Did this a week ago. Character builder - this is by no means easy. Not a hike, but a rock scramble. For me, it was an exercise in walling off my fear of heights. Lungs and legs, now well conditioned by three months of desert hiking, did fine. This was very much a “mind over matter” victory.
Well done... we go as far as the saddle above the draw. Maybe one day to the Flatiron. 🤞Thank you for sharing this. Very much appreciated. Be well and travel safe.
Just did this route yesterday. Carried on after reaching the top and traversed over to gold canyon via the superstition ridgeline trail (barely discernable). 11 miles from start to finish. That climb up to flatiron is NO JOKE. I think it might be smart to wear a helmet to guard against rock fall and the real chance of taking a fall. Thanks for the video. I’m from MN too!
Enjoyed watching the hike. This is definitely one I would like to do. I have a huge list of AZ hikes I would like to do. When you're on top, why not explore more. I know I would too. Take care!
Perfect time of the year to hit the desert & escape the 🥶. I'll be hitting daytona Beach in Feb & hope to hit Arizona either this fall or 2024. Thanks for sharing!
Ok, this is now on my bucket list. I agree--mark the trail. If I'm going to work that hard to get up the trail, the least they can do is mark it. I was here in October just after completing Humphreys Peak further North. We did the ghost towns and loved it. Then we climbed to Wave Cave in the Superstitions but that was very mild compared to this. Like you, I'm from a cold and dreary place in the Winter, so I might just be in Phoenix this February. Thanks for another great video.
We found our way, but it was very easy to get off trail. It’s mostly rock. So, we didn’t make much of an impact. The Wave is on my list too! I hope to get there this year. Where do you call home?
I live in MN too (Prior Lake) and I am going to Arizona next month, checking out places to hike. This looks fun, definitely going to do it. Thanks for the great video.
@robpelton I did do this hike on my trip to Arizona, I had a great time. I did it on a Saturday and it was pretty busy but I had seen people in multiple videos saying the trail was hard to follow so I wanted to go when I knew there'd be other hikers on the trail. I made it to the top without a lot of difficulty but going down was a beast. I had done Picacho Peak 2 days prior and had also done Tom's Thumb, Pinnacle Peak, Camelback and Piestewa peak (twice) that week and I had developed some knee pain that only acted up on declines, and it was really hurting on the way down from Flatiron. Other than that I loved it, when I got back to the car I drove across the highway and ate a nice steak dinner at the ghost town saloon.
Hey rob…..just letting you know that I don’t seem to get notifications of your videos anymore. I had to look and see why I hadn’t seen anything new come out and I realized I didn’t get the notifications. Hopefully I’m the only one, but thought I’d let you know.
What’s crazy is this is where I grew up and still live near by, I have taken this place for granted my whole life

Wow. Brave man! So glad you got it done. That’s an accomplishment. Congrats!

Glad you enjoyed it!
TY, I just finished this hike today. It's a challenge, not super well marked. I got lost a few times...
It can get tricky out there for sure.
The dessert has such a unique beauty that is just enchanting in so many ways. Great video sir!
I agree. It’s just so different from my home state and the hiking I normally do. I just love it. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely beautiful! reminds me of like 75% of the mountain trails here in Maine! lots of rock scrambles and rough footing. Thank you for sharing!
I love Maine. I’d love to spend more time there. Thanks for watching!
Such a serene and peaceful hike my friend. Shots are outstanding here! Absolutely beautiful work 🔥🔥
And challenging! Thank you for watching. Cheers.
Glad your back at it. I like day hikes. Beautiful scenery.

Very cool! I can see some falling rock being an issue. There were some peeps struggling and slipping. Where in MN?
@@robpelton prior lake. South metro. You?
Ha! That’s where my family lives. I’m South Mpls. Small world!

It’s an amazing place! Definitely worth a stop. Thanks for watching!
Holy crap!!! It's a new Rob Pelton video!!!!! Sweet trail, don't know if I would be able to do that one.
Woo! Don’t know until you try my man. Thanks for watching!
@@robpelton My knees were screaming on that one, especially the decent!!!

I'm from Delaware. It's not terribly cold but it is damp and dark (I haven't seen the sun since October).

Thanks!
Are you wearing man capris? Reminds me a little of the Badlands. Great video brother!
Yes I am!
@@robpelton Noice!
Quite true; the trail is not marked well at all.
No kidding!
It's a lot easier to fall down....then up...downhills are joint busters !
You’re not wrong!

Nicely done Rob. Amazing scenery. I bet that sun feels nice this time of year!! Any wildlife sightings? Cheers.
Oh yes. Getting out of the cold is so nice this time of year. However, I still have winter camping to do! Thanks for watching.
I live at the base of this mountain. There's deer and javelin, and I've seen a couple bobcats.
Great video. Guess you gave up on your Inca Trail videos? 😩
Thanks! Oh no. Editing is underway. There’s so much footage!
I was home, and you didn’t call me?!?
Where’s home??
@@robpelton Tucson
do you recommend hiking boots for this hike? Just curious! thank you!
The added support & grip would be good to have. However, I just wore my trail runners and I was fine. Thanks for watching!
