The Wing was never a flagship nor was it supposed to be. It was LG experimenting. They wanted to see if what people really wanted was flagship specs or if flagship build quality with a mid tier processor was enough. They did it both with this phone and the Velvet. Unfortunately it didn't work out at all well. And at the same time the Pixel 5 tried to and also failed. People don't mind budget specs on a budget device. No one wants to pay a premium price for a mid tier phone with high quality build.
LG's best device is still the v60.

Gotta give them props for also continuing to update the wing even after they closed their mobile division, though.

LG V10 and V20 were some of the best phones I ever owned. Removable batteries, expandable storage, high-end materials, durable build, and useful features. Never afraid to innovate. V20 did the camera cut out before the other brands hopped on.
Software wasn't too bloated either. They went out with a bang with that LG Wing, but it flew too far from the Apple...

I loved LG phones. The V60 was an incredible flagship phone and the Wing was a very creative high end phone. Unfortunately, the popular UA-cam reviewers were always dogging LG's phones. They are partially responsible for LG ending their cellular division. Of course, none of them would ever own up to having a hand in its demise. It's still amazing to me that they seem to be oblivious to the fact that when you tell your 10 plus million subscribers that you wouldn't buy something, it's pretty much a death sentence. Thank you for doing this video.

I had the lg wing as my daily up until July of this year. I've rebuilt it twice when I broke it I loved the phone that much! The screen was amazing, the dual screen functionality was something I used literally daily. It's something that you have to work into a routine but once you do it is so much more productive. The battery life was impressive the camera was just as good as others. I still have it and I have debated rebuilding it again so I can just have it as a desk phone since I use the 23 ultra now.

I will say, the popup camera isnt all that bad when implemented correctly. I would assume some cost cutting was made when developing this device due to the innate costs associated with the flipping screen, but other phones with the popup camera (such as the Oneplus 7 Pro) have been known for their popup camera reliability. Its was more that having the camera built directly into the screen allows for faster face unlocking and reduction of overall production costs that eventually drove many manufacurers away from the design.

That's totally right. I have never had a problem with mine on the Poco F2 Pro. It doesn't take up any space on the display, doesn't scratch and works perfectly fine after over three years now. After this experience I simply cannot buy a phone with a whole punch or an island so I am waiting for more companies to implement the under the display camera.

I will tell you.. I DID buy an LG Wing when they first launched, and one thing that made me part ways with it earlier than I should have was the accelerometer in the phone was crazy out of whack with having the flipping screen. It would just randomly rotate orientations at the slightest turns and bumps (like using it for GPS on your car dash) and would not just go back to normal easily.

I've been using it as my mobile vlogging gear, and it's buttery smooth. And that built-in secondary screen at the bottom? That's where the gimbal's manual mode comes in handy.

When I was shopping around for a replacement for my Hauwei Mate 9 (it was stuck on android 9 with no updates coming) and not being rich I was looking for a decent phone that was going to at least get android 13. I also like phones with a gimmick so that brought me to LG's last forage into the mobile phone market with the V60, Velvet, and the Wing. With all 3 having some kind of gimmick (v60/velvet has the screen add-on and well you know the Wing's gimmick) I was hard pressed to make a determination on which 1 I would get. After alot of thought I went with the v60 with the extra screen add-on. It had the better specs (I was trying to get the 256gb model but that's way expensive!) and pretty decently price out of the 3. Looking back I'm happy with my purchase but I still think the LG Wing would have been a really good conversation piece!

I've had this phone for a year now after switching from an iphone and I've been loving it! Personally I haven't noticed the weight issue, I feel very comfortable just holding it from the bottom screen. Its really great that LG is still supporting us which means I'll be able to hang on to this phone for a little while longer. My one issue that I have with the phone is that it's kinda ridiculous that the bottom screen isn't utilized in gaming more, I wish it could be used as a gamepad to get your thumbs off the screen. There is a third party app called SoftWing that is suppose to do it but the last LG update broke it unfortunatly and I think the creator abandoned the project.

The LG V40 was the best phone i ever owned. I switched over from samsung and never looked back. I currently have the LG Wing i like it but it big and cumbersome. Its very slippery and always falls down because of the heavy weight which ended up cracking every glass on the phone front and back. It doesnt have headphone jack and no quad dac. However the camera is still in my opinion the best camera on any phone even till this day. The manual mode blows other phones out of the water. I will hold on to the wing for as long as possible and after it dies i will go on ebay and buy a V50 for about $100 because it still has more features then the latest Iphone. P.S. i will now subcribe to your channel for such a great video.

