Physical in person security actually has a lot in common with cybersecurity, with many concepts translating directly over. A firewall being similar to an actual wall or fence, for example.
If anyone is watching this thinking about starting the Google cert, I’m currently working on it and do about 4-5 nights per week. At about 3 hours each session. I’m on track to finish it in under a month. I feel it’s realistic to do 2 of the 8 courses per week. So 4 weeks is a very reasonable amount without rushing. I do all of the activities, portfolio activites, and pause a lot to take notes.
Edit: Finished it in 31 days. The python course was definitely the most time consuming.
well done!
Hey I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. For example, if I work in CS, could I split my 8 hours flexible: 4 in the morning, 4 in the evening (like its possible in other IT sectors), or the essence of the CS job means that while you are working you should follow some fixed timeframe because of the work-process? I landed in my first cybersecurity job thanks to the knowledge of Google security, many of the technical questions that they asked me I was able to answer thanks to the knowledge What I acquired from the program, it should be said that I have 3 years of IT experience, that part also helped me, they also asked me about Azure. I feel you should do these 2 along with the Microsoft version...They will help you with overall domain knowledge of cyber and cloud security. same plan here! im just accumulating a bunch of cyber sec certificate since i got free time at work ahahah.

@@synos0202, Ikr? hah
I mean, one could go for Certifications, yes, but I feel like I can really grasp the fundamentals after I having taken these Courses(Google's Specialisation shows me this), and after that I'll apply for a Junior Role (or even just an Internship) so that I can get some more professional experience in the field and also get my foot on the door.
Something that's gonna play a major role is finding out which role excites you the most, so that you, while you wait for those interview invites, can get deeper into some of the tools used for that particular job the most - like, is it Network Analysis? Is it Application Security? Is it Threat Hunting? And so on. All of them are Cybersecurity, yes, but each of the areas somehow gives it particular taste. That is really cool.
All the best, man. See you around.
I have completed the IBM one, one bad thing about it is that the IBM course's audio quality is extremely bad, and very hard to keep your focus on it. Otherwise, it is a great course.
yeah I noticed, I used the subtitles for that
I should be finishing the Google Cert next week (about a month and a half). It has been a good experience but I found the Python section/labs to be a bit disappointing. I found the projects meant for your portfolio in the course so far lack luster. I will definitely be building up my Gitup after I'm done. The course gives just a introduction into the key concepts, need to go find additional courses to keep building on that knowledge. I don't feel like I'd be 100% proficient in a cyber security role with just the Google Cert but I have a much better understanding of what I need to learn and what's worth spending my time on.
I agree, it’s meant to introduce you to the field :) I recommend you do the projects in my projects video and move on to harder stuff asap

Hello Unix, I’ve been wanting to ask this question, what do you think are the opportunities for grc analyst to work fully remote, as I’m looking to specialize in this field and in my country the pay is very low for IT professionals hence I’m looking to hunt for remote jobs when it’s time.
it depends on the company not the role. some allow it some dont

Hi, I'm 18 years old and I'm in the process of choosing uni. I heard people say that if I want to work in cybersecurity, I should study computer science then do certificates. Would you recommend doing a bachelor of computer science or a bachelor of cybersecurity? Do you think the bachelor of cybersecurity at Swinburne is enough to get me ready for the job or I need to do certificates along the way? I love your channel btw
if you wanna work in cyber security then definitely do cyber security degree NOT computer science , watch this:
ua-cam.com/video/ys-_xQHaYAc/v-deo.html
and yes Swinburne has an excellent cyber security program
I got a bachelor in cybersecurity from a high ranked university. If I could have gone back and change this, I would’ve done computer science and cyber certs
Thanks for this comparison, I was searching for sth like this and did not find anything before.
This week I've started the IBM IT Fundamentals for Cybersecurity Specialization, but already stopped it. So bad quality of the audios, the slides seem a bit amateur too and even on the weekly quizzes, you have only one attempt every 8 hours and you cannot see what you have answered before because they only show Correct or Incorrect, it's just ridiculous! How am I supposed to learn with my mistakes if I cannot seem them? Am I supposed to learn everything by heart, like some teachers expected at school?
@@jordansam Perhaps the IBM Professional Certificate (the one he reviewed) is better than the one I was taking.
You can skip some of those audios and read the transcript, its faster that way. No u dont need to memorise things
Sir thanks for helping us, Is the certificates have an expire like is it for one or two years then I do the certificate again?
I dont think so, check with coursera
Hi, in a previous video you recommended to skip Security+ and go straight to BTL1. At 8:13 you said to do the security+ after the google cybersecurity certificate. I'm a little confused now and I was hoping you can provide some clarification please? Thanks UnixGuy, your videos are very helpful.
hey mate,
I said in a previous video that I *personally* would skip security+ and jump straight into doing something more practical right away. I also said you can do it if you want to!
There is no *one set path*, there are more than one way to approach the topic. You’ll find that most beginner level certifications teach similar topics, so you have the option of either doing sec+ or skipping it, as long as you don’t spend an enormous amount of time being stuck at beginner level certs :)
@@UnixGuy thank you for this advice! I apologize for any misunderstanding. I started the google certificate last week and I’m almost 25% done. I just wanted to make sure I was making the right decision in beginning BTL1 after I finished my google certification. Thank you again for the clarification :)
Cheers!
you most definitely are! dont apologise, that’s what im here for! good luck, enjoy the journey :)
Hi, I am currently completing the google cert then I plan to finish the security+. Could you please advise me as to what would be the best course of action after this?
Should I do blue team level 1 for more hands on experience? Or should I focus on projects to build up my portfolio? I felt like the the Splunk, Chronicle and Linux hands on lab was not extensive enough for me to be comfortable in a job setting.
I am currently in University doing MIS with a year left to go whilst crashing summer courses. My goal is to obtain a soc analyst role just before graduation. Im open to hearing any feedback. Have a nice day.
watch my ‘projects’ video, do them then do the BLT1

