I love this review of the old 60gb checha01. I've had a few myself. I have one currently which heats up and needs some attention. When I was a kid this was the model I wanted. I convinced my mom to buy a refurbished one off eBay when I was about 11 or 12 (27 now but I won't be for long time hurries on). I rode a b-line bus with it in my lap and lugged it around the day I got it to get it from my mom's to my dad's place. I also grinded mlg game battles but for mw2, blops, and mw3. I'm surprised you didn't buy a US region console. I'm sure the same console for the US market with the box couldn't cost much more than this one you got from Japan. I've never had the k01 80gb but I wonder how much different the software emulation really is from having the hardware. Of course there's the other issue of 100% backwards compatibility. I'm rambling. Awesome video thank you!!!!!
I know you are shocked by the condition of some of the components, but I sold my PS3, PS4, and Xbox One S with all original parts, including the manual and the wrappers. I kept everything in great condition and even cleaned all the parts before I boxed them up. Even though I never intended to ever sell any of my systems, I like to keep them in great shape.
My cousin had a launch PS3 and one day it stopped working so he bought another one. I bought his old one for $20 and just reset it with a button press and worked fine.
Wish I knew about Safe mode and all that stuff back in the day as well lol. My brother had bought one overseas ( he was in the Army at the time) and sent it home. It was a fat PS3 and worked like a charm until one system update that ended up corrupting something. Games would play fine, but usually after a few minutes of running the screen would start to fill up with purple pixels as if the screen was tearing and eventually crash. Had I known about safe mode I would have tried to reset the system completely, but I didn't and since it was bought from overseas there was no warranty. Left it there to collect dust till my brother came back and I think he got rid of it lol.
22:44 that fan speed is definitely a little too high for the temps, mine sits at 30-35% around those temps and people say that’s too high. Yours might need a delid and repaste.
yeah when i was looking for upgrading my slim ps3 to an ssd i read online that it officially supports 1tb max, but some said you can format a 2tb disk up to 1,5tb and it will work fine, but aint gonna buy a 2tb drive to gamble and get 500 extra gb 😂
I would love to see it get Frankenstein’ed by Computer Booter. Sony have done the Frankensteins before but it was a little bit different from how Computer Booter does it. Booter is based out of Carmichael, California. But You could also try to overclock the RSX if you are brazen enough.
There was no way that I was getting an original PS3 back in the day; didn't have a job yet, and my folks couldn't rationalize the price. But, I eventually got a Slim for Christmas in 2010, and that became my main console. Now a days, I don't use it as much as I used to between buying other consoles and PCs, but I did install a 1TB hard drive and Cobra when Jim Ryan threatened to close the store.
I bought an Xbox 360 recently and it was a bit of a interesting setup. I owned one long ago but had sold it and with all other changes in the Microsoft landscape getting back to one held quite a few surprises.
I still own my 80GB PS3 CFW that i bought if i remember correctly from 2013/2014 its been through tough time like dealing with YLOD for couple years and redo thermal paste because of unexpected overheating but it still holds until today even though i don't get to play it that often anymore, but it is a gem for me that this console been with me since i was in elementary school until I'm in college seven semester
I remember when the first jailbreak usbs started coming out. Then you could make your own. I JB immediately. Then there was cat and mouse with Sony, they started the bans, I bought another ps3 just so i could keep the JB one on a burner ID. All thanks to good ole GeoHot at the time.
I have the PS3 slim I still use it sometimes and I do have hen installed to it so I can run backups of my games and run PS2 games on it when it can't lol
Ah the good old PS3 OG While it had the best backwards compatibility unfortunately it's rigged with issues, man I remember if you buy this way back in Philippines, you would at least have a trip to a place called Greenhills to get it repaired because of overheating
So much luck to you if you are trying to find PS3 controllers with great quality.🤞All the reliable 3rd party PS3 accessories manufacturing companies out of business years ago and Sony refuses to.😶
I still have mine from back then. It was my bedroom Netflix machine after getting something newer for the living room. Although nowadays I don´t have a TV in my bedroom anymore, as I value sleep hygiene more. I´ll never sell it, my GTA V safegame somehow glitched and all cars, even taxis and police cars are upgraded to the max somehow...
I think my PS3 is ready to be replaced. It's like a jet engine taking off, and I have cleaned it out and changed the thermal paste on it at least 3 to 4 times a year for the last 6 or so years. I have nust changed the thermal past last week, and its back to being a jet engine again.