This was my first modern android phone coming from a diehard apple fan boy. I absolutely loved this device. It was held back by LG failing in the mobile industry. It released with android 10 while 11 was out for several months. And every update took roughly 6-8 months before it came to us. The software is still pretty bad to this day (I use it as a backup because its such cool hardware). But I still loved this phone when I got it after its launch. I think it will hold a very special place in my heart as the most realistic dual screen device for this era or modern smartphones. Even as a lover of foldables, the LG Wing was just so cool. I would get comments all the time about how unique it was and how they wanted to get one because it was so different. I also ADORED the built-in gimbal mode thanks to its t shaped design. If LG came back with a newer model and actually updated it in a timely fashion, i would 100% buy it all over again.

The only thing it lacked was a high refresh rate, and the 1440p resolution of it's former flagship predecessor, the G8. The V60 is my favorite phone by far, and actually got some nice software updates from LG the past 2 years, including 8K manual recording!

Other than exceptions like this, smartphone innovation peaked roughly 10 years ago. Ever since then, we've been losing features on our devices year after year.
Several years back, it was comically easy to find a smartphone that had a microSD card slot, headphone jack, removable battery, and even IR blasters too. You could really do whatever you wanted with your phone back then... almost limitless choices for the consumer. Performance has skyrocketed since then, sure... but I'd be hard pressed to find a device that has even half these features nowadays. Powerful tech companies have successfully groomed the general public into believing that removing these features makes our phones "more secure" or that it's necessary for a high IP rating.
Ironically, one of the companies that has now removed most of these features from their devices today, was one of the same companies that proved it was possible to have every feature I mentioned above AND have a high IP rating... Samsung's Galaxy S5. Smartphone history is a perfect example of why free market capitalism doesn't work. Businesses will always gut the consumer to make an extra buck if the rules allow for it. I was pretty bummed out when the news broke out that LG was pulling out of the smartphone market. They were one of the only companies left that was still trying to innovate in the space. I hope that the EU keeps making more pro-consumer electronics laws... maybe, just maybe, we could achieve the same amount of features and choices we used to have.

The V60 and Velvet (as well as the V50) basically did what the Surface Duo did 1st with the added benefit that you could remove the flip screen when not needed. But, back then, I couldn't justify the price of the base V60 or Velvet as compared to an S20... I was using a Moto G6 at the time felt no need to upgrade.

Thanks man, daily driving this LG wing for three years and still going strong.
If anyone is planning to buy it, here are my two cents:-
    1. Screen refresh rate is 60Hz, its okay 90% of the time and feels just nice, you can also fiddle with the settings to make it more crisp and smooth, but if you are switching from a 90hz phone you will feel the difference.
    2. The OLED screen is much better than some of the much higher priced phones and definitely stands out.
    3. I have not faced any issues with performance even when running AAA titles from steam remote play.
    4. Camera is good but not the best, the raw images are very good and can be tailored through third party app or on your PC/Laptop later. Gimble and voice bokeh is a really good feature and works well.
    5. Love the game mode feature, it allows to mark any app as a game and by default mute all games. I use it mostly to mute the in app sounds, so any advertisements and unnecessary/unexpected sound from the app be eliminated without putting your phone on silent.
    6. Most UNEXPECTED feature is it comes with Dex mode, so plug in a monitor and you have a portable laptop/PC gaming and productivity experience.
    7. The phone is well built, I used screen guards initially but its fine without one, since the replacement cost of screen guard/temper glass starts to add up after a few drops.
    8. A case will be wise since the back glass panel will break much more easily and covering it up would be nice.

On the topic of the Audiophile grade headphone jack, does the LG Wing have it? Or what's the last LG phone with that feature? Trying to listen to music with my wired headphones again!

It's funny that the Surface Duo can do everything even better. And it also has durable screens. All the multitasking or even UA-cam with the Video/Livestream playing on top and the comments on the bottom. The Wing was ahead of its time though! Maybe the Duo is too? Also fellow Hololive simp here. (Got Fuwamoco on my Duo as a perfect wallpaper.)

The LG Wing felt like an excellent way to do a multi-screen device. I was sad when they stopped making phones because I felt that, with a couple of years of work, could be THE way to do things, and would have loved to see them continue innovating. I am a bit frustrated by seeing Samsung make basically the same folding phone for 5 years because they only just now started getting some real competition in the US.

Surprisingly it isn't a horrible phone to repair either.

I just watched blue beetle and they destroy one of these in the movie. I really like companies taking steps to make a new form factor, it sucks to see them go, I'm hoping folds and flips make the market fun again.

I LOVED the LG Wing. It was a great conversation piece and when I was on the road I loved streaming content on the widescreen with my gps on the bottom screen. But unfortunately because I worked on cars so much I got so much dirt and grim in-between the screens and screwed up the swivel mechanism.
