soda if you use washing soda because washing soda is baking soda. But I use both. I super finely grate a 5 oz. bar of plant-based soap.....it's very , very hard soap. I can't stand the smell of Fels Naptha or Zote....so I never use those. My home made laundry soap works great for us. Has never harmed our washing machine. Some people claim home made soaps will hurt the machine. My machine is nearly 10 years old. One thing I'd like to recommend.....leave your washing machine door or lid OPEN after you've finished doing laundry. It's damp in there & needs to dry out thoroughly. I strongly suspect that people who complain about their laundry not smelling good is because they might have mold inside their machine from always closing the lid/door. Also, a lot of people use WAY too much detergent. That causes all sorts of problems. A couple tablespoons is plenty for a large load, believe it or not.

    • @sustainableslowliving
      @sustainableslowliving Місяць тому

      I believe the issue with handmade laundry powder hurting machines relates to new machines. Not sure what the details are. I've never had trouble either. And, yes, I leave my lid open too. The machine needs to air out. Thanks for sharing!

      @@sustainableslowliving I apologize. I should have made it clearer. I'm saying I've used home made laundry soap a large part of the nearly 10 years I've had this machine. That tells me it hasn't hurt it. 😊It has stood the test of time. 😁👕👖🧦🩲🩴👚🧦🧤

      @@patwagner9308 Thank you for clarifying. I did understand though. Maybe I was unclear. I hear people have problems with their machines. I often wonder why that is the buzz. I don't have any personal experience with it because I prefer old machines. So I've always had one. I appreciate hearing your experience. I suspect there are many who have had the same. And if they all spoke up it would drown out the negative reports. It could be that the negative reports are more closely related to the decline in production quality over the years. I think it is more likely to have trouble with machines in general. And it gets blamed on the homemade detergent.

FYI I have noticed most "cheaper" peanut Butters have the Xylitol in it. Better brands & naturals do not have Xylitol in them, *** BUT**** ALWAYS check the labels.

    Use some flour and nutmeg, ever eat in levenworth, it's not just dredged in oil. Flour keeps it together and a little bit of a shake of nutmeg makes it delicious. Plus you don't have to let the oil cover almost the whole pancake. You like oil more than taste great, but you can get same result with half the oil and some better taste

I'm not sure when or where the preparations for the dish changed. But there is definitely no flour and they are fried in a lot of oil. Here they are greasy. They are often made at fairs where they are actually prepared in a deep fryer.

    Thank you! I have a very simple solution to the fragrance. I use TRUE LEMON powder packets. TRUE LEMON is just the dehydrated powdered form of real lemons. They also make this product in orange scent if you prefer that. When I make my homemade detergent (minus any bar soap), I add a couple packets of true lemon for the fragrance and this works out well for me. It doesn't add a lot of scent but it makes my laundry smell CLEAN... which is my purpose. I NEVER use shredded bar soap in any of my laundry detergents because it will result in dingy clothes after some time and can harm your washing machine because it builds up on the clothes and the machine over time.

    The dimensions aren't coming out right because the FINISHED size, not the CUTTING size needs to be a 3 to 1 ratio. When you cut you have to add the seam allowance to the measurements. For 12 x 36 finished size, with 1/2 inch seam allowance should be 13 x 37 cut size.

    Why can't vinegar be the only product to wash dishes with? You can also put that liquid soap in a foaming soap dispenser and extend its longevity.

    • @sustainableslowliving
      @sustainableslowliving 3 місяці тому

      I'm not sure that vinegar would work well alone. It's worth a try if you care to give it a shot. And, unfortunately, this soap would not work in a dispenser. It is not pump friendly. But if you go through the process of making a saponified liquid soap a dispenser would definitely extend it's lifespan.

    • @kricketkitty
      @kricketkitty 3 місяці тому

      Hi there, thank you for your reply. I've been experimenting with vinegar alone, dishes in a tub of hot water, and it works wonderfully. Cold water doesn't work as well. Using vinegar as the only cleaning product in my home, I reached the point of asking why can't it be the ONLY product for dishes, AND laundry too? So the mission has begun. I've switched to using it for dishes, and now laundry. I was wondering your thoughts on why it couldn't be used for all of the above, to simplify all cleaning departments : ) Some people add salt to the vinegar, but I'm not sure why. For hand soap, I'd been using the foaming dispenser with Dr. Bronners liquid soap, 3 capfuls then filled with water. Works great, lasts forever. But at $50/gallon, wanted to find a more economical option. My homemade liquid soap efforts (now for hands only) haven't gone so well with the foaming dispenser as the soap congeals and I've not been able to get a good consistency. I may just stick with Bronners for now, as I'm happy with all the time and money saved in all the other areas. Really wanted to eliminate all the vinegar bottles having to go to recycling and tried making my own, but that failed. I'm also experimenting with organic ethanol alcohol as a hand sanitizer spray instead of foaming soap...I love everything about it, it's got a super fresh uplifting energy about it, very effective and doubles as a produce wash better than vinegar.@@sustainableslowliving

      The reason why it didn’t fit was in the very first comment. It is because of cutting the exact 1:3 ratio, instead of saying, I need 12x 36, and want 1/2” seam allowances, so cutting 13”x37” and sewing 1/2” all around would give you the finished 12x36 that will make it work.