Excellent console. Has tons of features, the original can even play Super Audio 5.1 surround sound music CDs. As well as Movies, photos, Mp3s and can rip music CDs direct to disc connecto Netflix, Amazon Prime & UA-cam. Mines now the core of my entertainment system. 👍

Then he shouts… Hi Austin… and then I realized … ahaaa this guy was already a pro…buuuuuut also realized this channel has something unique in his approach…every video is more relatable and every project is thought in what would be really useful for the average guy. Really think this channel has a bright future.
I just upgraded my old phat ps3 to a 1TB SSD, worked like a charm. Just annoying that it reserves 10% of the storage for the system. Edit: Also bought a copy of ridge racer 7, it's fun. Native 1080p @ 60fps.
I'm pretty sure it was 40gb 60gb and 80gb, and the 60gb was only one with extra USB slot. I had the 80gb and upgraded to 500gb which was largest you could upgrade to.
I did the de-lidding and replaced the paste with thermal grizzly kryonaut extreme and even added some new thermal pads, my fan never seems to go above 30% speed. I say that because it went from a jet where you had to talk loudly around it to is the fan even working. It's so quiet. Lol i can play rage for hours without worry now.
As a PS3 Slim owner, when playing something like GoW 3, it's louder than my PS4 Pro but then it stabilizes for a few mins before being loud again. The PS4 Pro also depends on the game and scene. DoA 6 sometimes after the matches makes my PS4 take off for some reason but most of the time it's quiet-ish.
Yeah I have two 60 gig PS3 and hands down you need to repaste that sucker asap and maybe replace the pads with modern efficient ones. I didn't get heavy into modding but depending on Revision, there's slightly more efficient PSU and fan you can swap out. There's 7 blade and 9 blade fan but IMO the 7 blade is the one to have cause it runs bit more efficient and blades have more surface area to move air. PSU has a version that doesn't get as hot
blast from the past .... wasn't it released like 5 years ago..............oh wait..........i am old as crap , no bueno....i was 15 when the ps1 came out, good heavens.

The ps3 has so many memories attached to it for me
22:44 that fan speed is definitely a little too high for the temps, mine sits at 30-35% around those temps and people say that’s too high.
Yours might need a delid and repaste.
Yep I remember buying my ps3 my last day at Target with my discount for $400 it’s still going strong
yeah when i was looking for upgrading my slim ps3 to an ssd i read online that it officially supports 1tb max, but some said you can format a 2tb disk up to 1,5tb and it will work fine, but aint gonna buy a 2tb drive to gamble and get 500 extra gb 😂
Just seeing this takes me back. I wish the PS3 that I used to have didn't get wrecked by a former roommate...
This is what happens me when I have to do anything hardware related. I enjoyed the saga. Glad it worked out.
Yes the days of free online play! @Sony please go back to this
I went to Too Many Games Expo today and got me Madden 09 for PS3 and man oh man
On THIS episode of Ken Breaks Vintage PlayStation Tech!
“Why is my luck so bad with this stuff” I feel it 😂 breaks almost everything he messes with
I have the PS3 slim I still use it sometimes and I do have hen installed to it so I can run backups of my games and run PS2 games on it when it can't lol
Ah the good old PS3 OG
While it had the best backwards compatibility unfortunately it's rigged with issues, man I remember if you buy this way back in Philippines, you would at least have a trip to a place called Greenhills to get it repaired because of overheating
Great video, and whatnot.
I'd like to see you disassemble it and reapply the thermal paste and whatnot 😂
In the next video, you'll need to include a whatnot counter 😂
Judging by the seal looks like it was already replaced. He should download a CFW and see temps
@@imhimmmfr
Did you complete the video yet? 😂
@@bader51500 No😂😂
@@imhimmmfr
Well, did you find the answer now 😂
I wanted the OG PS3 SO BAD. It was SO EXPENSIVE when it first came out even back in 2007
So much luck to you if you are trying to find PS3 controllers with great quality.🤞All the reliable 3rd party PS3 accessories manufacturing companies out of business years ago and Sony refuses to.😶
You really should redo the thermals on that
Na, send it off. Get the Frankenstein mod. Never worry again.
@@SheddysGaming The Cell is still 90nm, isn't there still a chance of YLOD?
