Hiked it Saturday with a friend. Your video and a local's suggestion of the Upper La Barge Box Canyon made it our next big day hike. We met the local on our Thursday Weaver's Needle hike. We saw maybe 10 hikers all day Saturday. None in the box canyon. Found the some-what-a-trail cairn marked path diagonally up to the cave on our way back from going further up the Box, which I recommend, while you're there. Keep vlogging your hikes and you'll catch Jerry's numbers before you know it! I give you both Thumbs Ups.
Great video of Moonjuice and that other guy...what was his name again??????? Jerry something.......Oh yeah it was Jerry Arizona. Hope to see more of you guys collaborating together. It was pretty comical to say the least. Got to watch out for those darn cactus man. They'll reach out and get ya.
Looked like a fun hike! I didn't know that Saguaros were learning to jump at people like the Chollas. And good on you, Breven, to help that Jerry fellow get some UA-cam exposure. :)
Good to run into you guys out there on Sunday. I was looking to see if there were any videos showing the route up to the cave the night before we headed out and was a little surprised that there were no good videos up for this hike. I guess that we just went a week too early.. We found that there actually is a route that isn't a complete bushwhack (I definitely wouldn't call it a trail) up to the cave if you continue up Red Tanks trail a ways to the east as it climbs up and away from the creek, which you then traverse across the hillside heading west back towards the cave entrance. We elected to do this hike as a loop, continuing west on Red Tanks trail past Whiskey Springs and then connecting to the other side of Lost Dutchman trail and finally over to Bluff Springs to finish out the day. This was a bad call as Red Tanks trail is severely washed out and overgrown with catclaw between Whiskey Springs and Lost Dutchman trails. Fighting through the catclaw added some extra adventure to our trip.. Still, it was a great day for a big hike in the Superstitions, so much flowing water out there right now!
Ohhhh, we thought there might be more of a trail if we kept heading that way. We just decided to make a beeline for the cave and start climbing. It worked, but it was definitely sketchy! Not to mention the killer Saguaro's jumping out of nowhere.
That's SUPER cool. I'd love to find a cave like that. I've not seen many (any?) down south here by the border. I'm pretty sure they're here. Don't worry about the cactus, I've had my run ins with a few myself! I carry tweezers, and gorilla tape in my bag to help with the needles! We frequently find mines, some of them are short tunnels straight in... kind of interesting to see... Others are open stopes. I wish I had more footage of those, they're really interesting. Keep making the awesome videos!
I have hiked that area many times. Beautifully rugged. Lots of water this time of year, but not so much in the Summer, which in Arizona is from early March to late October😉🙃🌵
Its a good time to be out there Kevin, plenty of water flowing through La Barge Canyon (all the large canyons actually). I'm heading out in the a.m. for 4 days.... :)
@@MoonJuiceHikes I've heard! I've been chomping at the bit to get out there because it's one of the few times you can do west supes backpacking without an insane water carry. Happy trails and, as always, stay safe out in those mountains!
Nice video. I'm so jealous! And you're now traveling with your own film crew. Cool. BTW, I feel for your buddy who walked into the cactus. Looks like something I would do. 🙃 - Slapshot
Lol, not exactly Tony! Jerry’s a cinematic video pro, makes his own very popular videos. I have a GoPro and that’s it. Also, I head butted that cactus - Jerry provided the medical attention. 🏥
@@MoonJuiceHikes You hit the cactus?! Next thing you know you'll be going down the trail the wrong way - no wait. That's me. I'm the only one doing that.
Met you and Jerry last Saturday. We were the guys next to the subie near the shitters. Met you one other time in 2022 in west fork. So much water out in the supes right now.
I am going to head out solo to this spot on Friday! Never done this trail. Is the overgrowth really bad, or will I be good long sleeves and pants? Was this hike before or after the rain we got last week? I day hiked from first water to lower la barge box canyon on Saturday morning, and the water was crazy! Hoping to not need to pack so much water this Friday! Great video. You guys are great
Hey Shawn, if you are going this Friday I can 100% promise you with certainty that you will find good water in La Barge creek. There’s a second campsite further up the canyon, then another on top…(between you and me)
Oh sweet. I am wanting to hike down red tanks the next day, but I don’t think I’ll have enough time. Is that spot somewhere near the junction with trail 111 when you come up out of upper la barge canyon canyon?
@@shawnnimmer8170 that’s it. Upper La Barge Box is the section of canyon between the intersections of #238 and #111 on the Red Tanks trail. Cave is on the north side of the canyon. It’s on the paper Green Trails map, and AllTrails too.
I watch both of your videos. Great to see you both in one together. As a fellow Phoenician how cold did it get the night you guys camped out there, and was a permit required? Thanks.
Yes please, when Jerry recovers, more of you.
Good times. And we actually got some backpacking in on this backpacking trip.
😆I do prefer to backpack on backpacking trips
Hey was looking for you on Twitter
Hey, it's Jerry 👍, 😆, you guys are hilarious together.
Love me some Jerry and Tina 💕
Hi MoonJuice!!! It’s good to see you filming again. And I love the Superstitions, too! I hope you and Jerry Arizona hike together more.
Syd here, sending a hard hat for your next hike !!! Safe travels...
Too little, too late Syd!
You seem like such a good dude. Upbeat and encouraging. Its one of things that makes your videos really enjoyable to watch.