Great review as always. Thanks for the guidance. Do you have any opinion on Cisco's Networking Academy? Especially Skills for All courses which also includes a series of courses that they call Cybersecurity Analyst Pathway. In their courses they include Cisco Packet Tracer which their own software lab tool for creating virtual networks, initial config, troubleshooting etc. Skills for All courses are free by the way.
it’s focused on a network security, which is a slightly different area
The UNIX Guy is probably confusing it with the CCNA Security. The Cisco Networking Academy is great, and it does offer the CCST Cybersecurity course for free. Depending on where you're at, it is quite basic. I'd recommend the CyberOps Associate (Chris Greer did a video on it). Later on, the CyberOps Professional track let's you specialise either in threat hunting or forensics, which is quite cool. But it's definitely not about network security, and definitely not Cisco vendor locked in (95% of tools you learn are open source).
@@rakeshcristobal8320 that’s fair, but a cisco network packet tracer isn’t really something that a cyber analyst uses often, it’s mainly what a firewall engineer would use. I’m aware that cisco is trying to provide in this area but it was never their forte and they’re not really what we think we of when we think of cyber training. I admit I haven’t gone through the course in detail so it could be useful, I just would choose to do different stuff :)
@alptekinserdenak2263 I'd take the Cisco CyberOps Associate exam (CBROPS 200-201) first. It makes a good use of Wireshark and Security Onion labs (like Security+ but a lot more hands on). I'd then progress to the Cisco CyberOps Professional exam, taking the CBFIR forensics and malware analysis concentration exam. It makes use of YARA and other malware analysis tools.
I wanna ask you please if I'm a slow learner ( due to an accident I had when I was little) is cybersecurity would be good for me or I should be a fast learner ? ( for example I think if I took the course I'll definitely need at least one year to finish it .
hey mate, sorry to hear about the accident. Unfortunately I can’t answer this for you, you’ll need the opinion of a medical professional, this is beyond my scope of knowledge

I already have…watch my videos…
I already have CISSP and OSCE. Should I consider these certs from Google and IBM too ? My current role is DFIR, with a focus on Forensics and Thread Intellgence. Thanks
hey mate, both the google and IBM certs are beginners level certificates so they are not targetted at your level, but I think you already know that.
For DFIR, if you watch this video, towards the end I have recommendations for DFIR if you’re interested:

Ok, Thank you for the advice. I will look for that video.
BTW, I was looking to go to Red Team / Pentest role at sometime but there is less demand than offer while DFIR is quite the opposite. On Linkedin, its 1 red team role for 10 DFIR roles. Thats crazy. With all the criminals and cyberattacks, I assume there are bigger needs for "firefighters". From you experience, whats going on? Is DFIR the next hot role to pursue, as RedTeam/ Pentest is so overcrowded right now.
@@PurpleTeamer I believe there is a lot more need for defensive work (blue team variety, soc analysts, etc) than pentesters. You need to have one pentest periodically but you need an army of analysts 24/7 if that makes sense! you can always learn pentesting if thats what u like, it will make you a better cyber professional overall :)
@@UnixGuy
I was not expecting it, but I do actually enjoy IR, Forensics, threat intelligence as there is always something to find, like looking for a hidden treasure, and I feel that my work is helping people to solve an issue during their difficult time.
Makes no mistake, Red Team sounds much cool on the paper but TBH, I have to try it to make sure I really enjoy it...
I do from time to time CTF and HTB, but to be honest, it was fun when preparing the OSCP and OSCE, but lately, I m not exited anymore when I poped a box on HTB. I mean, well, I got a flag but this has not real purpose, I dont have much feeling of accomplishment.
Maybe I'm getting too old for that kind of stuff, I have already 20 years of experience in IT and half of that in cybersecurity....At the end DFIR is maybe better match than pentesting for and old man like me ?
I get much more excitement catching the bad guys than playing the bad guys. So I considered doing Bug Bounty on the side whenever I want to do "red team" stuff...
Ultimately, I may consider an auditing or consulting role, so I can continue to work in cybersecurity after I retire.
Im doing the course now.
Sometimes its hard to take in all the information. I guess its normall, since i am new to this field
enjoy it
Hi, I have a question. Do companies consider the applicants age when applying for cybersecurity jobs? I’m 47 and want to make a career change, but I’m not sure if there are any older people pivoting into the cybersecurity field.
How bad do you want it? You can do it! I’m a 50 yr old chef/GM career changer but dig in deep and study hard and fast . What I thought was the end was the beginning. If I have some programming experience, should I mention it in my cv when I’m applying to cybersecurity jobs?
yes 100% and look into AppSec too: ua-cam.com/video/-oGxe4CW_Z8/v-deo.html
Hi, First of all thank you for the amazing content. What about the juniper networks certification ? I mean they are giving the training for free and also giving vouchers (certificate exam discounts 75 percent) if you complete their lab assessments. Should learning it will be helpful in the process of cyber security field ?
do them if u want to
Hi, Unixguy. I am very confused on which cert to pursue. Is sec+ and Google CyberSecurity certificate enough to land the first Analyst Job?
the idea is to keep learning until you get a job! there is no ‘get these two basic certs and you’re guaranteed a job’.
The certs you mentioned are a good start, they can lead to a job but pleaae continue learning beyond the extreme basics/

Hey
You mentioned before in one of your videos that IBM takes 2 hours to finish is this IBM courses different?
No, the two hours was definitly not about this course, it was about a small practical project :)
@@UnixGuy got it thank you 🙏
Some youtubers said that this course is not worth it, well i'm enrolled in this course taking it. I just want your opinion why this feedback. Also he said his Review about this course wasn't sponsored and other content creators that speaks well about this course , are sponsored.
No idea why someone says that, Probably because he doesn’t know what he’s talking about
Sir How is it to do all 3 Google, IBM and Microsoft cybersecurity certifications or do you think its just waste of time?
Because i think after finishing Google cybersec cert within 1 or 2 months we can finish both cert within few weeks and can gain more practice
its not a waste of time, you can do them all :)
guys you have to choose google course. IBM recorded like ages ago and its really hard to focus on these videos. Google has better quality and you feel like you are learning new things. in ibm its like you are feeling old tech. I made both of them and definetly recommend google
thanks for sharing your perspective
Sir, make a video on the career of a Security Architect.
sure
What's your opinion on doing certificates from mcsi Mosse cybersecurity certificate?
Never heard of them! best to stick to the ones that are known/tested
I'm currently in week 3 of IBm cybersecurity course should I complete it and the Google one as well? Both of them or should I give preference to one
as explained in the video, you dont need both, you can jump to my video where I talk about projects and do them
Sir you videos are many can you please drop a direct link to the video?
@UnixGuy Please Review the Simplilearn Advance executive cyber Security Program,
I generally don’t recommend bootcamps
@@UnixGuy Ok, Then as a beginner which certificate or course is better for an entry-level cyber security job along with the best income in India
@@Suhasjk07 watch my videos and you will know 🤦🏻♂️
Is ageism a factor in cyber security do high level positions such as ciso retire forced to retire after 45
not really most cisos I know are well into their 50s
Do i get access to the lab for the Google Cybersecurity, if I audit the course in Coursera?
I’m auditing the course and currently on the third week of the first course.
good question, im not sure! audit mode is free, how about you try and report back :)
@@UnixGuy as a self proclaimed responsible guy, I will inform you right here😅
Would it be worth it to just triple down by taking say the Google Cert, then breezing through the IBM & MS Certs and snagging all 3 Certs in just a few months?
yes
Would you recommend the Certificate IV in Cyber Security from TAFE NSW?
yes its good
@@UnixGuy alright, thanks for that!
Google cybersecurity vs the new Cisco CCST cybersecurity. Which one do you think is more valuable? I'm really trying to debate between the two.
google
@@UnixGuy cool, is it because Google offers more hands-on?
@@jamesevans6406 yes and the content is more relevant
@@UnixGuy gotcha, thanks!
Do you think the google course is good study material for the Sec+?
good but not enough, you’ll need practice tests
Hello, can you please review this new course from coursera and compare it to the google cyber cert, it just came out a few days ago. Thanks /microsoft cybersecurity analyst professional certificate
lol yes, stay tuned…
@@UnixGuy thanks my friend, love your videos thank you
I work as soc analyst and use siem qradar, soar resilient, xforce and mandiant. should i take ibm certification?
it depends on how much experience you have, you might be able to finish it quickly :)