I still have mine from back then. It was my bedroom Netflix machine after getting something newer for the living room. Although nowadays I don´t have a TV in my bedroom anymore, as I value sleep hygiene more. I´ll never sell it, my GTA V safegame somehow glitched and all cars, even taxis and police cars are upgraded to the max somehow...
Wait....does Toshiba still make laptops?🤔
I think my PS3 is ready to be replaced. It's like a jet engine taking off, and I have cleaned it out and changed the thermal paste on it at least 3 to 4 times a year for the last 6 or so years. I have nust changed the thermal past last week, and its back to being a jet engine again.
Having every version of the playstation w/CFW is the something I'll keep till I'm dead.
I keep a ps2 and a super slim in my living room. Not ideal but it is affordable.
That is an hilarious sponser for you..😂😂😂 Seeing young people look at 2006 as if its "a long time ago" is also funny!
i picked up my ps 3 slim at Walmart's during black Friday for $150. i bought mine back in 2014 or 2015. i installed a 500gb hdd in it
I bought one this year just to play every generation of PlayStation games. I connected my PS5 to it with a cooler attached.
finally early to denki video
And subscribed. And I’m sorry I didn’t subscribe sooner and thanks for everything Denki 💪🗣️
holy crap i'm early anyway hello i also skipped the sponsor with sponsorblock you're welcome
Great video - love the PS3 content! I want to buy a PS3 console but doing things like jailbreaking scares me! lol
Crazy I bought one today and ran into this video I bought the 60gb version baclwards compatible
Didn’t comprehend how he had Marques Brownlees amount of production value in his videos and had only 180.000 subs…. Then he shouts… Hi Austin… and then I realized … ahaaa this guy was already a pro…buuuuuut also realized this channel has something unique in his approach…every video is more relatable and every project is thought in what would be really useful for the average guy. Really think this channel has a bright future.
Great Video Denki
I just upgraded my old phat ps3 to a 1TB SSD, worked like a charm. Just annoying that it reserves 10% of the storage for the system.
Edit: Also bought a copy of ridge racer 7, it's fun. Native 1080p @ 60fps.
I'm pretty sure it was 40gb 60gb and 80gb, and the 60gb was only one with extra USB slot. I had the 80gb and upgraded to 500gb which was largest you could upgrade to.
EVERYONE NEEDS ONE OF THESE
THE ONLINE COMMUNITY IS STILL ALIVE AND KICKING
THE GAMES ARE SOOOO MICH BETTER THAN CRAPPY PS5
I did the de-lidding and replaced the paste with thermal grizzly kryonaut extreme and even added some new thermal pads, my fan never seems to go above 30% speed. I say that because it went from a jet where you had to talk loudly around it to is the fan even working. It's so quiet. Lol i can play rage for hours without worry now.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOO MLG Game Battles mentioned. I use to play in the higher level scene on Halo 2 and 3 on MLG as part of Team ONI.
Now do a comparison between the ps3, ps4 and a airport runway. Please which one is the loudest!
Bro you look just like Ned from spider man you even sound like him no lie
Yeah I have two 60 gig PS3 and hands down you need to repaste that sucker asap and maybe replace the pads with modern efficient ones. I didn't get heavy into modding but depending on Revision, there's slightly more efficient PSU and fan you can swap out. There's 7 blade and 9 blade fan but IMO the 7 blade is the one to have cause it runs bit more efficient and blades have more surface area to move air. PSU has a version that doesn't get as hot
I would like to see an FPGA powered clone system that can play PS3 games in 4k or 8k resolution in the near future
PS3 only allows up to 1.75TB for an internal drive
Also, OS always reserves 10% space
Makes sense that the space the OS allocates scales!
I'd certainly give it a good service and redo the thermal paste.
Nice vid mate
Dear Ken, putting a minute sponsorship message is not a good start. Put them somewhere in the middle or by the end of the main topic.
True
Dear reno, take the words "sponsor" and "block" then put the second word in front of the first one into google.
@@tim3172 I'm that kind of moron that want to try stuff coming from a sponsor.
Would appreciate a guide to re-thermal pasting and if there are any interesting mods we can do.
yes pleasse take this apart i would love to see iT!
Sony still updates PS3s to update the Blu-ray drive encryption key.
I still have friends that use the PlayStation 3 all the time! ❤
blast from the past .... wasn't it released like 5 years ago..............oh wait..........i am old as crap , no bueno....i was 15 when the ps1 came out, good heavens.
