    I love foldables because they are so versatile and convenient. I used to have a tablet for reading comics and manga, but it was too bulky and I hardly ever used it. It just sat in my bag, acting as a huge powerbank. But with a foldable, I can enjoy the big screen when I want to read, and then fold it up when I'm done. It's always there, ready to use, and it fits in my pocket. Foldables are the best thing ever for comic and manga fans like me.

I had to fold for and I guess a piece of dirt got under the inside screen somehow piece of dust and it completely cracked the inside screen and broke it Is it a similar screen setup to where that could happen and I wasn't the only one that had that happen in their phones

    All in all a very interesting review but one thing i simply cant agree with is 9:18. Sure its nice to be able to switch between apps in one tap BUT nothing beats just straight up sizing the app to your liking. I can play hearthstone and have a small floating youtube or whatsapp on my fold, i dont want to switch between them all the time, i want hearthsone to be fullscreen and the secondary app to be a resizable window. The one+ open is an amazing device but as someone whos been daily driving a samsung folable for 3y now, the software may still be a dealbreaker. What's more important is typical maximum brightness under manual mode and HBM under auto mode which is sustained and is a 100% window size.

    • @Terrorbrot
      @Terrorbrot 8 місяців тому

      I'll say it again, if you buy a phone like this you NEED Insurance. For a multitude of reasons I won't all go into here but mainly for your own sleep. And in that case those dead pixels aren't really a big concern. Anyone buying a foldable just gambling on warranty and good luck is inevitably going to be disappointed. However a properly insured fold is not only cheaper than for example staying on the newest iphone, it also provides you with incredible amounts of productivity (and fun)

      @@Terrorbrot By the time you pay insurance which is $200 or more and deductible of another $200 or more, you're over $2k for a worthless phone when time comes to trade in. Even OnePlus doesn't offer anything on their own phones. They're trash.

    • @Terrorbrot
      @Terrorbrot 8 місяців тому

      @@IllIIllllIlIlIll insurance may be 200-300€ over the years but it keeps your fold from loosing value, honestly I'm too tired to go into the very details but foldables don't work like slabs in that regard, because they can't simply be repaired or replaced by a refurbished device. Also the fold 5 is barely 1200€ here wich is the price every fold has dropped to after 3 months and wich it will probably stay at until the next gen comes out. Buying foldables at retail price is a waste of money and so is not getting them insured. Also I'd never do it with the manufacturer because they know best wich problems their devices have, the one me and my friends use simply sends whatever fold they have on stock rn, wich means you get an almost guaranteed "free" (130€) upgrade if you have something as rare as maybe a fold 2/3 (and the pixel open in a few years probably). They can't scam you out of your money as easily because these don't loose value with time like normal phones *. My fold 2 is still technically valued at 800€ because there are like 2/3 offers in the whole of Germany.
      * edit: unless they have signs of wear at wich point they become basically unsellable

    So, does it have a native desktop mode
    My biggest question is for $1,800. Can it at least do a desktop mode like Samsung and Huawei? Other than that, if it's only $18 because it folds, it is really worthless. For over $2,000 after taxes, I expected to get a computer, a tablet, a cell phone, a good camera, for that price. If we're missing out on one single feature, aka desk top mode, it is not worth anything. Considering technically foldable phones are more fragile. in real world practice.
    So, does it have a native desktop mode?

      As someone whos on a fold for over 3y now, I've not once actually used Samsung Dex a single time xD.
      Dont get me wrong I fully agree that it's a nice thing to have, but with a phone that's a tablet anyways, you don't really need a mobile desktop anymore. What's 100000x more important is how well multitasking works. For example I don't only want to switch between apps real fast, I also want to Splitscreen them properly, something the OnePlus open can't seem to do at all right now. That's the deal-breaker for me ATM.

      @DNKI  8 місяців тому +2

      I thought the same thing at first, but making a foldable thicker is a proposition that requires more consideration than doing it on a normal smartphone. I'd rather them scale back the cameras than have it be dummy thick closed

    • @Terrorbrot
      @Terrorbrot 8 місяців тому

      Imagine people complaining about the phone becoming thinner 😂😂
      Tech just isn't at a point where cameras are 1mm thin, so until then why not just let them fucking experiment? I find the approach of putting all the camera hardware in the hump really smart and probably the direction we'll be heading for the next year's.
      Just look at the Huawei mate X2, how are they supposed to put a camera into like half a centimetre of phone. This is the only sensible approach.

    OnePlus has been doing shockingly good in the lower end and the midrange segment for the price, many of those devices being offered for free. They have just been getting lots of flak at the flagship level due to the lack of software support and integrations. I hope this incentivizes them to do better with software support, continue developing as they are in the midrange and getting consumers back on board with their philosophy.

      No they'll be mad in about 5y when people are already using their phone for everything from gaming to work but iPhones are still seen as social media and text messaging machines. The open is the first (almost) no-compromise foldable so I'd not surprised if it helps the tech as a whole take over the market. Meanwhile apple is busy limiting how their customers are allowed to use their devices, because opening up 2 apps side by side could overwhelm their poor little brains.

    I think people are exaggerating this phone by a mile. The oppo find n2 came out last year and had pen support. That phone started at $1500. What did they change so much to justify the extra $200? All in all I'm happy it's going to make Samsung step their game up. Samsung has been lazy since the z fold 3.

    The hinge is rated for all those folds, sadly the display is not, there are already reports of dead pixels in the middle area where it folds, less than a month after use 😬 the fact that you can find a Fold 5 for cheaper than this is kinda cringe coming from the "flagship killer" that I once knew, this coming from a OnePlus 8 Pro owner that is writing this using that 3 year old phone and still loving it, but for the value, knowing it rivals an S22 or 23 Ultra for about half their price was the reason I mafe my purchase, was hoping for a promising foldable from them but it's already showing it's too risky for too much, maybe next year 🥺
