    I imagine that the metal rod will be stiffer with less drag than all pvc. The ram mount would be the only weak spot. Without trying it though, my thoughts are that it is a great design. 👍

      your right the rod is very stiff, low drag and solid. The ram mount would be, but its far from weak. Its rock solid. I've used this mount over a year. So the reason we did the ram mount is to make it tiltable in scout mode. It something nobody is doing and is unreal in 15' or less. We'll do a video on it this spring.

    Thanks for the idea. I ended up building this and it works great. The only issue I had was that the conduit spins freely inside of the PVC while on the water and active target image is constantly moving. This really sucks in rough water. What did you use secure the poles and keep it from spinning. Do you have a follow up video posted yet? Or will there be one?

    • @hookedntravel
      @hookedntravel  3 роки тому +2

      You can add tape inside it for more friction inside the pole, if it spins too freely for you. I put a little lead wheel weight in the tube to keep the handle more weighted back. But other than that I haven’t had any problems with it constantly moving. The clamp helps with friction as well. Any pole is gonna suck in rough water even to get an active read on it. I haven’t been in anything more than a 3’ chop. A lot of the factory manufactured poles guys aren’t having the best of luck in real rough water either.
      Another idea is to use the bike seat clamp right on the pvc. Do two little cuts in the top and it should add all the friction your looking for.
      I can do a follow up. Right now I am in the middle of my guiding season so I have no time til probably mid July.

      @@hookedntravel drill a hole in the pvc near the top of the pvc and use a nylon or similar knurled nut/bolt or if you have a handle similar to the one on the unit used to bolt it to the bow and adjust the tension, should work.

    The mounts that came with my active Target won't tighten small enough for half inch conduit what did you use or what am I missing

      So the pvc pipe I used I cut it in half and trimmed the sides back a little to use them as spacers for the active target mount

      lol, its pretty easy to make and hard to patent. Guiding takes up most of my time!

    Hi how many inches was the pvc cut to?

    • @hookedntravel
      @hookedntravel  2 роки тому

      That one was about 24". But its all relative to the size you want to use for your size boat. I had it trimmed shorter on the water side of it, so I could retrieve the pole closer in to the boat.
